Jerusalem under assault
"Judaization" of Jerusalem
Jerusalem under assault
In 2009 the Palestinian Authority has initiated an unprecedented campaign of historical revision and anti-Israel libels concerning Jerusalem, the focal point being the erasure and denial of 3,000 years of Jewish history in Jerusalem.

In addition, the PA disseminates the libel that Israel is acting both to expel Arabs from Jerusalem and to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Jerusalem libels are designed to evoke religious hatred by portraying Israel and the Jews as a threat to Arabs and Islam.

This section documents the recent intensification of the Palestinian Authority's campaign of distortion, historical revision and hate incitement surrounding Jerusalem.

This cartoon with the caption "Judaization of Jerusalem" shows, from right to left, a sinister-looking Jew first sharing the chair with an Arab and then shoving him off.
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, official PA daily, Feb 24, 2009]
"Judaization" of Jerusalem
Since Jews are said to have no connection to Jerusalem, nor any right to live in the city, any Israeli action in Jerusalem is defined as "Judaization" and an attempt to erase the city's supposedly authentic Islamic Arab character. The PA has launched an incendiary libel campaign which presents as fact the lie that Israel is acting to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to expel Arabs from the city. The goal of this PA alarmist campaign is to promote fear and hatred of Jews and Israelis.

[It should be noted that the PA allegation that Israel is pursuing a policy of ridding Jerusalem of its Arab inhabitants is blatantly untrue. In fact, according to May 2009 statistics released by the Jerusalem Center for Israel Studies, since Israel’s liberation of all of Jerusalem in the 1967 Six Day War, Jerusalem's Jewish population has increased by 186%, with the Arab population of east Jerusalem growing by 291%, almost twice the growth rate of the Jewish population.]
PA TV: Israel is “Judaizing” Palestine, committing acts of “forgery and robbery” against holy sites, and “steals our Canaanite heritage”

Official PA TV program The Occupied Capital, on heritage and folklore

Official PA TV host: “The Palestinian heritage refuses to undergo Judaization, despite the terror of the occupation that attempts to harm our heritage and Judaize it. Palestine, with its people, its land, its history, its trees, and everything within it – it is the faithful protector of our heritage, and it is waging a daily struggle against the occupation, at a time when Israel does not cease its acts of forgery and robbery against the Muslim and Christian holy sites and the antiquities sites - which are the required basis for heritage and national culture - and steals our Canaanite heritage.”

Fatah added in its announcement: ‘We adhere to our people’s right to legitimate resistance, and continue mobilizing and organizing our national ranks, in order to fight the plan to Judaize Jerusalem and its holy sites. [We continue] in resistance in order to fight the crimes of the occupation army, the settlers, and the summary executions… alongside our campaign in the arena of international law.’”
PA TV casts doubt on archaeological find by "antiquities thieves," host scoffs at "Netanyahu's lie"

Official PA TV program Palestine This Morning, review of Palestinian media, review of Israeli media with Israeli affairs expert Fayez Abbas
Israeli affairs expert Fayez Abbas: "Yesterday [Oct. 26, 2016] they published something interesting, that they found among antiquities thieves in the Hebron area a papyrus parchment on which is written in ancient Hebrew script 'Yerushalma' (i.e., Jerusalem), in other words Al-Quds (i.e., Jerusalem). This is the first time in the history of Israel that they find – according to their claims – a historical artifact that mentions Al-Quds (sic., it is the earliest non-biblical source to mention Jerusalem in Hebrew script).'
Official PA TV host: "Only yesterday!"
Fayez Abbas: "Yesterday, and [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu personally went [to the media] with a picture of it and said – and all that was written [on the parchment] has disappeared except for this sentence: 'Dates, date wine, from the [Jordan] Valley region to Al-Quds' (sic., the parchment reads: “From the king’s maidservant, from Na’arata, jars of wine, to Jerusalem”)"
Host: "Even the photographers related to this matter and they are laughing at Netanyahu's lie."
Fayez Abbas: "What is this talk? And it was 700 BCE, what is this talk?"
Host: "And the amazing coincidence in timing."
Fayez Abbas: "It is a message to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization)! He [Netanyahu] is free [to do that], but he is a liar. There is no disagreement on that. There is no disagreement between me and you that he is a liar."

Fatah: UNESCO resolution ignoring Jewish connection to the Temple Mount recognizes that the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Western Wall belong “exclusively to Muslims,” disregards “Judaizing” names
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Oct. 26, 2016

"Fatah's Jerusalem branch welcomed the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) resolution to recognize the Al-Aqsa Mosque as a site of worship that belongs exclusively to Muslims, and that the Western Wall is the western wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque / the Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount), as opposed to what the occupation authorities claim through Judaizing names, and this (i.e., the recognition) is in addition to the non-recognition of the term 'the Temple Mount.'"

PA Minister of Religous Affairs: "Muslims alone have an absolute right to the Al-Aqsa Mosque with all its plazas... Jerusalem will remain Islamic"

"[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida’is called to create a practical plan for the aid and defense of Jerusalem and the holy sites from the ongoing Israeli violations they are being subjected to under racist pretexts full of hatred and racism…
Likewise, he emphasized that the Israeli project to Judaize Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque will not be realized, as the Muslims alone have an absolute right to the Al-Aqsa Mosque with all its plazas and halls and everything within it, and Jerusalem will remain Islamic and the occupation will not steal its identity from it, no matter what it does."
Fatah official appreciates UNESCO resolution during "difficult period in which the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem are subjected to the dangers of Judaization and ... even ethnic cleansing"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 20, 2016
Headline: “Hamad expressed appreciation for the UNESCO resolution to recognize Jerusalem as an Islamic heritage”
“Fatah Central Committee member Amal Hamad said that the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) resolution to recognize East Jerusalem as a pure Islamic heritage is a return of the right to its owner, a slap on the cheek of the Israeli occupation, and a refuting of its claims that it has been marketing for many decades through its enormous communications mechanism.
Hamad added that this resolution is very important, particularly in this difficult period in which the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem are subjected to the dangers of Judaization and settlement, and even to ethnic cleansing.
She emphasized that the resolution comes in order to limit the arrogance of the occupation, and the continuation of its seizing control over everything that is Palestinian and the theft of Islamic history and culture in the holy city [of Jerusalem].”

