Fatah official claims Palestinians have been “collapsing under occupation for 70 years”, contradicts statement by calling for “1967 border”

Headline: "Amna Jibril: A serious stance is necessary for the strengthening and defense of the presence and participation of the Palestinian woman in all of the frameworks and arenas"

"The Al-Quds magazine met with Fatah Revolutionary Council member and Director of the General Union of Palestinian Women in the Lebanon branch Amna Jibril in order to examine with her the importance of holding the [Seventh Fatah] Conference under the present conditions, and how it influenced the Lebanese arena…"

Q.: "In what way was the Seventh Conference different from the Sixth Conference? And what is your assessment of the mechanism used to hold the Seventh Conference?"

Fatah Revolutionary Council member Amna Jibril: "…The Seventh Conference was unusual in the amount of young people that were present and in the fact that 28 delegations were present from 28 [foreign] states that emphasized the Palestinian right, the need to realize [the establishment of] an independent Palestinian state, and the legality of the Palestinian struggle. They also emphasized the right [of the Palestinian people] to carry out legal resistance to end the occupation, and the need to end the terrible [Fatah-Hamas] rift and complete the national reconciliation. Their participation and speeches indicated the clear international support for the Palestinian cause, the highlighting of the need for a two-state solution according to the 1967 borders so that Jerusalem will be the capital of the Palestinian state, and also the highlighting of the international desire to achieve peace, particularly in light of the fact that the Palestinian people has been collapsing under occupation for the last 70 years."

The article appears in the January 2017 edition of the magazine of Fatah’s Information and Culture Commission in Lebanon, Al-Quds, and was posted on the commission’s website Falestinona on Jan. 19, 2017.
