Jerusalem under assault
Denial of Jewish connection to Jerusalem
Jerusalem under assault
In 2009 the Palestinian Authority has initiated an unprecedented campaign of historical revision and anti-Israel libels concerning Jerusalem, the focal point being the erasure and denial of 3,000 years of Jewish history in Jerusalem.

In addition, the PA disseminates the libel that Israel is acting both to expel Arabs from Jerusalem and to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Jerusalem libels are designed to evoke religious hatred by portraying Israel and the Jews as a threat to Arabs and Islam.

This section documents the recent intensification of the Palestinian Authority's campaign of distortion, historical revision and hate incitement surrounding Jerusalem.

Denial of Jewish connection to Jerusalem
"Jerusalem is the religious, political and spiritual capital of Palestine - the Jews have no right to it," declared senior PA religious official, Dr. Tayseer Al-Tamimi, PA Chief Justice of religious court. Accordingly, any Jewish life and development in Jerusalem is labeled as "Judaization." Jerusalem is presented as an exclusively Muslim and Christian city, with no regard to history or archeology, and even the existence of the Temple being denied.

Official PA TV program Al-Aqsa Citadels, on the religious significance of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, hosting Al-Quds University Islamic law lecturer Husam Al-Faqih
Al-Quds University Islamic law lecturer Husam Al-Faqih: “It has been proven historically, and also proven by archaeological excavations conducted by Jewish and non-Jewish archaeologists, that there are no archeological findings that are connected to the Jews. All of the excavations that were conducted at the bottom of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and around it have all yielded Islamic antiquities or ancient Roman antiquities, and there is no proof of the Jews’ claim that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is holy to them.”

Abbas’ advisor: Jerusalem is “Arab and Islamic and a pure Islamic heritage, which no one other than the Muslims have a right to”

Headline: “Al-Habbash from Tunis: The visit of Arabs and Muslims to Jerusalem is a religious virtue and a political need”

“Supreme Shari’ah Judge of Palestine and [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash… called to revive the roles of the waqf (i.e., an inalienable religious endowment in Islamic law) ministries in the Islamic world in order to support the residents of Jerusalem, to aid them in standing firm on their land and in their city, and to provide them with direct aid through Arab and Islamic investments in the holy city, visits to Jerusalem, making direct contact with its residents, and becoming familiar with their suffering. He noted that visiting Jerusalem is normalization with its original [Arab] residents and true owners who are longing to meet their Arab and Muslim brothers in their city, and not normalization with the occupation.
The supreme Shari’ah judge presented Tunisian Minister [of Justice and Religious Affairs Ghazi Jeribi ] with a book on Jerusalem that bears its name and includes all of its religious, historical, and cultural aspects that remind us every day that this city is Arab and Islamic and a pure Islamic heritage, which no one other than the Muslims have a right to, as was confirmed by the latest international resolutions, and particularly the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) resolutions.”

UNESCO Resolution on “Occupied Palestine”
On Oct. 13, 2016, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) passed a resolution in Paris on “Occupied Palestine” with 24 countries voting in favor, 6 against, and 24 abstentions. The resolution was later approved by UNESCO's World Heritage Committee on Oct. 26, 2016, in a secret ballot in which ten countries voted in favor of the resolution, two opposed, e

Headline: “The [PA] Grand Mufti: Guterres’ statements are severe violations”
“[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and preacher at the Al-Aqsa Mosque [and acting Secretary-General of the PLO Popular National Conference of Jerusalem] Muhammad Hussein responded to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ statements regarding the connection between the Jews and the Al-Aqsa Mosque (sic., Guterres referred to the Jewish connection to Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, see below). [Hussein] emphasized in a statement yesterday [Jan. 30, 2017,] that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a purely Islamic mosque and no one but the Muslims has a right to it, and only they are allowed to intervene in its affairs. He also emphasized that the mosque has special significance for Muslims worldwide, and the decision to harm it is dangerous and deserving of condemnation by all standards. Regarding this, he mentioned the UNESCO resolution [of Oct. 13, 2016], according to which the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque belongs to the Muslims and the Israeli occupation has no connection to the mosque, its walls, its plazas, and what is underneath it. In addition, Hussein described Guterres’ statements as ‘severe violations’ and a violation of the international status quo regarding Jerusalem."

