US recognizes Jerusalem as Israel's capital, 2017
Items relating to the crisis surrounding US President Trump's announcement on Dec. 6, 2017, recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital and announcing the eventual transfer of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
President of Al-Quds University on Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital: The US "must understand that the Palestinian people will resist this decision… whatever the cost of its resistance"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 30, 2018
Headline: "The president of Al-Quds Open University speaks at a conference on the latest developments in the Palestinian arena"

"President of Al-Quds Open University and [Fatah] Revolutionary Council member Prof. Younes Amr spoke at a conference organized yesterday [Jan. 29, 2018] by the [Fatah] Shabiba Student Movement and the student council at the Yatta branch of the university on the latest developments in the Palestinian arena…
He said that [US President Donald] Trump's promise (i.e., recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and promise to transfer the US embassy to it; see note below) is more dangerous to the Palestinian people than the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration), by virtue of which Britain gave Palestine to the Jews, and therefore Trump and his racist administration – which is biased in favor of the occupation – must understand that the Palestinian people will resist this decision with all of its strength and will not let it pass, whatever the cost of its resistance to the decision may be. At the moment we are at the stage of popular resistance to the decision, and it is possible that it will move on to a different stage.
He explained that the Canaanite Palestinian people has been under many occupations, all of which have passed, and that [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas spoke correctly when he said: 'We are remaining here and will not leave; the occupation is the one that will leave. Trump's declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of the occupation is meaningless, and our people and its leadership will continue to defy and stand firm. The Jews have no religious connection to [Jerusalem], and their connection to it is a connection of military occupation (sic., the last sentence in this quote was said by Younes Amr, not Mahmoud Abbas).'

Cartoon published in official PA daily shows Trump threatening the UN logo with a dollar sign sword
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 25, 2018
Cartoon published in the official PA daily

The cartoon shows US President Donald Trump as a victorious Roman gladiator – dressed in a roman toga and sandals. He is holding a sword with a dollar sign on its hilt, and a wreath around his head, transferred there from the UN logo below his foot, which is missing its wreath. He has one foot on the UN logo, which is also used by UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency) – which provides support to Palestinian “refugees.” This refers to the US notifying UNRWA on Jan.16, 2018, that it was withholding $65 million of a planned $125 million funding installment.

The Foreign Ministry of the Palestinian Authority attacks US VP Mike Pence
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 25, 2018
Headline: “[PA] Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Pence’s speech reveals the influence of Zionist Christianity on American policy”

“The [PA] Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates emphasized that American Vice President Mike Pence’s speech [to the Israeli Parliament] is a missionary speech that came from the mouth of a religious preacher who is closely connected to Zionism and saturated with ideological terms full of racism and hatred of the other…
The ministry said that Pence represents Zionist Christianity and the missionary Evangelical Church that believes in Jesus’ return, and thinks that his return will only be realized under the sovereignty of the State of Israel whose capital is Jerusalem. This missionary Messianic logic is what stands behind [US] President [Donald] Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the State of Israel’s capital, because the conservative Christian stream that Pence represents thinks that this will hasten Jesus’ return.”

US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel - On Dec. 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and instructed the State Department to begin preparations to transfer the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. On Jan. 25, 2018, US President Donald Trump held a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. During it Trump said that the US would stop providing financial aid to the PA if they did not return to negotiations with Israel. Trump also said: "We took Jerusalem off the table,” and when asked by a reporter whether Jerusalem being “off the table" meant that none of it would be part of a future Palestinian state, Trump refused to elaborate, responding: "Next question."

Op-ed in official PA daily: Mike Pence is trying to "incite winds of war and death… as a prelude to the appearance of Jesus."

Headline: "Pence the pirate"

"US Vice President Evangelist Mike Pence concluded his visit to the states of the region with a visit to the Israeli colonialist state on Sunday evening [Jan. 21, 2018]…
From an examination of the aspects of the visit, including the statements and the despicable American speech in the Israeli Parliament, it can be seen that Pence is from among the most right-wing and Zionist ruling group in the administration of [US President Donald] Trump, and he surpasses the Zionist Jews [Trump's Senior Advisor Jared] Kushner, [US Ambassador to Israel David] Friedman, and [Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason] Greenblatt in his coordination and solidarity with the policies and actions of the extremist right-wing coalition that rules in Israel. In this criminal act, he not only contradicts the policies of the previous American administrations, but also the decisions of the international bodies and the sources of authority of the peace process. This is not just due to colonialist economic and financial motives to serve the American businesses and interests, but also in order to incite winds of war and death among the peoples and states of the region in order to hasten the arrival of Armageddon as a prelude to the appearance of Jesus.
Abbas’ Deputy says now is a good opportunity to disconnect from US, “They have not given us a thing”

Headline: “Al-Aloul: The US became a partner of the Israeli occupation after it recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital”

Al-Quds magazine met with Fatah Movement Central Committee member and Fatah Deputy Chairman Mahmoud Al-Aloul ‘Abu Jihad’ so that he could brief us on the recent developments in the current issues.

[Q:] ‘How do you assess the Palestinian political situation after [US President Donald] Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as "Israel's" capital?’

