Jerusalem under assault
"Judaization" of Jerusalem
Jerusalem under assault
In 2009 the Palestinian Authority has initiated an unprecedented campaign of historical revision and anti-Israel libels concerning Jerusalem, the focal point being the erasure and denial of 3,000 years of Jewish history in Jerusalem.

In addition, the PA disseminates the libel that Israel is acting both to expel Arabs from Jerusalem and to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Jerusalem libels are designed to evoke religious hatred by portraying Israel and the Jews as a threat to Arabs and Islam.

This section documents the recent intensification of the Palestinian Authority's campaign of distortion, historical revision and hate incitement surrounding Jerusalem.

[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, official PA daily, Feb 24, 2009]
"Judaization" of Jerusalem
Since Jews are said to have no connection to Jerusalem, nor any right to live in the city, any Israeli action in Jerusalem is defined as "Judaization" and an attempt to erase the city's supposedly authentic Islamic Arab character. The PA has launched an incendiary libel campaign which presents as fact the lie that Israel is acting to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to expel Arabs from the city. The goal of this PA alarmist campaign is to promote fear and hatred of Jews and Israelis.

[It should be noted that the PA allegation that Israel is pursuing a policy of ridding Jerusalem of its Arab inhabitants is blatantly untrue. In fact, according to May 2009 statistics released by the Jerusalem Center for Israel Studies, since Israel’s liberation of all of Jerusalem in the 1967 Six Day War, Jerusalem's Jewish population has increased by 186%, with the Arab population of east Jerusalem growing by 291%, almost twice the growth rate of the Jewish population.]
PA Islamic-Christian Council slams Israeli minister’s dress, says it’s a further attempt to ‘Judaize’ Jerusalem

Headline: “The Islamic-Christian Council warns: Judaization drawings on an Israeli minister’s dress”

“The [PA] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places today, Thursday [May 18, 2017], said that the fact that Israeli Minister of Culture and Sport Miri Regev wore a dress on which was printed pictures of Jerusalem, and particularly of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock, during her attendance of the opening ceremony of the 70th international film festival at Cannes constitutes a continuation of the Israeli occupation’s policy that is based on Judaizing Jerusalem and its holy sites, imposing its rule on them, and misleading the world through all ways and means [to think] that they have a right to them.
The council emphasized in its statement that Israel is still continuing to be an instrument for disseminating lies and false claims regarding its right to Jerusalem and the holy sites. It noted that the fact that Regev wore a dress on which were printed pictures of the holy sites is a step meant to emphasize that ‘Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.’”

It will be only ours, Palestinians’ and Muslims’, and the Jews have no right to it.’
[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and [Palestinian] Supreme Fatwa Council Chairman Sheikh Muhammad Hussein… praised those carrying out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) in Jerusalem and at the Ibrahimi Mosque, and mentioned the attack against the buildings and plazas of the destination of the Night Journey of [Allah’s] Messenger (i.e., the Al-Aqsa Mosque), blessings and peace be upon him, as well as against those visiting it. PA Islamic-Christian Council warns against "Judaization attacks" and "excavation of the tunnels underneath the foundations of the mosque, which places it in danger of collapse"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Apr. 24, 2017
Headline: “The Islamic-Christian Council blesses our people for the Anniversary of the Night Journey”
“The [PA] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places yesterday [April 23, 2017] blessed the Muslims in general and the Palestinians in particular for the Anniversary of [Muhammad’s] Night Journey. It warned against the danger surrounding Jerusalem in light of the Judaization plans and Judaization attacks being carried out by the occupation authorities and their extremist organizations…
In its statement, the Council warned against the Judaization and destruction that the holy plaza of Jerusalem is undergoing, as the invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque for Talmudic (i.e., Jewish) prayer and dances have become daily, in addition to the continued excavation of the tunnels underneath the foundations of the mosque, which places it in danger of collapse.”

The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an “invasion.” It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.

PA Minister of Religious Affairs claims Israel desecrates Al-Aqsa, "Judaizes" Jerusalem, and "attempts to steal our heritage and culture"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Apr. 4, 2017
Headline: “Ida’is: 99 Israeli violations of freedom of worship”
“[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida’is warned against the dangers of the occupation’s actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque…
The minister of religious affairs explained that those who are called ‘the alleged Temple organizations’ have strengthened their calls to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque plazas (i.e., the Temple Mount) during the Hebrew Passover holiday and sacrifice Passover sacrifices there…
He said that the steps that the occupation government is carrying out have begun to move to the most dangerous stage for the future of the holy city [of Jerusalem] by giving a green light to the settlers and extremist Jews to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque, to do as they will in its holy plazas and to carry out shameful acts that desecrate the sanctity of the site (See note below –Ed.)…
Ida’is explained that in the shadow of the Arab and Islamic silence and international conspiracy, the Zionist occupation authorities are continuing their plans to erode occupied Jerusalem and take all of the Islamic characteristics from it while using all of the arbitrary means to Judaize the city and expel the original [Arab] Jerusalem residents from it: taking control of the lands and establishing settlements on them, the continuation of the excavations under our blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque… and the many attempts to steal our heritage and culture – and this is not the first time: a Jewish ‘archaeologist’ attempted to steal a stone from the ancient Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

