PA minister: Refrigerator bomber was a "Palestinian symbol," "many generations were educated on his ‎good name and reputation”‎

‎ “Yesterday evening [July 16, 2014], [PA] ‎Minister of Prisoners’ Affairs Shawqi Al-‎Issa laid a wreath on the grave of the ‎oldest prisoner, the late Ahmad Jabara ‎Abu Sukkar… Al-Issa added: ‘We will ‎always miss this man, who sacrificed ‎many years of his life in the occupation ‎prisons. After his release, he dedicated ‎his life to the prisoners…’ Al-Issa added ‎that Abu Sukkar was a Palestinian ‎symbol by any standards, and that many ‎generations were educated on his good ‎name and reputation.”‎

Ahmad Jabara Abu Sukkar – planned a ‎bombing attack in 1975 in which a ‎refrigerator filled with explosives was ‎detonated in Jerusalem. 15 people were ‎killed and over 60 people were wounded. ‎He was sentenced to life in prison plus ‎‎30 years, but was released from prison ‎after 28 years as part of a goodwill ‎gesture from Israel to the PA in 2003. He ‎was a member of the Fatah ‎Revolutionary Council and an advisor to ‎Arafat on prisoners' affairs.‎
