Fatah official, speaking on Abbas' behalf: US embassy move and recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital will be "thwarted;" Zionism "is striving to take over the world's resources by force"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 7, 2018
"In his speech on behalf of the president [Abbas], [Fatah Central Committee member and Fatah Commissioner for Arab and China Relations] Abbas Zaki said that US President Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and transfer his country's embassy to it will be thwarted thanks to the Palestinian resolve, thanks to the resolve of the entire world – Muslims, Christians, and Jews – against this foolish decision, and by imposing international isolation on the US and the occupation… He said: 'Our conflict is not with the Jews, but rather with Zionism, which has no values and principles, and which does not attach importance to rights and laws. It includes people that are not Jews and is striving to take over the world's resources by force… [Zaki] said: 'Our position is strong - we reject that any mosque should constitute an alternative to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. One hundred and thirty-eight states in the world recognize the State of Palestine, and we demand that they revoke their recognition of Israel…' He added that the Palestinian leadership has objected to the decision to denounce [Chairman of Hamas’ Political Bureau] Ismail Haniyeh as a terrorist (he was added to the US terror list; see note below –Ed.)."
Fatah official: "There is no such thing as the capital city of the Jews;" Israel is "exploiting religion in order to justify its massacres and the terror" against Palestinians

Official PA TV program Pulse of the Fields, hosting Fatah Central Committee Secretary and Head of the PLO Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs Jibril Rajoub

Fatah Central Committee Secretary and Head of the PLO Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs Jibril Rajoub: “We think that Jerusalem is a holy city for all of the religions, because all of the monotheistic religions were given in Jerusalem. But we have not agreed, and will not agree, and will not allow there to be sovereignty for the Israeli occupation there or sovereignty for the Jewish religion, which we recognize, because there is no such thing as the capital city of the Jews (previously Rajoub said there would be Jewish sovereignty at the Western Wall; see note below –Ed.). There is no religion that has a capital city, other than in the logic of [US President Donald] Trump (sic., one such example is the Vatican; comment refers to Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital)…
There will only be security, peace, and stability after the return of Jerusalem to its owners, and when Jerusalem will be open to all of the monotheistic religions for ritual purposes, and not as part of the Zionist colonialist project, which is exploiting religion in order to justify its massacres and the terror that it is committing against the Palestinian people.”

PLO official “emphasized that it is necessary to escalate the intifada and the resistance in all of its forms” in response to Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital
Source: Wattan (independent Palestinian news agency)‎, Feb. 5, 2018
Headline: “Wasel Abu Yusuf: The Palestinian people and its leadership are capable of thwarting all of the American attempts”

“Secretary-General of the Palestinian Liberation Front and PLO Executive Committee member Dr. Wasel Abu Yusuf… warned against [US President Donald Trump's] deal of the century whose goal is to eliminate the Palestinian cause through American decisions and reduce Washington’s aid to UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East). He emphasized that the Palestinian people everywhere it is located adheres to the right of return, to the fact that Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine and that it is necessary to deal with the dangers surrounding the issue – and particularly to all that concerns the American recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of the occupation entity…
Abu Yusuf emphasized that it is necessary to escalate the intifada and the resistance in all of its forms (‎i.e., term used by Palestinians, which also refers to the use of violence and terror‎) against the occupation, until [US President Donald] Trump’s decision is brought down. He also emphasized that the people and factions will thwart the deal of the century, and that all of the plans to eliminate the Palestinian cause will receive a response.”

In early January 2018, the US froze two planned payments to UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) for more than $100 million, and the US administration spoke about the need to reexamine and conduct a reform of the UN body. This occurred after the PA refused to negotiate with Israel and cut diplomatic ties with America following US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital on Dec. 6, 2017.

