Fatah official defends and praises convicted terrorist Marwan Barghouti

“Fatah Movement Central Committee member Tawfiq Tirawi said today (Tuesday) [Dec. 6, 2016] that prisoner Marwan Barghouti (i.e., terrorist prisoner serving 5 life sentences) is a national leader who was kidnapped by the occupation government, and not a terror leader.
As part of his response to the occupation state’s [Israeli] Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Tirawi added: ‘We are proud of Marwan Barghouti as a leader and as a tenacious fighter… and Netanyahu’s statements regarding leader Marwan Barghouti are considered blatant interference in Fatah affairs…’
It should be noted that occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: ‘Marwan Barghouti has been elected to the first place on the list of Fatah Central Committee members. This is a terror leader who encouraged terror attacks in which dozens of Israelis were killed and wounded. His election constitutes a radicalization of Fatah’s culture of incitement, as Fatah is not satisfied with incitement in the schools and naming streets and squares after Martyrs (Shahids). Now it is placing terrorists at the head of the elected list. Fatah is radicalizing its hatred of Israel and distancing peace (for Netanyahu’s actual statement see note below –Ed.).’”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s actual statement on Dec. 5, 2016, on terrorist prisoner Marwan Barghouti’s election to the Fatah Central Committee the day before is as follows:
“Yesterday [Dec. 4, 2016] the [Seventh] Fatah Conference elected Marwan Barghouti to the first place on the Fatah Movement Central Committee. This is the leader of a terrorist organization who encouraged and led terror attacks in which dozens of innocent Israeli citizens were killed and wounded. Barghouti was convicted of his crimes in an Israeli court and sentenced to 5 life sentences. In electing Barghouti, Fatah is radicalizing the culture of incitement and terror, and giving approval to a convicted terrorist. It is no longer satisfied with incitement in schools and naming streets and squares after murderers. Now it is also placing them at the head. In this way Fatah is radicalizing the culture of hatred and distancing peace.”
Marwan Barghouti - serving 5 life sentences for orchestrating three shooting attacks that killed 5 people: one in Jerusalem (June 12, 2001, 1 killed), another in Givat Zeev near Jerusalem (Jan. 15, 2002, 1 killed), and one in Tel Aviv (March 5, 2002, 3 killed). When arrested in 2002, he headed the Tanzim (Fatah terror faction). After he was convicted and imprisoned, he was re-elected member of the Palestinian Authority parliament. On Dec. 4, 2016, he was elected to Fatah’s Central Committee.
