The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.” In 1922, the League of Nations adopted this and made the British Mandate “responsible for putting into effect the declaration,” which led to the UN vote in 1947 and the establishment of the State of Israel.

You suffered for years as you went between the occupier’s prisons.
Um Samer Al-Mahroum is under the wings of Allah (i.e., she passed away), the mother of prisoner Samer Al-Mahroum from Jenin who has served 26 years of imprisonment.”

Samer Al-Mahroum – Palestinian terrorist member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) who, together with terrorists Omar Al-Naif and Hamza Al-Naif, stabbed and murdered Israeli civilian Eliyahu Amadi in the Old City of Jerusalem on Nov. 15, 1986. Al-Mahroum was sentenced to a life sentence; he was released in 2011 in the Shalit prisoner exchange deal brokered between the Israeli government and Hamas, but was later rearrested and had his sentence reinstated for violating the conditions of his release.

      "The [Palestine] Olympic Committee yesterday [Oct. 11, 2017] hosted a press conference in order to announce the opening of the Pink Day Competition, in the presence of District Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh Dr. Laila Ghannam… Dr. Ghannam said that Palestinian women - who are struggling with the greatest cancer, which is the occupation - can overcome this disease, and called on women to conduct early examinations in order to reduce the spread of the disease [i.e., breast cancer] among our women, who constitute half of society."

Ghannam emphasized that our holidays will not be complete unless all of our male and female prisoners are released from the occupation’s prisons so they can enjoy freedom together with their relatives and loved ones. [PA] President [Mahmoud] Abbas' advisor on Foreign Affairs and International Relations Nabil Shaath, District Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh Laila Ghannam, and [PA] Minister of Justice Ali Abu Diyak were present at the mass… District Governor Ghannam honored Father Shoumali on behalf of the district and its institutions. She noted that ‘The integration of all residents of the district brings everyone pride,’ and said: ‘Jesus is a Palestinian, and the occupier’s bullets do not differentiate between one Palestinian and another. O Allah, protect Jerusalem, its [Arab] residents, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the plot of Your enemies, the enemies of the religion. O Allah, be with [the residents of Jerusalem], strengthen them, and give them victory over their enemies. PA District Governor glorifies martyrdom: "Our child Martyrs... are birds in Paradise”

       "Ramallah and El-Bireh District Governor Dr. Laila Ghannam expressed her pride over our generations that are loyal to the path, and wished success to all of the high school graduates... District Governor Ghannam visited the family of Martyr Abu Saleh today and noted that their son achieved the highest Martyrdom (i.e., word play, the Arabic word Shahada also means certificate as in matriculation certificate), and that the hearts of all the members of our people are turned towards their family and all of the families of the Martyrs... District Governor Ghannam gave [the family] a statuette of a bird and emphasized that our child Martyrs, Allah willing, are birds in Paradise. Parallel to this, last night the Martyr's mother dreamed of a bird that appeared on the horizon and told her about the results of her son, who was meant to be among those that excelled in the high school matriculation exams this year."

Abu Diyak said in a speech before the sit-in strikers on behalf of the prime minister and the government: 'I salute our brave prisoners behind the fences of the Israeli prisons who are waging the [hunger] strike of freedom and dignity, the Campaign of the Empty Stomachs, in order to stop the Israeli violations against them, and for their human dignity and just rights that are anchored in international conventions and agreements. District Governor of Ramallah glorifies mother of imprisoned terrorists

     “Um Nasser Abu Hmeid continues her unlimited hunger strike on this the 16th day in a row as a sign of solidarity with the prisoners who are [hunger] striking in the occupation’s prisons… Several doctors, led by Director of the Health Directorate of Ramallah and El-Bireh Dr. Wael Al-Sheikh, carried out the necessary exams of Um Nasser - who is known as the Khansa of Palestine – in the presence of District Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh Dr. Laila Ghannam.
Ghannam emphasized that ‘the mothers of the prisoners and the Martyrs (Shahids) are the mothers of all of us and constitute a priority for everyone that belongs [to the Palestinian nation],’ and wished for all of our prisoners that they be victorious and be released soon. She noted that monitoring the health of Um Nasser and preventing her deterioration, particularly in light of the diseases she suffers from, is the responsibility of everyone. She thanked the Health Directorate for the perfect service they provide to the members of our people.
Ghannam said that the Palestinian mother, who suffers doubly due to this cruel occupation, is deserving of us investing everything dear to us for her, and noted that it does not matter how much we provide to the families of our prisoners, it is still not enough.”

     "The [PA-funded] Prisoners' Club and the [PLO] Commission of Prisoners and Released Prisoners' Affairs yesterday, on occasion of Mother's Day and under the auspices of the Ramallah and El-Bireh District and the Fatah branch, honored a number of the mothers of prisoners in the occupation's prisons, who have been sentenced to many years and life sentences.
Ramallah and El-Bireh District Governor Laila Ghannam said during the tribute held in Ramallah: 'We bow before the sacrifice of the prisoners, their mothers, and their families.' She noted that there are 19 mothers who are at this moment within the occupation's prisons. She also emphasized that all of the top officials and members of our people must always stand beside the prisoners' families and the mothers, and not only at special events, as they suffer much and need someone to ease their [suffering over] the absence of their sons.
Ghannam conveyed the greetings of [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas and emphasized that the prisoners' cause is on the Palestinian leadership's list of priorities, as there will be no freedom or independence without the release of all of the prisoners…
Director of the [PLO] Commission of Prisoners and Released Prisoners' Affairs Issa Karake praised the Palestinian woman who with her steely sacrifice has demonstrated all of the significance of partnership in the struggle and standing against the occupation’s barbarity... He expressed his appreciation for the female prisoners..."

Greetings to our women in the diaspora, in our refugee camps, [where] our women and all of the Palestinians [in them] have suffered, in hopes, Allah willing, for the return and to meet [them] soon. Lina Al-Jarbouni - An Israeli Arab woman serving a sentence of 17 years, convicted March 9, 2004 of maintaining contact with and helping Islamic Jihad terrorists, of conspiring to commit terrorist attacks and of aiding an enemy during war.

The participants emphasized that they will continue to defend the rights of our Martyrs (Shahids) and the commemoration of the memory of them so that it does not disappear, which the leadership led by [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas is defending in light of their struggle and sacrifice for liberation and independence.”
 
District Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh Laila Ghannam: “[May there be] mercy on all of our Martyrs, and prime among them our eternal Martyr Yasser Arafat. Our sons and daughters have sacrificed their blood so that we will live in freedom, even in this situation [when] this terrorist extremist [Israeli] government falsifies history and presents our fighters as if they were murderers and terrorists. However, history will not forget. Everyone will read [history] as we have read [it]: Even in our resistance we have principles, and we have compassion if that can be said, and principles according to which we act.”
