Fatah Central Committee member, Fatah Commissioner of Mobilization and Organization in the West Bank, and PLO Central Council member Jamal Muhaisen: “[My participation in the celebration] was a kind of message to the occupation that the issue of the prisoners and issue of the Martyrs (Shahids) are a red line for us, because they are symbols of struggle in dealing with this colonialist invasion that is still weighing on us and defiling our holy sites… Certainly we are waiting for the day when the fascist occupation’s solitary confinement cells will be closed, and then the people will celebrate its freedom in the shade of its independent state whose capital is East Jerusalem, and the return of the refugees to the lands that were occupied in 1948 (i.e., Israel).”