PA Islamic-Christian Council warns of Israeli "plot to Judaize the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, in preparation for the dream of the Jews to establish the Temple on its ruins"
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Apr. 3, 2017
Headline: “The [PA] Islamic-Christian Council: Public calls to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque”
“The [PA] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places today, Monday [April 3, 2017], warned against the attempts of the ‘alleged Temple organizations’ to call on settlers to broadly participate in group invasions of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque starting this Thursday, in preparation for large events for the Hebrew Passover holiday in the middle of the this month.
The council said in a statement that the daily invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque plazas by dozens of extremists under the protection of the occupation forces are part of the Israeli occupation state’s progress in its plot to Judaize the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, in preparation for the dream of the Jews to establish the Temple on its ruins.”

"Alleged Temple organizations" refer to religious Jewish movements including the Temple Mount Heritage Foundation, The Initiative for Jewish Freedom on the Temple Mount and Students for the Temple Mount, which spread awareness of the importance of the Temple Mount in Judaism and encourage people to visit the site. Preceding the Purim holiday, religious websites such as the Temple Mount News website [Feb. 23, 2015] announced a "special visit" to the Temple Mount, which was expected to draw "masses of Jews."

Saidam briefed Piper regarding the recommendations of the workshop that the ministry held recently on this topic. He emphasized that it is necessary to provide urgent protection to the Palestinian schools, and particularly those in Jerusalem, which are subject to processes of Israelization, Judaization, and a distortion of the contents of national identity.”

He also noted the importance of noting the anniversaries of the leaders and Martyrs, and called for Land Day to constitute a stage of struggle in the confrontation against tyranny, settlement, and the situation of division (i.e., between Fatah and Hamas), and the beginning of the national awakening for liberation....
Mother of Martyr Abd Al-Hamid Abu Sorour (i.e., suicide bomber, injured 21) gave a speech on behalf of the Martyrs’ families, in which she said: ‘The Martyrs are lovers of the land. They died to defend the freedom and honor of the homeland and the rights of the Palestinian people, and for exalted goals. PA TV segment on “Judaization” of Jerusalem, claims Israel trying to give city “fictional Jewish character,” and to rid Jerusalem of Arabs
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Mar. 23, 2017
Official PA TV announcer: “The Judaization of Jerusalem – a concept meaning all of the Israeli occupation’s attempts whose goal is to erase the Arab Islamic identity and change the Arab and Islamic characteristics that represent the true cultural face of the occupied Arab city of Jerusalem, and to stamp it with a new fictional character that is called the Jewish character through the Israeli occupation. History does not recall that any city has been subjected to attempts to erase and change its characteristics, identity, and history through forgery, change, nonsense, and false claims in the way that the city of Jerusalem is subject to them. In addition, settlers are brought to the city, and the city is flooded with settlements both within the city and outside it. At the same time they are confining the steps of the [Arab] residents of the city, expelling them from it, and pushing them outside of its boundaries by using different forms of harassment and punishment..”

Fatah: Israel is carrying out "summary executions," striving to "Judaize what remains of Jerusalem"
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Mar. 16, 2017
Headline: “Fatah’s Jerusalem branch: The occupation is striving to Judaize what remains of Jerusalem”
“The Fatah Movement’s Jerusalem branch said today, Thursday [March 16, 2017], that the occupation government and its executive branches are striving with all of their energy to Judaize what remains of occupied Jerusalem…
[Fatah Secretary in Jerusalem Adnan] Ghaith emphasized: ‘These steps against the people only strengthen our resolve to be rid of the occupation and its crimes, whatever the sacrifices may be.’
In the same context, the Jerusalem branch noted that the occupation government is carrying out summary executions and arrest campaigns against the members of our Palestinian people on the pretext that they intend to carry out Martyrdom-seeking operations (i.e., terror attacks) even though it could avoid this, and this is proof of the green light that the occupation government has given to its forces to kill everything that is Arab.”

