PA TV broadcast a ceremony in Bethlehem marking the 48th anniversary of the founding of Fatah. In the audience were senior PA and Fatah leaders: PLO Executive Committee member and Fatah Central Committee member Saeb Erekat, Fatah Central Committee member Jamal Muhaisen, Minister of Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Karake, Governor of Bethlehem Abd Al-Fattah Hamael, Governor of Hebron Kamel Hamid.
Saeb Erekat, member of the Fatah Central Committee:

“Now, let us first begin by recalling those whom we planted as seeds to grow and provide shade for us in all seasons, the brave-hearted Martyrs (Shahids). Chief among Martyrs, our commander and mentor, eternal Martyr commander, the creator of our glory, honor, and power, Yasser Arafat. Colleagues: Commander Marwan Al-Barghouti, Commander Ahmad Sa’adat, Commander Mahmoud Al-Ramahi, elder prisoner Karim Younes, and the thousands of our sons and daughters in prison and our brave wounded.
It does not make sense that at the end of the year 2012 we should be celebrating [Fatah’s 48th anniversary] here, near the birthplace and site of the suffering of Jesus, Palestine’s first Martyr (Shahid), and say to him that the children of Palestine are still being murdered by the occupation (i.e., Israel) in the Gaza Strip, and murdered in the Al-Yarmouk refugee camp (Many people , including Palestinians, were killed in Al-Yarmouk during the Syrian civil war, 2012/2013 – Ed.), and murdered in Iraq.”

Israel is the real threat to Middle East stability, not Iran or the lack of democracy
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 2, 2011
Headline: “Erekat: The actions of the Israeli government are the true danger threatening the security and stability of the region”
“Saeb Erekat, member of the Fatah Central Committee and head of the Palestinian negotiating team, condemned the Israeli government’s construction of 24 settlement [housing] units on the Mount of Olives in East Jerusalem…
This was during meetings which Erekat held separately with the representative of the European Union in Palestine, Christian Berger; with a parliamentary delegation from Chile; with the deputy to the American Consul General; and with the Japanese ambassador, Takeuchi.
Erekat emphasized that the response to the Israeli government must come from the meeting of the Quartet which is scheduled for the 5th of the month in Munich, through recognition of the Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the borders of June 4, 1967…
Erekat emphasized that the actions of the Israeli government… have led to the ruin of the peace process, and are now pushing the region into the furnace of violence, anarchy, extremism and bloodshed. He noted that the true danger to the region, to its security and stability, is the continuation of the Israeli occupation and continued Israeli activity, not the absence of democracy or Iran. Therefore, anyone seeking security and stability in the region must first of all dry up the swamp of Israeli occupation.”
PA chief negotiator calls for US and other countries to recognize Palestinian state
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Dec. 9, 2010
“Head of the PLO negotiations department, Saeb Erekat… in an exclusive statement to WAFA, while he accompanied President Mahmoud Abbas to Egypt, said: ‘We informed the American administration that it would not obtain a cessation of settlement from Netanyahu, and therefore the Israeli government caused the failure of the American efforts [in the peace talks]. We had hoped that Washington would hold Israel responsible for what is happening…
We hope that the American administration will recognize the Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, as a response to the Israeli dictates in everything concerning the settlements and the other unilateral steps…
Right now is not the time for [a peace] process or for talk about proximity talks. What is required right now is decisions, and if the US wishes to maintain the two-state option, it must recognize the Palestinian state on the 1967 borders…