President of Al-Quds University on Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital: The US "must understand that the Palestinian people will resist this decision… whatever the cost of its resistance"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 30, 2018
Headline: "The president of Al-Quds Open University speaks at a conference on the latest developments in the Palestinian arena"

"President of Al-Quds Open University and [Fatah] Revolutionary Council member Prof. Younes Amr spoke at a conference organized yesterday [Jan. 29, 2018] by the [Fatah] Shabiba Student Movement and the student council at the Yatta branch of the university on the latest developments in the Palestinian arena…
He said that [US President Donald] Trump's promise (i.e., recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and promise to transfer the US embassy to it; see note below) is more dangerous to the Palestinian people than the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration), by virtue of which Britain gave Palestine to the Jews, and therefore Trump and his racist administration – which is biased in favor of the occupation – must understand that the Palestinian people will resist this decision with all of its strength and will not let it pass, whatever the cost of its resistance to the decision may be. At the moment we are at the stage of popular resistance to the decision, and it is possible that it will move on to a different stage.
He explained that the Canaanite Palestinian people has been under many occupations, all of which have passed, and that [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas spoke correctly when he said: 'We are remaining here and will not leave; the occupation is the one that will leave. Trump's declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of the occupation is meaningless, and our people and its leadership will continue to defy and stand firm. The Jews have no religious connection to [Jerusalem], and their connection to it is a connection of military occupation (sic., the last sentence in this quote was said by Younes Amr, not Mahmoud Abbas).'

Palestinian “activists” disrupt American delegation visiting the Bethlehem district following US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital
Source: PNN Palestine News Network (independent Palestinian news agency), Jan. 30, 2018
Headline: “Following the expulsion of an American delegation from Bethlehem, the American State Department said that it opposes the turn to violence as a means of expressing political positions”

“The American State Department responded in a statement to the expulsion of an American delegation that visited the Bethlehem district Chamber of Commerce and Industry this morning, Tuesday [Jan. 30, 2018], and said that it opposes the turn to violence as a means of expressing political positions.

The American State Department said in a notice from its spokesperson: ‘The program that the American Consulate General in Jerusalem organized in Bethlehem was thwarted by lawless protesters.’
According to the American State Department, this program is part of the long-term American assistance in creating economic opportunities for the Palestinians…
A group of Palestinian activists in Bethlehem this morning, Tuesday, expelled an American delegation that was visiting the Bethlehem district Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The activists broke into the Chamber of Commerce building and one of the halls in which a workshop of a group of senior American officials at the American consulate was being held and drove them out of the room. Afterwards, they threw eggs and tomatoes at the American consulate vehicles and hit the American diplomatic vehicles with their hands and feet while repeating calls condemning the American position…
The Fatah Movement secretary at the Aida refugee camp said that the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce and Industry, led by Samir Hazboun, welcomed the American State Department delegation at its building. This decision contradicts the national decision that called not to welcome the Americans, whose President [Donald Trump] declared Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. He added: ‘The Palestinian people will not welcome any American party.’”

Official PA TV, speech by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas at the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Jan. 28, 2018

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “The continuation of the peace efforts requires the establishment of a bilateral international body under the umbrella of the UN, and we call for the African Union and its member states to have representatives in this body or in the international summit, which we are calling to organize according to the decisions of the international institutions, the principle of the two-state solution on the 1967 borders, and the end of the Israeli occupation on the land of Palestine, including East Jerusalem, the capital of our state, which we want to be open to all believers of the monotheistic religions - Islam, Christianity, and Judaism - who will carry out their religious rituals and prayers there, in security and peace, which will provide an opportunity to everyone who is in Palestine and Israel to live in security, stability, and good neighborliness.”
Fatah official: VP Pence’s visit to Western Wall is an “attack” against the Palestinians, falsely claims Jews have no connection to Wall
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 23, 2018
“Fatah Movement Central Committee member, [Fatah Commissioner of Mobilization and Organization in the West Bank, and PLO Central Council member] Jamal Muhaisen said in a phone call with [the official PA news agency] WAFA that Pence's visit to the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount) is an attack against the Palestinian people, as he is visiting East Jerusalem – the capital of the State of Palestine – at a time when the Palestinian leadership and people are not welcoming him. [Muhaisen added that] the British committee determined in 1929 that the wall belongs to the Muslims and that the Jews have no connection to it or place there (sic., the 1930 Wailing Wall Commission did not rule out the Jewish connection to the Western Wall; see note below –Ed.)."