Red Cross rebuts Palestinian claims that Israel commits “executions” and is an “apartheid state” – Jacques De Maio, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation to Israel and the Palestinian Authority, rejected claims that Israel carries out “extrajudicial killings” or is an "apartheid state" in an interview with the Israeli news site Ynet on April 26, 2017. De Maio said: “We came to the unequivocal conclusion that there are no shoot to kill orders of suspects by IDF (i.e., the Israeli army), as some political elements tried to convince us. Rules of engagement have not changed, and became even stricter.”

Abbas advisor: Israel's "satanic power that is directed against our people in Jerusalem is unprecedented in human history"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Mar. 8, 2017
Official PA TV program Buy Time in Jerusalem, on the Palestinian legal battle for Jerusalem, hosting PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor on Strategic Affairs Dr. Husam Zomlot
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor on Strategic Affairs Dr. Husam Zomlot: “If you visit the website of the government of Israel, you will clearly see their plan for Jerusalem. This is a legitimization operation that begins with dismantling - dismantling from above [by] landing a blow on the leadership [of the Palestinians in Jerusalem] which they began in the 1980s and 1990s, closing the Orient House (i.e., the PLO headquarters in Jerusalem), and what happened with Martyr (Shahid) Faisal Al-Husseini (i.e., senior Fatah and PLO terror leader in the 1970s). [They also began] dismantling from below, namely [through] unemployment, young men, drugs, etc., and they are doing this morning and night. In other words, the satanic power that is directed against our people in Jerusalem is unprecedented in human history, every morning – millions of dollars, hundreds of millions, are poured in to dismantle and to weaken [it].”

PA government: Israel is working to "Judaize" Jerusalem and "shake the foundations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Mar. 8, 2017
"During its weekly meeting, which was held yesterday in Ramallah, led by [PA] Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah… the [PA] government emphasized that the decision of the Israeli magistrate court in occupied Jerusalem - according to which the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a holy site for Jews and they have a right to pray there - is an invalid decision. This decision was issued by the occupation's court in an attempt to provide a legal character to the justification of the extremists’ attacks and the daily invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to render valid the occupation’s crimes against Jerusalem and the sites holy to Islam and Christianity...
In addition, this is also about the exposure of the falsehood of the Israeli narrative, with which the occupation has been misleading global public opinion and the international community for many decades, and which it has attempted to impose with military force from the first day of the occupation of the holy city. Today, it attempts this through a decision by the occupation's court... to escalate it as part of its policy to Judaize the holy city - the same policy whose latest expression was carrying out construction work in the area of the Umayyad palaces adjacent to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. This was not in an attempt to prove any right of the Jews there, as they have already failed to do so despite the excavations that have taken place since the occupation of Jerusalem in 1967, but rather only to shake the foundations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and cause cracks in its walls."

“Fatah Revolutionary Council member and Secretary-General of the [PA] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places Hanna Issa said that the goal of the destruction and excavation activities that the occupation state authorities are conducting in the Old City [of Jerusalem] and the Al-Aqsa Mosque is to change the Islamic-Christian Arab character of the holy city and to create a Jewish character for it.
Issa said in an interview with Radio Mawtini today, Monday [Feb. 27, 2017]: ‘The excavation and destruction activities of the occupation authorities in the holy city and around and under the Al-Aqsa Mosque are part of a calculated plan that is meant to shake the foundations of the mosque, and to change the Islamic-Christian Arab character of the holy city and to create a Jewish character for it.’ He emphasized that the occupation government will fail to achieve its goals even though it is fighting against time to realize this goal.
Issa warned against the occupation government’s attempts to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque through its ongoing excavations in order to build its alleged Temple. He emphasized that it will not succeed in achieving what it wants, despite all of its attempts to impose its rule on the holy city.”

Source: Donia Al-Watan (independent Palestinian news agency), Feb. 15, 2017
Headline: “Abu Al-Amarin: The crimes that the settlers are committing are a systematic policy”

“Director-General of the Jerusalem Department in the [PA] Ministry of Religious Affairs Abu Al-Amarin emphasized that the Israeli crimes that the settlers and extremist groups are perpetrating are a systematic policy and precise plans that the occupation government, led by right-wing extremist [Israeli Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu, is conducting in order to Judaize Jerusalem and empty it of its [Arab] residents…
He noted that the Israeli invasions and the Talmudic (i.e., Jewish) ceremonies within the Al-Aqsa Mosque (i.e., on the Temple Mount) herald a large and unprecedented danger, and said: ‘If the settlers and the extremist groups do not stop this, they will find their deaths at the hands of the Muslims there, who will not allow the enemy to harm the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to defile it, even if it costs them their lives.’”

