Fatah spokesman: Fatah leads “popular resistance” in “the Jerusalem uprising” (i.e., terror wave) and 70% of “Martyrs” in terror wave are Fatah members

Headline: “Assaf: 70% of the Jerusalem Uprising Martyrs are Fatah members”
“On the 51st anniversary of the Fatah Launch (Intilaqa), the outbreak of the modern Palestinian revolution, and three months after the outbreak of the Jerusalem uprising, the Fatah movement emphasized that it will continue the struggle with uncompromising determination and willpower, until the Palestinian people obtains its goals of freedom and independence. Fatah spokesman Ahmad Assaf stated that the movement’s achievements in the struggle and political achievements prove this determination and fortitude. He clarified that Fatah’s role and its sacrifices in the popular uprising are additional proof of the firmly established patriotic character of the movement, and the fact that its compass needle always points toward the Israeli occupation and the need to get rid of it. Assaf noted that 84 of the 120 Martyrs (Shahids) from the West Bank’s districts, in other words 70%, are Fatah members, along with additional Martyrs from the Gaza Strip, and thousands of injured heroes, for whom we wish a speedy recovery… Assaf stated that when the Fatah movement talks about the sacrifices of its fighters and people, at the same time it emphasizes that every drop of the Palestinian people’s blood is precious, and that the movement guards the life and soul of every Palestinian. However, it believes that there is a price to freedom, and that Fatah will not hesitate to make sacrifices for freedom and independence… Assaf stated: ‘We are proud of all our people’s prisoners in the occupation’s prisons, whose number is currently about 7,000, and more than 60% of whom are Fatah members, first among them Fatah Central Committee member, brother, and fighter Marwan Barghouti, the most veteran prisoner, Karim Younes, and the oldest prisoner in prison, brother Fuad Al-Shubaki. Assaf clarified that the number of prisoners from the security services is about 400, and the number of prisoners sentenced to life is 480, 260 of them Fatah members. Assaf emphasized that the Fatah movement will continue to be loyal and adhere to the basic principles and the internationally recognized legal national rights, and will continue the path of the righteous Martyrs, and heroic prisoners and injured, who sacrificed what was most valuable to them for freedom and independence. Likewise, Fatah will continue to defend our national project and strengthen our people’s resolve on the soil of its homeland, and to be the spearhead of the resistance fighters against the despicable Israeli occupation in all its military and settlement forms… Assaf discussed the strengthening of international support for the just Palestinian cause and the international boycott of the settlements and the occupation, expressed by the European decision to mark settlement products, along with the international academic boycott of Israeli universities with branches in the settlements. Assaf stated that all of this international support coincides with the strengthening of the brave popular resistance led by Fatah, which has reached its peak in the blessed Jerusalem uprising.”

Marwan Barghouti is serving 5 life sentences for orchestrating three shooting attacks that killed 5 people: one in Jerusalem (June 12, 2001, 1 killed), another in Givat Zeev near Jerusalem (Jan. 15, 2002, 1 killed), and one in Tel Aviv (March 5, 2002, 3 killed). When arrested in 2002, he headed the Tanzim (Fatah terror faction). After he was convicted and imprisoned, he was re-elected member of the Palestinian Authority parliament.

Karim Younes - An Israeli Arab serving a 40-year sentence for kidnapping and killing Israeli soldier Avraham Bromberg in 1980 together with his cousin Maher Younes. Originally sentenced to life in prison, but Israeli President Shimon Peres reduced his sentence in 2012.

Fuad Al-Shubaki - A senior PA official who is serving a 20-year prison term. He was behind the attempt to smuggle 50 tons of illegal weapons to the Palestinian Authority aboard the Karin-A weapons’ ship in 2002.

UN resolution 194 (Chapter 11, Dec. 11, 1948) states that "the refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbors should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and that compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return." Palestinian leaders argue this means that all Arabs who left Israel during the war (hundreds of thousands) and their descendants (a few million) have a "right of return" to Israel. Israel argues that the resolution only calls for a limited return and only under certain conditions, especially focusing on the words "wishing to return... and live at peace with their neighbors."