Abbas’ Deputy says now is a good opportunity to disconnect from US, “They have not given us a thing”

Headline: “Al-Aloul: The US became a partner of the Israeli occupation after it recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital”

Al-Quds magazine met with Fatah Movement Central Committee member and Fatah Deputy Chairman Mahmoud Al-Aloul ‘Abu Jihad’ so that he could brief us on the recent developments in the current issues.

[Q:] ‘How do you assess the Palestinian political situation after [US President Donald] Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as "Israel's" capital?’

[Mahmoud Al-Aloul:] ‘Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital is a good opportunity for us to disconnect from the US, as we no longer have the least doubt that nothing good will come to the Palestinian people and the Arab nation from the US. After this step that it has taken, it is no longer [just] biased in favor of the Israeli occupation as we knew in the past, but rather it currently constitutes a partner to the occupation. Whoever looks at the relations with the US through all of the American administrations will find that we have nothing to lose, as they have not given us a thing. They have always made promises during elections and the presidential inauguration that have quickly dissipated due to the pressures of the Zionist lobby’…

Speech by Egyptian Imam broadcast on official PA TV: US administration’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital “will feed the violent extremism and cause its spread throughout the world”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 22, 2018
Official PA TV program Palestine This Morning, a video is shown of a speech by Imam of the Egyptian Al-Azhar Institute Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb at a conference for Jerusalem held in Cairo

Imam of the Egyptian Al-Azhar Institute Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb: “We completely reject the American administration’s recent decisions, which nothing more than [a piece of] paper for the Arab and Islamic world and the free people of the world. Therefore, they are completely rejected… The conference [participants] and all of the Arabs, Muslims, and free people of the world in the east and west are behind them, warning that if those who published this decision (i.e., to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital) do not hurry to take back their decision immediately, it will feed the violent extremism and cause its spread throughout the world from the east to the west.”

Al-Qawasmi added in a statement to [the independent Palestinian news agency] Ma’an that Pence has made racist and extremist statements against the Palestinian people, and that he considered Jerusalem the historical and religious capital of the Jewish people, amid a clear violation of all the international conventions and agreements… [Al-Qawasmi] emphasized that there is incessant aggression from US President [Donald Trump] and his vice president against the Palestinian refugees, which was expressed in the latest decisions about cutting the aid to UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) and stopping all of the aid presented to the members of our people… He also called on all of the Arab brothers not to welcome [Pence].”

Abbas’ advisor: Jerusalem is ours, the land curses them [Israelis] and rejects them, they have no right to it
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 19, 2018
Official PA TV, excerpt of sermon by Supreme Shari’ah Judge, Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs, and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice Mahmoud Al-Habbash

Supreme Shari’ah Judge, Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs, and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice Mahmoud Al-Habbash: "Is it possible that one of those who claim that they are determining the fates of peoples, and call themselves ‘superpowers’ or ‘the superpower’… – can they change the identity [of Jerusalem] that was determined by Allah (refers to US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital; see note below –Ed.)? Can they deprive Jerusalem of a title that Allah determined for it? This cannot happen!
Do they [the Israelis] imagine that they can force us to recognize their alleged right to a land that every morning and evening curses them and rejects them? They can obtain legitimacy from the entire world, but not from us, not from us. [Only] we have the ability to grant legitimacy to whoever comes to Jerusalem and its surroundings, because we are its inheritors. We are its owners. We are its builders. We are its people, and we are the inheritors of the heritage of the prophets in it. Jerusalem is ours – sooner or later – with all its borders, landmarks, parts, and every grain of sand in it; including its Al-Aqsa Mosque, its churches, its roads, its homes, its land, and that which is under its land; and with its skies and that which is above them. It is ours and ours alone, and no one can share it with us, and we will not agree to this. It cannot be divided, and it cannot be split. It will only hand over its reins to one whom it loves, one to whom it belongs and who belongs to it..."