PLO official calls for intifada in response to Israel's "policy" of "Judaizing Jerusalem"
Source: Donia Al-Watan (independent Palestinian news agency), Jan. 23, 2017
Headline: “Abu Yusuf: It is impossible to return to negotiations under American auspices”
“Secretary[-General] of the Palestinian Liberation Front and PLO Executive Committee member Wasel Abu Yusuf said that if the US transfers its embassy to Jerusalem, it will express contempt for all of the international decisions, international law, and the Geneva Conventions that apply to all of the territories that were occupied in 1967.
In an interview with the press, Abu Yusuf warned against the consequences of transferring the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, because this will ignite a war in the region, and demanded that the Arab states take a stand regarding the transfer of the American embassy, including cutting relations with the American administration.
Abu Yusuf called to develop the popular resistance (term here refers to events that include violence against Israeli civilians such as rock-‎throwing, stabbings, and even shootings -Ed.)‎, and to strengthen the intifada against the occupation and all of its plans and policies, prime among them the policy of settlement and Judaizing Jerusalem, on the way to ending the occupation and rescuing our people’s rights of return, freedom, and independence.”

Headline: "At the end of the events of the Seventh [Fatah] Conference, Fatah is unified behind its leadership"

"Fatah Revolutionary Council member Muhammad Al-Namourah, who heads the membership committee of the [Fatah] Mobilization and Organization Commission said… regarding the internal situation of Fatah: ‘Undoubtedly the movement’s new leadership will concentrate its efforts in the coming period on awakening the movement after the [Seventh Fatah] Conference, as this period requires the awakening of all of the Fatah frameworks, so that they will all be able to carry the burdens of the coming period, which is one of the most difficult periods that has befallen our Palestinian issue. This is especially so in light of the fact that there is an enemy that is lying in wait for us, hurrying [to expand] the settlement in its ugliest forms, denying the Palestinian rights, and making efforts to Judaize the land and Jerusalem. Therefore, the coming period must be a period of reviving the popular resistance (i.e., term used by Palestinians that include the use of violence) so that it will include all of the Palestinian territories in order to press this occupation in order to achieve our Palestinian national rights.’"

Fatah official: "Transfer of the US embassy to Jerusalem means the end of the two-state solution and the end of any future negotiations"
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, Jan. 18, 2017
Headline: “Shtayyeh: We, Jordan, and all of the Arabs constitute a united front against the Judaization of Jerusalem”
“Fatah Central Committee member Muhammad Shtayyeh said… as he received Jordanian Ambassador to Palestine Khaled Al-Shawabkeh in his office on Wednesday [Jan. 18, 2017]… ‘The possible transfer of the US embassy to Jerusalem means the end of the two-state solution and the end of any future negotiations, and it contradicts the position of successive American administrations.’ He also noted that American presidents before [US President-elect Donald] Trump have declared their intention to transfer the embassy, but they acted wisely and did not carry out their promises. Shtayyeh continued: ‘We want everyone to use all of their political and diplomatic opportunities to prevent the execution of the decision; Jerusalem is one of the issues of the permanent solution, and the [UN] Security Council Resolution [2334] considered it a Palestinian city.’”

UN Security Council Resolution 2334 was passed on Dec. 23, 2016, by a vote of 14-0 with one abstention.
The resolution condemned the establishment of Israeli "settlements in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem," saying it "has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law and a major obstacle to the achievement of the two-State solution and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace." Fatah branch secretary: US embassy move will "lead to the destruction of the peace process and to an explosion of all of the agreements"

Headline: "The Jerusalem branch [of Fatah] demands an international deterrent position on what is happening in Jerusalem"
"The Jerusalem branch of the Fatah Movement yesterday [Jan. 14, 2017] demanded an international, Arab, and Islamic deterrent position in order to dissuade the occupation from its attacks and violations against everything Palestinian in the occupied capital. This was said by Fatah Jerusalem [Branch] Secretary Adnan Ghaith who demanded a tough and firm position [be taken against it] in order to prevent the transfer of the American embassy to Jerusalem. He warned against the determination of US President-elect Donald Trump to transfer the embassy, and said that this step will lead to the destruction of the peace process and to an explosion of all of the agreements and decisions that were ratified on the matter. He added: 'For a long time the US has been an inseparable part of the sponsorship for signing peace agreements, and here, today, through this decision, it defends the occupation and makes different decisions than those agreed upon in the past. This contradicts all of the international decisions, conventions, and norms, and the entire world – and primarily the US and the occupation – must bear the results of this step and others.’"
