Al-Husseini gave the consul a detailed explanation regarding the history of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem, its connection to the Muslims, and this city’s religious significance. He also denied that the non-Muslims have any connection to this mosque, and noted that only the Muslims have a right to the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

"[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Yusuf Ida'is said that… the Al-Aqsa Mosque, including its plazas and surroundings, is a pure Islamic waqf (i.e., an inalienable religious endowment in Islamic law), and that it is impossible to change this fact in any way…
In a statement that he published yesterday [Aug. 27, 2018], Ida'is condemned the attempts to turn the Al-Aqsa Mosque into a place in which ceremonies that are not Islamic are carried out… something which will push for turning the Al-Aqsa Mosque into an arena of religious conflict, and not just political [conflict]."

PA Religious Affairs Minister: Israel is planning “the destruction of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the establishment of their [Jews’] alleged Temple;” PA Mufti: Israel wants to “Judaize” Jerusalem
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 18, 2018
“[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Yusuf Ida’is said that the occupation’s actions in Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque are a dangerous violation… the last of which being the excavations that the occupation institutions are conducting underneath the Al-Aqsa Mosque (sic., Israel does not excavate under the Temple Mount; see note below –Ed.). He added that these excavations threaten its structures, plazas, and the lives of the members of our people who visit it… Ida’is emphasized the severity of the recent developments in the Israeli violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He noted that this requires a Palestinian, Islamic, and international position appropriate to the violations, which are advancing in a systematic and planned manner up to the destruction of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the establishment of their alleged Temple… On the same matter, [PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories, preacher at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, [and Palestinian Supreme Fatwa Council Chairman] Muhammad Hussein warned that the excavations that the occupation authorities are conducting in the region of the Umayyad palaces… are disastrous. He predicted that all of the Islamic structures in the region would be undermined, and afterwards would be destroyed in order to change the holy city’s identity and completely Judaize it.”

Together with the settlers, the Israeli minister held provocative tours at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in traditional Talmudic (i.e., Jewish) garb… Official [PA] Government Spokesman Yusuf Al-Mahmoud said that the Israeli minister of agriculture's invasion of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, the holiest site to the Arabs and Muslims, and his racist and occupation statements, go too far, create tension in our land, the region, and the world, and destroy all hope for peace... Al-Mahmoud added that the statements by Ariel – who from within the Al-Aqsa Mosque (sic., Jews who visit the Temple Mount do not enter the mosque itself) made an occupation c all with destructive Orientalist-colonialist roots to establish the alleged Temple in place of the Al-Aqsa Mosque… [PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida'is also condemned the Israeli minister of agriculture and Israeli Parliament Member [Sharren Haskel’s] invasion of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.  Ida'is said that the renewal of these invasions is a dangerous escalation and an offense to the sensibilities of millions of Muslims, not only in Palestine but throughout the world… Supreme Shari’ah Judge and [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash also condemned the recurring invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by extremist Jews, which are being led by the so-called 'Israeli minister of agriculture,' Uri Ariel...."

PA Minister of Religious Affairs instructs mosque preachers to encourage participation in activities condemning “ominous” Balfour Declaration
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, Oct. 26, 2017
Headline: “Ida’is calls on the Friday preachers to urge the civilians to participate in the activities condemning the Balfour Promise”
“[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Yusuf Ida’is called on all of the mosque preachers to urge the civilians to participate in the activities condemning the ominous Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) during the Friday sermons tomorrow [Oct. 27, 2017].
Ida’is said in a press release today (Thursday) [Oct. 26, 2017]: ‘The Arabs and Muslims must act immediately to provide political, media, and financial support to the Palestinian cause, as a religious duty, and as a message of support for the Palestinians, because Jerusalem and the Palestinian holy sites do not belong only to the Palestinians, but rather to all of the Arabs and Muslims.’”

The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.” In 1922, the League of Nations adopted this and made the British Mandate “responsible for putting into effect the declaration,” which led to the UN vote in 1947 and the establishment of the State of Israel.
PA Minister of Religious Affairs: “Every day the Al-Aqsa Mosque is attacked and desecrated,” calls on Palestinians to come defend it
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 30, 2017
“[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Yusuf Ida’is said that the fact that the occupation government allowed Israeli parliament members and settler extremists to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque constitutes a large step of escalation…
He explained that this decision was made while the Al-Aqsa Mosque is being desecrated daily… and the attacks against the peaceful worshippers within it continue, and while the serious Israeli attempts to divide it according to times and areas are continuing, in preparation for its destruction and the building of the alleged Temple in its place… The minister of religious affairs explained that every day the Al-Aqsa Mosque is attacked and desecrated, the archeological artifacts within it are stolen, and excavations damage its foundations…
He added that the Israeli government’s decision to allow Israeli Parliament members to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque today [Aug. 29, 2017] heralds disastrous consequences, and indicates that the occupation is striving to create tension. He also called on the members of our people in Jerusalem and whoever can to come to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and stay in it unceasingly in order to thwart the intentions of the occupation and the herds of settlers, and to defend the Al-Aqsa Mosque against desecration and attacks.”

