PA official sends greetings to “heroic” imprisoned terrorists at ceremony
Official PA TV Live broadcast a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights. The ceremony was attended by District Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh Laila Ghannam, [former] PA Minister of Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Karake, PA Deputy Minister of Prisoners’ Affairs Ziad Abu Ein and Chairman of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club Qadura Fares.
PA Minister of Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Karake: “On behalf of this institute that we [all] know, this beacon…I send greetings to all our male and female prisoners in the occupation prisons. I send greetings to our brothers on [hunger] strike, the heroes standing firm… Greetings, on behalf of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Al-Dameer Association, to Samer Al-Issawi and Ayman Sharawna, to the fighter prisoner Maher Younes, and to all our heroic prisoners. On this occasion and on this anniversary we cannot avoid sending greetings to our brother, the great commander Ahmad Sa’adat, to our brother, the heroic fighter and commander Marwan Barghouti, to all the young leaders and delegates, and to the female prisoners, foremost among them the veteran prisoner Lina Al-Jarbouni.”
Samer Al-Issawi - belonged to the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine DFLP. Was serving a sentence of 26 years in prison for attempted murder by manufacturing and distributing explosives and shooting at civilian vehicles in 2002, but was released in October 2011 as part of the Shalit prisoner exchange deal brokered between the Israeli government and Hamas. In that deal, Israel released 1,027 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who had been held hostage by Hamas for more than 5 years. Al-Issawi was re-arrested in 2012 for violating the conditions of his release. In protest he began a hunger strike. He was released again in December 2013.
Ahmad Sa’adat - serving a 30-year sentence for heading the PFLP terror organization. A song at a PFLP event also praised him for planning the assassination of Israeli Minister of Tourism Rehavam Ze'evi in 2001, but he has not been tried for this crime.
Marwan Barghouti - serving five life sentences for orchestrating terror attacks against Israeli civilians. When arrested in 2002, he headed the Tanzim (Fatah terror faction). After he was convicted and imprisoned, he was re-elected member of the Palestinian Authority parliament.
Lina Al-Jarbouni - An Israeli Arab woman serving a sentence of 17 years, convicted March 9, 2004 of maintaining contact with and helping Islamic Jihad terrorists, of conspiring to commit terrorist attacks and of aiding an enemy during war.