PA daily op-ed: "There is and never has been any sort of Temple... in Palestine... [Israelis] have not found a single thing connected to Judaism in all of Palestine, and not just in Jerusalem"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 30, 2017
"[UN secretary-general] Antonio Guterres clearly and explicitly sinned against peace and the Palestinian-Israeli political agreement when he claimed yesterday [Jan. 29, 2017] in an interview with the Hebrew-language Voice of Israel [radio] that he 'believes in the connection between Jerusalem and the Jews.' In contradiction to the UNESCO resolutions, history, and facts, the secretary-general claimed that it is as clear as day - in his opinion which is far from the truth and the facts - that 'The Temple in Jerusalem that was destroyed by the Romans was a Jewish Temple'...
Mr. Antonio... [you should know that] Jerusalem and all of Palestine - from the [Jordan] River to the [Mediterranean] Sea - are the land of the Palestinian people, and their history is its history... Jerusalem is Palestinian Arab. It belongs only to the followers of Islam and Christianity, and not Judaism, but this does not prevent followers of the Jewish religion from visiting it. What is called the 'Wailing' Wall is nothing but the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall). There is and never has been any sort of Temple of Prophet Suleiman (i.e., King Solomon) in Palestine. The Israelis have been excavating for nearly 100 years throughout the length and breadth of the land since occupying it in its entirety in June 1967 (sic., 50 years), and they have not found a single thing connected to Judaism (sic., numerous Jewish artifacts have been unearthed -Ed.) in all of Palestine, and not just in Jerusalem..."

PA Ministry of Religious Affairs on UN Sec-Gen statement's reagarding Jewish Temple: "The entire holy site of Jerusalem is a purely Islamic site, to which nobody else has any right"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 30, 2017
“The [PA] Ministry of Religious Affairs and the national action factions condemned in the strongest language the statements of new UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the matter of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the alleged Temple in occupied Jerusalem…
Guterres said earlier in his statements to Voice of Israel radio that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is ‘a Jewish Temple and belongs to the Jews,’ and in doing so contradicted dozens of resolutions passed by his organization [the UN], its institutions, and its committees that are concerned with the matter, which have emphasized that the entire holy site of Jerusalem is a purely Islamic site, to which nobody else has any right…
[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida’is condemned Guterres’ statements. He said that they misconstrue the historical facts and constitute an attempt to return the crisis to the starting point, ignoring the UNESCO resolution [of Oct. 13, 2016], which clearly determined the legal and historical status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque as the exclusive right of Muslims and a sacred property belonging only to them. [He added that] it is forbidden to change this status under any circumstances...”

Fatah: US embassy move "will open the gates of hell"

Headline: “Fatah: Transferring the American embassy to Jerusalem will open the gates of hell”
“The Fatah Movement said that if the American embassy is transferred to East Jerusalem (a Jerusalem location for the embassy has not yet been specified –Ed.), the gates of hell will open in the region and in the world. It added that this will prevent any chance of peace and stability in the region.
Fatah Revolutionary Council member and spokesman Osama Al-Qawasmi emphasized on Saturday evening [Jan. 14, 2017] in a press statement that East Jerusalem is the capital of the Palestinian state according to the law, the international institutions, and the UN resolutions regarding our issue, the last of which was [UN Security Council] Resolution 2334.
Al-Qawasmi emphasized that Fatah, the Palestinian people, and all free people in the world will not allow this step to pass. [He added that it] ‘harms our history, our religion, our cultural heritage, and our legal right to our land and to our holy sites,’ and that ‘We will defend our Jerusalem and our land, no matter how many sacrifices will be required.’”