[He said that] these curricula are excellent curricula that strengthen the Islamic morals, develop religious knowledge, strengthen the culture and affiliation with the homeland, and open the prospects to the world of creativity and thought, far from stagnation, petrification, factionalism, and partisanship. He explained that the ministry did not stop at just composing this curriculum, and after establishing the religious and national education and culture with Shari'ah curricula, the ministry has invested all of its efforts in opening university prospects that will allow the students a university education in different fields. The ministry turned to the universities, colleges, and institutes and organized meetings to establish the idea and draw conclusions. Ida'is called on the students to join the 11th grade Shari'ah track at the Shari’ah schools for the religious and national benefits and the university study prospects their students receive."

"[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida'is called on citizens to go to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in greater numbers tomorrow (Friday) [July 28, 2017] and all of the coming days, despite the Israeli occupation's steps and restrictions that divide [the citizens] from their worship. This is because the next stage is the stage of strengthening the achievements (i.e., Israel’s removal of metal detectors and security cameras that Israel placed at the Temple Mount following a terror attack there on July 14, 2017, in which 2 Israelis were murdered; see note below) that the residents of Jerusalem obtained thanks to their resolve and popular resistance ‎(i.e., term used by Palestinians, which also refers to the use of violence and terror)‎ to the occupation's steps…
He emphasized that the members of the [Palestinian] people in Jerusalem and the rest of Palestine have conveyed a clear and unequivocal message to the government of Israel: Our holy sites, and primarily the diamond in the crown, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, are not places [that belong to] anybody but the Muslims, who will not be lax in defending them."

Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 20, 2017
"The cities of Ramallah and El-Bireh and the Qalandiya refugee camp yesterday [July 19, 2017] were witness to processions and [solidarity] vigils for Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque and demonstrations of protest over the occupation placing metal detectors at the entrances to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, amid cries to hold a day of rage on Friday and to generally be on high alert. The Fatah Movement called for a procession in Ramallah and an additional evening procession in the Qalandiya refugee camp, south of the city, and it also held an Islamic-Christian [solidarity] vigil in front of the [PA] Ministry of Religious Affairs in El-Bireh, in conjunction with similar processions in Tubas, Jenin, and the West Bank, and processions of other forces in Gaza. PA officials: Jews have “no connection” to Temple Mount, continued Israeli “crimes in Jerusalem” will lead to “more violence and spilling of blood in the entire region”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 18, 2017
Headline: "Sources of authority in Jerusalem call to boycott the metal detectors, and Ida'is calls to go up to the Al-Aqsa Mosque"

"The Islamic sources of authority in Jerusalem… called on residents of Jerusalem and Palestine to resist all of the Israeli occupation's cruel steps, which are being expressed by a change in the historical status quo, and include placing metal detectors at the Al-Aqsa Mosque gates. They called not to use [the metal detectors] under any circumstances and not to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque through them.
In a joint statement, Islamic sources of authority yesterday [July 17, 2017] called on citizens to go up to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque to pray and serve Allah. They said: 'If they continue to require entry to the Al-Aqsa Mosque by passing through metal detectors, we call on the members of our people to pray and devote themselves to serving Allah before the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in the streets of Jerusalem, and its alleys.'
[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida’is called on citizens to go up to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, to pray at the places they can reach, and to support the members of our people in Jerusalem, who are living these days under the swords of the right-wing [Israeli] government…
Ida'is also issued instructions to focus on the occupation government’s unprecedented attacks and violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque during the next Friday sermon…

PA Minister of Religious Affairs claims Israel plans “religious war,” only Muslims have the right to Western Wall
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 17, 2017
Headline: "The occupation has placed the Al-Aqsa Mosque under siege with metal detectors, and the residents of Jerusalem refuse to pass through them"

"[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida'is emphasized that the occupation's steps at the Al-Aqsa Mosque (refers to temporary closure and placement of metal detectors after a terror attack there on July 14, 2017; see note below –Ed.) are clear proof that the extremist right-wing government plans to ignite a religious war in the region that will have disastrous consequences for the entire region…
Ida'is said that the Israeli government’s actions express a clear rejection of the entire international community and of the decisions it has made about Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount), which have confirmed the Muslims' absolute right to them."

