PLO official supports Iran deal because Iran will help Palestinians fight Israel, “the main enemy of the region”

Headline: “Bassam Abu Sharif calls on the [world] powers to guarantee a region free of nuclear weapons”
“Bassam Abu Sharif [member of the Palestinian National Council, the legislative body of the PLO] stated that the agreement signed between Iran and the P5+1 [world] powers (China, France, Russia, the US, UK and Germany –Ed.), is a victory for Iran and for the goal to clear the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction.
Abu Sharif stated that… the Palestinian people considers this Iranian victory a first step towards the cancelation of the rules of the international game in the Middle East as they were prescribed by the West. This agreement is a first step towards the beginning of a serious struggle to remove the Israeli nuclear weapon from the region, and the increase of support for acts of resistance to the Israeli expansion and aggression… Bassam Abu Sharif stated that Israel is the main enemy of the region, because it creates a situation of aggression, racism, occupation, and expansion. We expect serious efforts to unite the ranks of resistance, and Iran’s support of it, in order to eliminate the aggression, the means of aggression, and terror organizations associated with it. Our Palestinian people considers the Iranian revolution a strategic source of support for the causes of freedom and liberation in our Arab world, and see in the Iranian revolution a power factor in dealing with the Zionist, imperialist, and reactionary plot in the region.”

Note:  P5+1 - A group of 6 world powers who joined together to deal with Iran's nuclear program through diplomacy. The 6 countries are Russia, China, France, the UK and US, who are permanent members of the UN Security Council, and Germany, one of Iran’s key trading partners. In 2006, China, Russia and the US joined the EU-3 (Germany, France and the UK) and participated in negotiations attempting to limit Iran's nuclear program. By 2006, 6 UN Security Council resolutions were adopted as a response to Iran’s nuclear program. In November 2013, an interim agreement was reached with Iran, in which Iran agreed to freeze its nuclear program in exchange for decreased economic sanctions against Iran. Negotiations continued until a comprehensive agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, was signed between the P5+1 countries, the EU and Iran in Vienna, on July 14, 2015. Under the agreement, strict limits will be placed on Iran's nuclear program, which will be subject to monitoring, in return for the lifting of sanctions against it.
