Fatah spokesperson responds to Israeli newspaper: Al-Aloul has “always emphasized his full support for the legal popular resistance”

“Ziyad Khalil Abu Ziyad, a spokesman of the Fatah Movement and head of international relations in the office of the movement’s Deputy Chairman Mahmoud Al-Aloul, said that Abu Jihad (i.e., Al-Aloul) always emphasized his full support for the legal popular resistance (term used by Palestinians that includes the use of violence –Ed.). He added that there is nothing new in the article that was published on the website of the [Israeli] newspaper Yediot Aharonot [on March 10, 2017] in order to incite against the deputy president (sic). Abu Ziyad also said that at a time when the Israeli press is attempting to fish in murky waters, the Fatah leadership continues to be united and to work as one unit in full and comprehensive coordination between all of the members of the [Fatah] Central Committee, the [Fatah] Revolutionary Council, and the branch secretaries, according to Abu Ziyad’s statement. The Fatah spokesman condemned the way in which Yediot Aharonot presented Abu Jihad Al-Aloul’s plan, in that it described him as supporting a popular resistance ‘that will remind Israel of difficult days.’ He emphasized that there is no disagreement on the position of Fatah, which has always called and will always call for resistance to the occupation until its disappearance from the land of Palestine.”
The terms "all means," "peaceful resistance,” and “popular resistance" are often used by PA leaders to refer to events that include violence and deadly terror against Israeli civilians such as rock-throwing, stabbings and even shootings.