Abbas: “Jerusalem is the gate to peace… only when it will be the capital of the State of Palestine, and …it is, God forbid, the gate to war, fear, and the lack of security and stability if it is not”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 17, 2018
Official PA TV, special broadcast for the Al-Azhar Conference in Cairo, on US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “After [the US] has stood unequivocally alongside the occupation and imposed a reality upon us that leaves us no choice but to turn to all of the other options available to us to defend our rights, we will turn to all of the options – but we will not turn to terror and violence. Indeed violence and terror are rejected [by] all states of the world and us, but we have our other means through which we will turn to receive our rights, with all of these options – [to turn] back to our nation’s public so they will fulfill their role in defending Jerusalem, in addition to internationalizing the conflict with the occupation, and continuing to join the international organizations and alliances as an authentic right of the State of Palestine…
[US] President [Donald] Trump’s decision does not give Israel any legitimacy in Jerusalem and does not give the occupation a right to its land or its skies. This Jerusalem has always been a Palestinian, Arab, Islamic, and Christian city. And it is the eternal capital of the State of Palestine, and without it there cannot be peace in the region nor in the entire world – as long as Jerusalem is not liberated in all of its borders that we want from the Israeli occupation. Jerusalem is the gate to peace for everyone only when it will be the capital of the State of Palestine, and it is also the gate to war if it is not already- it is, God forbid, the gate to war, fear, and the lack of security and stability if it is not [the capital of Palestine]. It is the gate to war and peace and Mr. Trump must decide.”

Fatah official in Gaza after US recognition of Jerusalem: “All the options for defending and protecting this Palestinian, Arab, and Islamic right [to Jerusalem] are open”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 10, 2018
Official PA TV, program Palestine This Morning, report from official PA TV studio in Gaza on the responses and protests to US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and transfer the US embassy to it, interview with Fatah Supreme Leadership Council in the Southern Districts (the Gaza Strip) member Najah Aliwa

Official PA TV host: “Let’s talk about the things that were organized yesterday [Dec. 9, 2017] and before then that stood out: the processions and protests against the transfer of the American embassy to Jerusalem.”
Fatah Supreme Leadership Council in the Southern Districts (the Gaza Strip) member Najah Aliwa: “First of all, I want to direct a blessing of honor to our Palestinian people that is standing firm, our people that [launched] a spontaneous uprising, without orders and instructions – this is Jerusalem. Jerusalem is a red line. Anything that touches Jerusalem touches the entire Palestinian people. It touches the heart and soul of the Palestinian people…
The Palestinian people is well aware of its rights. It knows well that Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Palestinian state, and therefore there is no concession. Jerusalem is a red line, no one can approach it. All of the options stand before the Palestinian people. All the options for defending and protecting this Palestinian, Arab, and Islamic right are open... Fatah will not veer from the wise decision of the Palestinian leadership. All of the options are open, until the American leadership or American administration takes back its irresponsible decision that was made – I think – in a moment in which clear vision was absent in the American administration.”

“The Fatah Movement emphasized that for the Palestinian people, the battle of Jerusalem is a battle for existence, national identity, and the state, and [Jerusalem] is the political capital of the State of Palestine and an inseparable part of the occupied territories of the State of Palestine, and there is no solution without Jerusalem as our eternal capital.
[Fatah] Movement Spokesman and [Fatah] Revolutionary Council member Osama Al-Qawasmi said in a press statement yesterday [Jan. 7, 2018]: ‘We in the Fatah Movement are continuing in our struggle and resistance to the ominous American announcement on Jerusalem; to all of the racist Israeli decisions and steps that are directed against our existence, our history, and our authentic narrative; and also to their attempts to falsify history and produce facts that are the product of their imagination.’”

