PLO official accuses Israel of mistreating Palestinian prisoners and visits families of terrorists serving life sentences

Headline: “Karake: Israel committed horrible acts during the [hunger] strike”
“Director of [PLO] Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Karake said that the occupation government, according to official and intentional orders and decisions, committed horrible and dangerous acts against the prisoners who waged an unlimited hunger strike for 41 days. He added that after the strike, shocking facts were revealed about the severe deterioration of several of the prisoners’ health, and about how several of them became sick with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. Karake noted that the Israeli steps that were taken against the [hunger] strikers were very harsh… and were meant to claim victims from the ranks of the strikers… Karake said this after visiting the family of prisoner Fadi Abu Atiya from the Al-Amari refugee camp, who was sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment and suffers from mental illness and nerves due to the strike, and the family of prisoner brothers Muhammad Brash (i.e., terrorist, murdered 3), who was sentenced to life and suffers from several medical problems including a disability as a result of being shot, loss of sight, and hearing impairment, and Ramzi [Brash] (i.e., terrorist, involved in murder of 1), who was sentenced to life and is in Ashkelon Prison.”

Hunger strike (April-May 2017) Palestinian terrorist prisoners launched a hunger strike on April 17, 2017, which ended on May 27, 2017, after an agreement was reached. While the prisoners had issued a list of demands, reportedly only the demand to have the Red Cross reinstate a second monthly family visit for prisoners was agreed to. Nevertheless, the PA has claimed the development as a victory.
