“Secretary-General of the [PA] Presidential Office Tayeb Abd Al-Rahim said that British Prime Minister Theresa May’s statements (see note below –Ed.) regarding how Britain will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) indicates ignorance of the historical facts, political insolence, and an insistence on supporting this crime that was committed against our Palestinian people. In a press statement, Abd Al-Rahim added that the British government’s insistence on celebrating the 100th anniversary of the ominous promise also constitutes support for the racist policy of oppression that the occupation is implementing, and unequivocally proves that Britain supports the continuation of the tensions in the Middle East region by destroying the two-state solution and [the possibility of] reaching a solution that will ensure that our people will receive a state in the 1967 borders, and establish an independent state whose capital is East Jerusalem. He added: ‘This pride in the establishment of the racist entity on our land and on the ruins of the Palestinian people, which the British prime minister spoke about, is the definition of disgrace.’”

The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.” In 1922, the League of Nations adopted this and made the British Mandate “responsible for putting into effect the declaration,” which led to the UN vote in 1947 and the establishment of the State of Israel.
