Hebron District Governor: “If there is an alternative to Khan Al-Ahmar [illegal Bedouin site] it will only be Jaffa and Jerusalem”

Headline: “District Governor Hamid: There will be no alternative to Khan Al-Ahmar other than Jaffa and Jerusalem”
“With official and mass popular attendance, Hebron District Governor Kamel Hamid led a delegation that went out from the Hebron district as a sign of solidarity with our people in Khan Al-Ahmar (a site where Palestinian Bedouins illegally erected dwellings; see note below –Ed.)…
The district governor said: ‘…I want to tell you not to wait for anyone, and this is the Islamic Arab symbol of honor that the residents of Jerusalem, Hebron, and the refugee camps and the members of the Palestinian people are defending today. Not another expulsion and displacement after today, and we say to our brothers the Jahalin (i.e., the Bedouin tribe at Khan Al-Ahmar) and to all of the Bedouin villages, that you are the vanguard of this fighting people; we are with you and you will not be alone, and if there is an alternative to Khan Al-Ahmar it will only be Jaffa and Jerusalem.’”

Khan Al-Ahmar is a site where Palestinian Bedouins have illegally erected dwellings and a school, mostly simple shacks, on land in Area C (i.e., land under full Israeli administration according to the Oslo Accords). The Israeli authorities have ordered the demolition of these structures and offered alternative sites for them. A number of petitions to the Israeli Supreme Court against the demolition orders have been considered and then rejected by the court. As of July 29, 2018, the illegally constructed buildings have not been demolished. During July 2018, Palestinians have held protests at the site against the demolition, some of which have turned violent.