Op-ed in official PA daily attacks the US for its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, attacks Israel using antisemitic themes

"The courageous Palestinian leadership is rejecting the American extortion now, and where are you [Hamas]? Where are your views regarding a practical response - and not through exaggerations and talk? Where is your alternative money for the $370 million that are given by the US? Why don't you gather it first and talk only afterwards? Why aren't you raising initiatives in response to the American administration? Have you recalled your ambassadors from [the US]? Have you made threats regarding trade, money, oil, or relations?…
The American administration is now twisting the PA's arm, and the battle of 'who will give way first' has begun. The PA says unanimously: ‘No to the sale of Jerusalem, not for gold and not for billions,’ and it says this while standing on the brink of the abyss.…
Israel is a fascist, colonialist, racist regime – do you understand that? And why aren't you dealing with it face-to-face - before it enters your capital cities and annihilates your people - and also with [the US] the one committing the extortion and who wants Jerusalem in return for the $370 million that he pays to the PA, '[US President Donald] Trump'? Have you not read Shakespeare's play The Merchant of Venice with the Jewish hero Shylock, and how he wanted to punish a man by removing a pound of flesh from his body because he could not pay him?
They want Jerusalem in return for aid… If [Jerusalem's] people will not defend it, others will defend it, as the other non-Muslim religions and peoples will not allow that it [Jerusalem] fall into the hands of the murderers of the prophets, and the murderers of Jesus in particular…
There is no reason for Mahmoud Abbas' slogan to be 'millions of Martyrs [are marching to Jerusalem],’ and that he will give them as fuel for the new Nazi oven, which Israel inherited from Hitler so that his fire would not go out

Op-ed in PA daily: “The historical and religious facts and testimony,” and “international conventions and laws” prove that “Jerusalem… has no symbolism whatsoever from the Jews’ perspective”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 1, 2018
Excerpt of an op-ed by Omar Hilmi Al-Ghoul, regular columnist for the official PA daily

“For a considerable period – more than a year – Egyptian author Youssef Ziedan has been distorting and changing the facts of history regarding Palestine and its holy sites, and particularly the Al-Aqsa Mosque… He is falsely and deceitfully claiming that Jerusalem is a ‘holy’ site for the Jews, and that it is a ‘symbol’ for them (sic., in a local Egyptian ONTV interview on Dec. 24, 2017, Ziedan said Jerusalem is not a holy city and added "neither we [Muslims] nor the [Jews] have anything to do with [the Al-Aqsa Mosque]")…
This is despite all of the historical and religious facts and testimony, in addition to the international conventions and laws, and the resolutions of the UN in general and UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) in particular, proving day after day that Jerusalem is Palestinian-Arab and Islamic-Christian, and that it has no symbolism whatsoever from the Jews’ perspective (sic., Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital for 3,000 years), including the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount), which they claim is the Western Wall.”

Fatah Rev. Council member: Israeli narrative that Jerusalem was a Jewish capital is “false” and a “lie,” which Pres. Trump is "aiding"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Dec. 31, 2017
Official PA TV, special broadcast on US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, hosting Fatah Revolutionary Council member Osama Al-Qawasmi

Official PA TV host: “Mister Osama [Al-Qawasmi,] President [Mahmoud Abbas] said that Jerusalem will remain the eternal capital of the Palestinian state...”
Fatah Revolutionary Council member Osama Al-Qawasmi: “Yes certainly, [that is] the heart of the conflict, and I want to honestly tell you, the Palestinian people, and all those who are listening to us – why are they insisting on Jerusalem [as] the capital of the occupation, [which is] a lie and falsehood? And why is [US President Donald] Trump at this time aiding this false Israeli narrative, which they fabricated from their hearts, when it has no foundation, no [support in] religion, nor in history, and not even in international law. They want to establish the Israeli narrative and the refutation of the Palestinian narrative about this land being ours, because they have promoted a lie for 100 years that this is the Promised Land, that history is with them, and that [Jerusalem] was their capital – and this is not correct at all, not in history, not in religion, and not in international law. And regarding [Israel], this ecstasy that they feel over Trump’s aid about Jerusalem being theirs, it is an attempt to spread that this Israeli narrative is the correct one and that the Palestinian narrative is false. They are also simultaneously demanding that we [recognize] the Jewishness of this state in order to refute the Palestinian narrative about this land being Arab, Canaanite, Jebusite, and Palestinian. They want to say that it is Jewish, [and this is] a lie and falsehood.”
