How long the separation was [due to] the jailer, and how you dreamed of embracing him in peace and security, and God’s decree arrived, and he left the grip of the jailer so that you will accompany him as a groom to Paradise (i.e., Martyr's funeral is considered wedding to the 72 Virgins in Paradise in Islam).”

Yasser Dhiab Hamdouni was serving a life sentence for participating in the murder of Israeli citizen Avner Maimon in the Palestinian town of Ya'abad in the West Bank (June, 12, 2003). Hamdouni, a member of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades (Fatah’s military wing), died on Sept. 25, 2016, after collapsing while exercising in the Israeli Rimon Prison yard.

     “District Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh Dr. Laila Ghannam yesterday [Sept. 3, 2016], during a reception for female Arab advisors for advancing the status of women and empowering them in the villages and local councils in the Palestinian Interior (i.e., PA term for Israel), emphasized the unity of the blood and the cause, and also emphasized that the fences and checkpoints will not separate the souls of the one people and their national affiliation.
Ghannam clarified during the meeting that her goal was to have the female Palestinian activists of the Interior get to know the district governor and benefit from her experience, because we have full awareness and we understand the suffering of our sisters in the occupied Interior due to the racist acts being carried out against them.”

Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh District] Dr. Ghannam said that the death of Ahmad Jabarah ‘Abu Sukkar’ was a loss for everyone who protects human rights and every freedom fighter. She noted that the deceased fighter left behind a legendary history… [Chairman of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club Qadura] Fares added in his speech: ‘This man was not a regular man, but rather an epic of a struggle that will be written by the history of the Palestinian victory in large letters due to the greatness of our resolute prisoners… [Director of PLO Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs] Issa Karake emphasized in his speech that this monument is intended to implant in the minds of our sons and daughters that we are continuing to be loyal to the path of the Martyrs… Karake added: ‘Ahmad Abu Sukkar is a real man, a fighter, and a man who left his impression on everyone and who was a school for giving, resolve, and courage. Ahmad Jabarah Abu Sukkar (“Abu Sukkar”) - planned a bombing attack in 1975 in which a refrigerator filled with explosives was detonated in Jerusalem. 15 people were killed and over 60 people were wounded. He was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years, but was released from prison after 28 years as part of a goodwill gesture from Israel to the PA in 2003. He was a member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council and an advisor to Arafat on prisoners' affairs. He died of a heart attack in 2013 in the PA.

Ghannam [said she] looked forward to the release of all the prisoners, and noted that our prisoners are a symbol of the resolve and present a challenge [to the occupation].”

Abd Al-Fattah Doleh – Member of the Tanzim (Fatah terror faction). He served a 12-year sentence for his participation in the kidnapping and murder of 16-year-old Ofir Rahum on Jan. 17, 2001, and was released on June 30, 2016. Amna Muna met Rahum in an Internet chat room and engaged him in an online romance that culminated in his agreeing to meet her. She drove him to Ramallah, where they were met by Doleh and another accomplice, Hassan Alkadi, who shot Rahum to death.

     “Ramallah and El-Bireh District Governor Laila Ghannam emphasized that our Martyrs (Shahids) and prisoners are the conscience of the Palestinian people and its symbols, who have paid a heavy price on the path to obtaining our freedom and realizing the aspirations of our people. She added that in their presence there is no sound that overpowers the sound of their struggle, the patience of their families, and their honor- inspiring path, which has perfumed the land of the homeland with the purest blood.
Ghannam conveyed the blessings of His Honor president Mahmoud Abbas to all the residents of Silwad. She emphasized that His Honor shows unprecedented interest in the particulars of his people’s life, and makes the prisoners’ issue his [top] priority.
Ghannam said this yesterday [May 3, 2016] during a visit to the family of released prisoner Thaer Hammad (sic., Thaer Hammad is still in prison. It was his father who was released.) She emphasized that Thaer is a role model for every young Palestinian with the love of Palestine flowing through his blood, and she expressed a hope to visit the family again, after Thaer is released from the depths of prison.
Ghannam visited the two daughters of Martyr Mahdiyya Hammad, who was killed in cold blood by the occupation forces…
She inquired about their situation in school, and emphasized that their excelling constitutes a message of determination and defiance of this world, which keeps silent. Likewise, she honored the Martyr’s family and husband during her visit to their home.
Ghannam honored a number of Martyrs and prisoners’ families while visiting their homes. The visit included the homes of the Martyrs Abed Hammad and Anas Hammad.”

     “The Political and National Orientation Authority marked the 40th anniversary of the eternal Land Day yesterday [March 29, 2016] in a ceremony it held in Ramallah.
Present at the ceremony were District Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh Laila Ghannam, as representative of [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas, Official Spokesman of the PA Security Forces Adnan Al-Damiri, and the head of the Committee of Arab Monitoring in the 1948 Territories (i.e., Israel), Muhammad Barakeh.
Ghannam said in a speech she gave on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas: ‘The occupation insists on carrying out many massacres against our people, and there is a decision to kill any Palestinian based on suspicion alone, while the world maintains its silence. Therefore, we must act to expose the occupation’s crimes.’ …
Barakeh said: ‘All the acts of struggle being carried out by our people are only intended to achieve freedom and honor and the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.’ … Likewise, he noted that the occupation forces are destroying villages in the 1948 territories (i.e., Israel) in order to expel their residents and establish settlement blocs.”

Land Day – an annual commemoration of the general strike and demonstrations organized by Israeli Arab residents of the Galilee on March 30, 1976 to protest the Israeli government's decision to expropriate land in the Galilee for security and settlement purposes, which it later implemented. During the protests, demonstrators burnt tires, blocked roads, and threw rocks and firebombs. Six demonstrators were shot and killed by the Israeli army and police. Israeli Arabs and Palestinians consider Land Day a national day.
