Fatah representative in Gaza falsely accuses Israel of paying salaries to Israeli terrorists, while criticizing Israel’s demand that PA stop salaries to Palestinian terrorists

Official PA TV program I Call You, hosting Head of the Documentation Department of the PLO Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs Abd Al-Nasser Farwaneh and Spokesman of the Fatah Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs in Gaza Nashat Al-Wahidi

Spokesman of the Fatah Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs in Gaza Nashat Al-Wahidi: “They demand to stop the prisoners’ allowances (mukhassasat), the prisoners’ salaries (rawatib), the salaries or allowances of the Palestinian Martyrs’ (Shahids’) families, while they pay a monthly salary to Ami Popper who killed 7 Palestinian workers (sic., Popper is being allowed to work through a prisoner rehabilitation program; he is not paid by Israel for having murdered 7 Palestinians –Ed.) - a monthly salary that reaches his home, like it reaches the rest of the Israeli murderers (sic., there are only 200 prisoners on the rehabilitation work program, and they are not paid by Israel –Ed.), including the one that murdered [former Israeli Prime Minister] Yitzhak Rabin in 1995 (sic., Rabin’s assassin Yigal Amir is not being allowed to work -Ed.). This is the true face of the Israeli occupation.”

Ami Popper – an Israeli who shot and murdered 7 Palestinian workers from Gaza and wounded 11 others at a bus stop in Rishon LeZion on May 20, 1990. Popper was given 7 life sentences and an additional 20 years, but his sentence was commuted to 40 years by Israeli President Ezer Weizman in 1999.
Contrary to Palestinian claims, the Israeli government does not pay Popper or any other Israeli prisoner. Popper has received legal support from the legal aid organization Honenu; previously his family was among those that received financial support from Honenu before the organization abandoned the practice. Honenu has non-profit status meaning donations are tax deductible, but it does not receive state funding.