Abbas' advisor on religious affairs calls on Imams and Christian clergy to preach about the dangers of transferring the US embassy to Jerusalem
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 13, 2017
Headline: "Al-Habbash called on Imams of mosques in Arab and Muslim states to focus on the dangers of transferring the US embassy to Jerusalem"
"Supreme Shari'ah Judge of Palestine and [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas'] Advisor on Religious [and Islamic] Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash yesterday [Jan. 12, 2017] called on religious scholars and Imams of mosques in the Arab and Islamic world to speak in the Friday sermons about the dangers of transferring the American embassy to occupied Jerusalem.
Al-Habbash related in a press statement to the dangers inherent in the US taking this unwise step, due to its implications for international peace and security.
He added: 'We call on the Imams of mosques in all Arab and Islamic states to deal with this grave matter during the Friday sermons. We also hope that the Christian clergy will also do this in their religious sermons this Sunday, as Jerusalem has an important place in the hearts of more than 1.3 billion Muslims in the world. In addition, it is also holy to Christians, and we do not agree to the damaging of its religious status and its identity.'
He continued: 'Everything could collapse if they transfer the embassy to Jerusalem and damage its value and meaning, as this could open wide the door to scenarios that no one wishes for. This is because the Al-Aqsa Mosque is the first direction of prayer for the Muslims and the third holiest “Noble Sanctuary.” Jerusalem also includes holy sites important to Christians, and primarily the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.' Al-Habbash said: 'Transferring the American embassy to Jerusalem constitutes an unacceptable step as it contradicts international law, and we hope that the administration of [US] President[-elect] Donald Trump will not take such a step.’"

Zaki said today, Wednesday [Jan. 11, 2017], in an interview with Radio Mawtini: 'The transfer of the American embassy to Jerusalem will be a sign of the end of the world.' He added: 'The attack against the place of [Prophet] Muhammad’s Ascent to Heaven and Jesus' resurrection contradicts the religious and international understandings,' and he warned against the terrible dangers whose course cannot be predicted. Zaki emphasized that no power in the world can prevent the Palestinians, Muslims, and Christians as one from carrying out their national obligation to defend their occupied capital, and said: 'There is no Palestinian state without Jerusalem.'
Zaki said that he is convinced that the statements of US President-elect [Donald] Trump that were used during the election campaign cannot be implemented on the ground in Palestine and noted that this trend appeared in the 1960s when [former Israeli Prime Minister David] Ben-Gurion proposed it in order to establish the occupation state in Jerusalem and to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque in order to establish the alleged Temple."

Headline: “The Supreme Muslim Council warned against transferring the American embassy to Jerusalem”
“[The independent organization] the Supreme Muslim Council warned today, Tuesday [Jan. 10, 2017], against the danger of transferring the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.  The Muslim Council said in a statement: ‘Transferring the embassy means official US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish state, and in this way the US will put itself in a situation of clear contradiction, because the US took on itself the patronage of the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, which necessitates postponing the discussion on the issue of Jerusalem until the final stage of the negotiations! And how does it now want to rule in the matter of transferring the embassy to Jerusalem!’ [...]
If the US transfers the embassy to Jerusalem, it declares war on the original residents of Palestine, and also on the Arabs and Muslims. Therefore, we declare our absolute opposition to transferring the embassy, and condemn the biased American policy in favor of ‘Israel.’”

Al-Husseini said today (Tuesday) [Dec. 13, 2016] in an interview with Radio Mawtini: 'The statements of [US President-elect] Donald Trump's advisor [Kellyanne Conway], according to which the new US president is examining the transfer of the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, constitute an indication of the policy of the new American administration in everything related to the Palestinian issue.'

PA daily op-ed: Israel “was established on a colonialist foundation and a fake mythical narrative… even before its establishment by the criminal Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration)”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Dec. 13, 2016
Op-ed by Omar Hilmi Al-Ghoul, regular columnist for the official PA daily

"The Israeli state - and I am not talking only about the existing political system - is a state that was established on a colonialist foundation and a fake mythical narrative, was aided by the Jewish immigration from a variety of nations, and was faked even before its establishment by the criminal Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) and incomparable capitalist Western support that continues to this day. If not for this, and if not for the political, diplomatic, military, financial/economic, and cultural aid, and the ongoing immigration, it would not have been established and would not continue to exist until now. This prelude is known to all members of the Palestinian people and to a large part of the Arab peoples and even the peoples of the world. Therefore, it does not constitute a new addition to the reader, but this creation and its racist elements can only lead to colonialist racist consequences, no matter how much the West will try to educate or to embellish the image of the distorted state. This is because the distorted birth of a strange creature will in the end lead to distorted data, whatever the clothing or cosmetics that a person, institution, state, or any other body may place on the face of this creature."

