PLO official: Israeli policies are responsible for regional terror

Headline: “Erekat: There is no Middle East without the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital”

“Secretary-General of the PLO [Executive Committee and Fatah Central Committee member] Saeb Erekat… said in a radio interview: ‘World leaders have unanimously agreed that there will not be a new map of the region without an independent Palestinian state in the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.’ He added: ‘Countries of the world that came to the international summit in Paris [June 2016] fought in Syria and Iraq to end the terror.’ Likewise, he emphasized that victory against terror in the region will begin with the drying up of the swamp of the Israeli occupation, which has been weighing down on the chests of the Palestinian people for the last 49 years.’”

The French Initiative – A peace initiative proposed by the French PM Hollande’s government in 2015 aimed at reviving peace negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians. A one-day summit was held in Paris on June 3, 2016, attended by foreign ministers of the US, EU countries, and several Arab countries, for the purpose of advancing the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. At the end of the summit, participants issued a joint communique supporting a negotiated two-state solution and proposing an international conference before the end of the year. Israelis and Palestinians did not participate in this first summit, the purpose of which was to establish a framework for renewed negotiations between the two.
