Palestinian ambassador to Egypt: PA supports “popular resistance”

“Ambassador of Palestine in Egypt and its permanent representative in the Arab League Jamal Al-Shubaki warned against the danger of transferring the American embassy to Jerusalem, and emphasized that if the new American administration takes this step it will destroy the peace process and the two-state solution. He emphasized that the scope of the Arab and international response has caused Washington to delay in taking this step.
Al-Shubaki said in an interview with Al-Quds that Egypt is our Arab [strategic] depth, and it is important not only because it is the largest Arab state and the Arab League headquarters is located there, but because it is leading the Arab decision making, and the Arab public opinion is formulated in Egypt. [Question:] What about the Palestinian popular resistance (i.e., term that refers to acts including violence -Ed.) against the occupation?
[Ambassador of Palestine in Egypt and its permanent representative in the Arab League Jamal Al-Shubaki:] There is the daily popular resistance of the Palestinian civilian [carried out through] his presence and resolve on his land, and there are ongoing confrontations between the Palestinians and settlers. The PA knows that we do not have the ability to resist through military means, and when we attempted that in the second Intifada (i.e., PA terror campaign 2000-2005) the losses were great and Palestinian society was damaged in a number of fields, as happened in Gaza, and this is as a result of the Israeli military supremacy. The PA supports this type of resistance, and the Palestinian people has invented means of confrontation and resolve against the Israeli supremacy and is dealing with the danger through its limited abilities, because Israel is a military weapons arsenal.”
The terms "peaceful uprising/resistance,” and “popular uprising/resistance" are used by PA leaders at times to refer to peaceful protest and at times to refer to deadly terror attacks and terror waves. For example, Mahmoud Abbas defined as “peaceful popular” the murderous terror during the 2015-2016 terror wave (“The Knife Intifada”), in which 40 people were killed (36 Israelis, 1 Palestinian, 2 Americans and 1 Eritrean) and hundreds wounded by stabbings, shootings and car ramming attacks: Abbas said: "we want peaceful popular uprising, and that’s what this is." http://palwatch.org/main.aspx?fi=157&doc_id=16437
