Op-ed in PA daily: Balfour Declaration was “ominous promise” in which “those without ownership of the land of Palestine gave as a gift to those who are not entitled to it”

Headline: “Strengthening the Palestinian legitimacy!”
Excerpt of an op-ed by Yahya Rabah, regular columnist for the official PA daily and a member of the Fatah Leadership Committee in Gaza.
“The great mistake that was perpetrated against Palestine 100 years ago through the ominous Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration), which those without ownership of the land of Palestine gave as a gift to those who are not entitled to it, which is the Zionist movement, and which considered a people that has existed for thousands of years (i.e., the Palestinians) as just a [group of] minorities whose humanitarian rights must be protected, without mentioning their political rights – a great mistake was the basis for the establishment of the State of Israel; it is the hinge on which all the regional and international alliances with Israel are based in different ways, and on its basis Israel continues to deny the existence of the Palestinian people, and therefore their rights as well.”

The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people” and is seen as the basis for later international commitments to establish the State of Israel.