Muhammad Ahmad Muhammad Jabarin, Muhammad Hamed Abd Al-Latif Jabarin, and Muhammad Ahmad Mufaddal Jabarin - Israeli Arab terrorists aged 29, 19, and 19, who shot from the Temple Mount at Israeli policemen, murdering 2 Israeli Druze border policemen - Haiel Stawi and Kamil Shnaan, on July 14, 2017. Two of the terrorists were shot and killed by other policemen during the attack. The third terrorist was shot and killed while trying to flee.

The Al-Buraq Wall - Islam's Prophet Muhammad is said to have rode during his Night Journey from Mecca to "al aqsa mosque", i.e., "the farthest mosque" (Quran, Sura 17), and there tied his miraculous flying steed named Al-Buraq to a "stone" or a "rock." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Book 47, Hadith 3424). In the 1920's, Arab Mufti Haj Amin Al-Husseini decided to identify the Western Wall of the Temple in Jerusalem as that "rock" or "stone," and since then Muslims refer to the Western Wall as the "Al-Buraq Wall."
PA officials blame Israel for terror attack on the Temple Mount, following Israeli “policies against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem," including "securing the settlers’ daily invasions” of the Mosque
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, July 16, 2017
“Today, Sunday [July 16, 2017], popular bodies and figures and Jerusalem institutions opposed all of the recent Israeli steps that the occupation forces are attempting to force [through] within the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the plazas of the Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount), and the Old City in occupied Jerusalem (refers to how Israel stationed metal detectors at the entrance to the site in response to a terror attack on the Temple Mount on July 14, 2017 –Ed.). This came as part of a meeting that was described as significant...
In the meeting the following matters were emphasized:
1. The occupation authorities are the ones responsible for the events and actions that have taken place since last Friday (July 14, 2017), which are a product of the occupation’s policies against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem, including securing the settlers’ daily invasions of the Noble Sanctuary, continuing the settlement policy, destroying homes, and imposing exorbitant taxes on the [Arab] civilians of Jerusalem.
2. The Israeli occupation is the one responsible for transferring the confrontation that took place outside the Noble Sanctuary to within it last Friday (i.e., Israel temporarily closed the Temple Mount for two days in response to the attack), which confirms the occupation’s intent to exploit what occurred (i.e., terror attack, 2 murdered) in order to carry out its plans, whose goal is to change the status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

PA Minister of Religious Affairs: Israel pretends to look for “alleged antiquities” but seeks to change the status quo
Source: Al-Ayyam, June 29, 2017
Headline: "The [PA] Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Mufti warned against an escalation of the invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque"

"[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Yusuf Ida'is and [PA] Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories Sheikh Muhammad Hussein warned against an increased escalation of the invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the [Muslim fasting] month of Ramadan.
The Minister of Religious Affairs and the Mufti emphasized during their meeting yesterday [June 28, 2017] at the headquarters of the Ministry of Religious Affairs that the escalating and severe Israeli plans against Jerusalem, which are expressed in the continuation of their attempts to interfere in matters of the Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount), the increased excavations under the Al-Aqsa Mosque under the pretext of searching for alleged antiquities, and the increased settlement plans in Jerusalem, are an attempt to change the status quo at the Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary."

The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an "invasion." It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.

The Israeli daily Haaretz has stated that the excavations do not reach beneath the mosque:
"The diggers are painstaking to respect the dignity of the Temple Mount. Despite complaints from the Islamic Movement and Palestinian groups, not a single dig penetrates beneath the mount." [Haaretz, May 24, 2016] http://www.haaretz.com/st/c/prod/eng/2016/05/jeruz/01/

PA Minister of Religious Affairs compares thwarted terror plot in Mecca to alleged Israeli “terrorist acts” at the Al-Aqsa Mosque
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 25, 2017
Headline: "Ida'is: The terrorist act at the Holy Mosque [in Mecca] targets all of the Muslims in the world"
"[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Yusuf Ida’is condemned the cowardly terrorist act that was planned to be carried out two days ago [June 23, 2017] at the Holy Mosque (i.e., Mecca’s Grand Mosque) in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia…
He added: 'Every respectable person in this world must condemn these cowardly terrorist acts and their ilk in Jerusalem and at the Al-Aqsa Mosque (i.e., Israel’s alleged “terror,” a PA libel often repeated by PA leaders –Ed.).’"

On June 23, 2017, Saudi Arabian security forces thwarted a terror attack that was planned to take place at Mecca’s Grand Mosque.