[Mahmoud Al-Aloul:] ‘Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital is a good opportunity for us to disconnect from the US, as we no longer have the least doubt that nothing good will come to the Palestinian people and the Arab nation from the US. After this step that it has taken, it is no longer [just] biased in favor of the Israeli occupation as we knew in the past, but rather it currently constitutes a partner to the occupation. Whoever looks at the relations with the US through all of the American administrations will find that we have nothing to lose, as they have not given us a thing. They have always made promises during elections and the presidential inauguration that have quickly dissipated due to the pressures of the Zionist lobby’…
Fatah official: US Vice President Pence “proved that the American administration is part of the problem and not part of the solution”

Headline: “The US vice president was witness to the expulsion of the Arab members of the Israeli Parliament from the Israeli Parliament, and bragged that the [US] embassy will be transferred to Jerusalem by the end of 2019 – Erekat: Pence’s racist attack at the Israeli Parliament is a gift to the extremists, the US is part of the problem”

“Secretary of the PLO Executive Committee, [Fatah Central Committee member, and PLO Chief Negotiator] Saeb Erekat yesterday [Jan. 22, 2018] criticized the speech that US Vice President Mike Pence gave before the Israeli Parliament. He described it as ‘a crusade’ that constitutes ‘a gift to the extremists.’ Erekat said that the attack that Pence led in the Israeli Parliament… proved that the American administration is part of the problem and not part of the solution. He added that Pence’s message is clear: Violate the law and international decisions, and the US will reward you.”

Headline: “The Arab members of the Israeli Parliament – the frontline of Jerusalem”

“Yesterday [Jan. 22, 2018] the people of Palestine made US Vice President [Mike Pence] hear what he must hear from the Palestinians, the original owners of the land… certainly when the voices of the Palestinian (i.e., Israeli Arab) members of the Israeli Parliament, the native residents of the land, shattered the [US President Donald] Trump – [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu map, and eliminated the statement: ‘a Jewish state’ (the Arab members of the Israeli Parliament disrupted Pence’s speech and were removed; see note below –Ed.). That is on the assumption that the one who stood at the [Israeli Parliament] podium (i.e., Pence) has… the intelligence of a diplomat in a superpower, who is supposed to be wise… But this cannot be hoped for from the vice president of the country of [US Ambassador to the UN] Nikki Haley with her high heels (refers to her remark that her heels are in order to protect Israel at the UN –Ed.)... Here, in this [place] that the world calls ‘Israel’ even though it has no borders, there are two million Arab Palestinians whose historical roots sprouted here the first time the sun rose on the world after the great flood [of Noah from the Bible].

Anything can be expected from those who have committed the historical crime and from the leaders of the new US in the age of the Hitleresque and Balfouresque Trump, who think that the Earth is a cake that they have the right to divide and give pieces of to whomever they want however they want. PLO and Fatah official in Lebanon: “we are moving in the direction of… a gradual intifada while using all of the means of struggle”
Source: Falestinona, website of Fatah's Information and Culture Commission in Lebanon, Jan. 23, 2018
Headline: “Abu Al-Ardat: Despite all of the attempts to harm it, Fatah continues and is still capable of dealing with all of the difficulties and responsibilities”

“[Q:] ‘In your opinion how is it possible to deal with [US President Donald] Trump’s decision [declaring Jerusalem Israel’s capital] on the diplomatic, political, and popular level? And what is your evaluation of the Arab, Islamic, and international positions regarding this decision?’
[Fathi Abu Al-Ardat:] ‘…Currently we are moving in the direction of a combined effort of political and diplomatic activity together with activity on the ground, which is expressed in a gradual intifada while using all of the means of struggle against the occupation in order to make the occupation pay a price. This is particularly so because the UN guarantees the right of the peoples subjected to occupation to resistance in all of its forms, including that which is armed (refers to UN Resolution 3236; see note below –Ed.). At the same time, we must let our people in the Interior (i.e., Israel and the PA areas) consider what the appropriate form of confrontation is, as it is impossible to apply any specific attempt to another place and time, and the decision on this matter is in the hands of the Palestinian leadership and factions.’”

PA leaders and officials have legitimized Palestinian violence by quoting UN resolution 3236 which "recognizes the right of the Palestinian people to regain its rights by all means." The PA interprets "all means" as including violence against civilians, but has chosen to ignore the continuation of the resolution which states that the use of "all means" should be "in accordance with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations..." The UN Charter prohibits targeting civilians, even in war.

Abbas: “Jerusalem is the gate to peace… only when it will be the capital of the State of Palestine, and …it is, God forbid, the gate to war, fear, and the lack of security and stability if it is not”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 17, 2018
Official PA TV, special broadcast for the Al-Azhar Conference in Cairo, on US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “After [the US] has stood unequivocally alongside the occupation and imposed a reality upon us that leaves us no choice but to turn to all of the other options available to us to defend our rights, we will turn to all of the options – but we will not turn to terror and violence. Indeed violence and terror are rejected [by] all states of the world and us, but we have our other means through which we will turn to receive our rights, with all of these options – [to turn] back to our nation’s public so they will fulfill their role in defending Jerusalem, in addition to internationalizing the conflict with the occupation, and continuing to join the international organizations and alliances as an authentic right of the State of Palestine…
[US] President [Donald] Trump’s decision does not give Israel any legitimacy in Jerusalem and does not give the occupation a right to its land or its skies. This Jerusalem has always been a Palestinian, Arab, Islamic, and Christian city. And it is the eternal capital of the State of Palestine, and without it there cannot be peace in the region nor in the entire world – as long as Jerusalem is not liberated in all of its borders that we want from the Israeli occupation. Jerusalem is the gate to peace for everyone only when it will be the capital of the State of Palestine, and it is also the gate to war if it is not already- it is, God forbid, the gate to war, fear, and the lack of security and stability if it is not [the capital of Palestine]. It is the gate to war and peace and Mr. Trump must decide.”