The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people” and is seen as the basis for later international commitments to establish the State of Israel.

Abbas advisor:"Israel is disturbed by the call to prayer because it reminds [Israel] five times a day that this land is Palestinian and a waqf that belongs only to the Muslims"

Headline: "Al-Habbash: The call to prayer will be sounded and our mosques are full of believers, despite the occupation's opposition"
"Supreme Shari’ah Judge and [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash condemned the steps of the occupation with all its institutions... especially in everything regarding the decision of the committee of Israeli government ministers to bring the bill banning the sounding of the call to prayer in the mosques to what is called the 'Israeli Parliament' for ratification.
In a press statement this evening (Monday) [Nov. 14, 2016], Al-Habbash described these steps as steps of oppression and a harsh blow to the freedom of worship… He clarified that these steps will lead the occupation and its leaders to the International Criminal Court as war criminals, especially after the latest resolutions of UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), according to which the Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount) is Islamic and the Old City of Jerusalem is an exclusively Islamic heritage [site]. He added that Israel has gone crazy in the wake of UNESCO's latest resolutions…
The supreme shari’ah judge emphasized: 'Our mosques will remain full of believers, and no one in this world will be able to silence the call to prayer as long as there is one Palestinian on this land.' He noted: 'Our mosques precede the occupation state; it has never happened and will never happen that they will not sound the call to prayer.' Likewise, he clarified: 'Israel is disturbed by the call to prayer because it reminds [Israel] five times a day that this land is Palestinian and a waqf (i.e., an inalienable religious endowment in Islamic law) that belongs only to the Muslims."

PA TV discounts archaelogical find as a "forgery": Israel "fabricates lies" as part of plan to "build the alleged Temple in place of the Al-Aqsa Mosque"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Oct. 29, 2016
Official PA TV News, on Israeli archaeologists casting doubt on the authenticity of the newly found papyrus from 700 BCE on which is written "Jerusalem" in ancient Hebrew script
Official PA TV reporter: "The Israeli media is attempting to use a document which is said to be a certificate on which is written in the ancient Hebrew script 'Jerusalem,' and which was found four years ago. According to the story, Israel attempts to fabricate lies and to find proof of them or to write what it wants about them (i.e., the finds) in order to impose the Israeli plan that aspires to build the alleged Temple in place of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Here begins the story, in the middle of the West Bank desert (i.e., Judean Desert) a piece of papyrus form the 7th century BCE is found, and according to the claims it is a certificate for the transfer of a certain type of wine that was sent by the king from the town of Na’arata in the Jordan Valley, north of Jericho... The thief who claims that Israel has a history through his pursuit of antiquities thieves – is looking for the first market to display what he stole. Thus also [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu, who is attempting to stand in the path of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) after the slap on the cheek he received last week. Against the background of events that have shaken the Israeli archaeologists regarding the level of reliability due to the precedents of forgery of documents with ancient tools and years of excavations, one of the Israeli archaeologists comes out, Israel Finkelstein [from Tel Aviv University], who denies the presence of any connection of the Jews to Jerusalem, or even any archaeological evidence pointing to the location where the Temple was located (sic., see note)."

He added: ‘We thank all of the states in UNESCO who supported us, and the leadership is determined to continue with activities of this type. We clarify that the importance of these resolutions is expressed in how they exposed the lies of Israel, and torpedoed the occupation authorities’ words regarding the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall) and what they term “the historical right.”’
Shtayyeh continued: ‘The latest UNESCO resolutions have torpedoed the excuses for talk about their right to a “Jewish state,” and showed that the Jews do not have a historical right to the land of Palestine.’
He said: ‘Ever since the occupation in 1967, they are excavating day and night without finding anything regarding the alleged Temple (sic., numerous archaeological relics from the Temple have been found), which has caused them to place fake graves. Likewise, they brought ancient floor tiles in an attempt to claim that they were Jewish graves, but the falsehood of its (i.e., Israel’s) stories is well known.'”
