Sports promote coexistence:
Palestinian children hosted Israeli children for football game

by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik

"A friendly game of football" between Palestinian and Israeli children took place in the PA, south of Hebron, earlier this month, reported the official Palestinian Authority daily. The game was organized by a project funded by the European Union, 'Football - Our Common Denominator' and the Israeli Hapoel Tel Aviv club.

This match constitutes an important example of how sports can be used to promote coexistence, and stands in contrast to the many sporting events named after terrorists by the PA. Palestinian Media Watch has documented this practice in: From Terrorists to Role Models.

The following is an excerpt of the article about the football match for Palestinian and Israeli children:
Headline: "Game for coexistence between Palestinian and Israeli children"
"On Friday, Palestinian children hosted a group of Israeli peers for a friendly game of football between two mixed teams, in the first visit of its kind, in order to demonstrate the possibility of peaceful coexistence between two states in the future...
The mixed game was organized with the support of the 'Football - Our Common Denominator' project, funded by the European Union, in conjunction with the Israeli Ha-Poel Tel Aviv club."
