PLO official warns a new intifada might begin if Israel continues to allow “invasions” of the Al-Aqsa Mosque

Headline: “On the anniversary of the blessed Al-Aqsa Intifada, Tayseer Khaled warns of the consequences of the settlers’ invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza”
“PLO Executive Committee Member and Member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine’s (DFLP) Political Bureau Tayseer Khaled warned of the dangers surrounding the situation in the Palestinian areas. This is if the government of Israel continues its irresponsible policy, limits the freedom of the Palestinian citizens to reach the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and continues to allow the settlers to invade the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza (i.e., Temple Mount), riot, and hold religious ceremonies in a way that provokes the sensibilities of the Palestinian citizens, especially during the period of the [Jewish] holidays.
He mentioned the provocative and ominous visit of Ariel Sharon, former Prime Minister of Israel and leader of the extremist right-wing opposition at the time , held on Sept. 28, 2002 (sic, 2000). [Khaled mentioned that Sharon] invaded the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza under heavy armed security, and as a result the blessed Al-Aqsa Intifada (i.e., PA terror campaign 2000-2005) broke out, the second Intifada, in which both sides paid a heavy price; during the five years of the Intifada the Palestinians sacrificed 4,000 Martyrs (Shahids), and approximately 1,069 killed soldiers and civilians fell on the Israeli side.
Tayseer Khaled held the Israeli government fully responsible for the possibility that the situation in Jerusalem might deteriorate. He added that apparently the government of [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu has not learned the lesson and insists on continuing to do the same foolish act of [former Israeli Prime Ministers] Ehud Barak and Ariel Sharon.”

The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an "invasion." It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.