UNESCO passed a resolution in Paris on “Occupied Palestine” on Oct. 13, 2016, with 24 countries voting in favor, 6 against, and 24 abstentions. The resolution was later approved by UNESCO's World Heritage Committee on Oct. 26, 2016, in a secret ballot in which ten countries voted in favor of the resolution, two opposed, eight abstained, and one country, Jamaica, was absent.
In the resolution UNESCO refers to the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism, only as “Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif,” and presents it only as a “Muslim holy site.” For more details about the resolution, click "full article."
PA Ministry of Culture appreciates UNESCO resolution in face of "crazy Israeli attempts to Judaize Jerusalem and its identity”

“The [PA] Ministry of Culture expressed appreciation for the resolution of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) regarding the adoption of a resolution proposal about the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque (the Noble Sanctuary) [parentheses in original] (i.e., the Temple Mount) and the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall), and defense of the Palestinian heritage and the extraordinary nature of Jerusalem…
The ministry said today [Oct. 18, 2016] in a statement that this resolution can establish the Palestinian national and historical rights, and particularly in the capital of Jerusalem, and can strengthen the cultural and heritage presence in it, which constitutes a victory for the original owners of the right and the land and for the Palestinian narrative that cannot be erased or forged, despite all of the crazy Israeli attempts to Judaize Jerusalem and its identity.”

UNESCO passed a resolution in Paris on “Occupied Palestine” on Oct. 13, 2016, with 24 countries voting in favor, 6 against, and 24 abstentions.
In the resolution UNESCO refers to the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism, only as “ Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif,” and presents it only as a “Muslim holy site.” The resolution condemns “escalating Israeli aggressions” and Israeli “violations” at the site, and calls on Israel “to respect the integrity, authenticity and cultural heritage of Al-Aq?a Mosque/Al-?aram Al-Sharif… as a Muslim holy site of worship.”

Fatah spokesperson justifies terror attack in Jerusalem as Palestinian response to "Israel’s policy of murder and summary executions"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 11, 2016
Headline: “Fatah: The occupation government bears responsibility for the Palestinian responses”
“Fatah spokesman Fayiz Abu Aita emphasized that the occupation government alone bears responsibility for the consequences of the Palestinian responses. He emphasized that the Israeli government’s sponsorship of terror, settlement, harming the holy city [of Jerusalem], Judaization, Israelization, and all of these steps, will lead to additional Palestinian responses.
Abu Aita’s statements came in response to the Jerusalem operation (i.e., terror attack, 2 murdered). He said: ‘[Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu must understand that security and stability will not be achieved until the legitimate rights of our people are achieved, and primarily Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state.’ Abu Aita added that Israel’s policy of murder and summary executions, the expropriation of land for settlements, and the harming of the holy sites will not dissuade our people from defending legitimate rights.”

Musbah Abu Sbeih – 39-year-old Palestinian terrorist who murdered 2 Israelis and wounded 5 others in 3 drive-by shooting attacks in Jerusalem on Oct. 9, 2016. Abu Sbeih, who held Israeli residency status, began his shooting spree at the Ammunition Hill light rail stop and continued to the Shimon Hatzadik neighborhood. He was killed in an exchange of fire with Israeli border police officers during the attack. On the morning of the attack, Abu Sbeih was due to turn himself in to begin a 4 month jail sentence, after being convicted in January 2015 on numerous counts of inciting to terror and supporting a terror organization. On his Facebook page, Abu Sbeih praised terror groups including Hamas as well as terrorists who carried out attacks and actively called for attacks against Israelis.
PLO accuses Israel of “systematic acts of Judaization,” “organized terror” against Palestinians in Jerusalem, “particularly” in the Al-Aqsa Mosque
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 10, 2016
Headline: “The Department for Jerusalem Affairs condemned the occupation’s crimes against the residents of Jerusalem”
“The PLO Department for Jerusalem Affairs condemned the ongoing policy of summary assassinations that the occupation authorities are carrying out against the [Arab] citizens in Jerusalem, the latest of which was its shooting of young Musbah Abu Sbeih (i.e., terrorist, murdered 2, see note)...
The [PLO] department said yesterday [Oct. 9, 2016] in a press release: ‘The tension in Jerusalem and its escalation are a result of the policies and acts of the Israeli occupation, its ongoing violations, the systematic acts of Judaization, the settlements, and the theft of lands. All of these have caused and cause greater anger among our people, which defends its holy sites and its legal national rights against the occupation’s arrogance. The [PLO] department emphasized that our people will stand with all its might against this Israeli arrogance and the organized terror being perpetrated against our people standing firm in Jerusalem, and particularly in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

PA Grand Mufti: Jewish prayer in the Old City of Jerusalem is "blatant aggression against Muslims," Jews are attempting to "Judaize the Al-Aqsa Mosque
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 1, 2016
Headline: “The Mufti: The fact that the occupation’s courts allowed the settlers to pray in the Old City of Jerusalem constitutes a blatant attack against the Muslims”
“The [PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories Sheikh Muhammad Hussein described the decision of the Israeli occupation’s courts to allow the Jewish settlers to pray in the Old City of Jerusalem and in the area of the Al-Aqsa Mosque gates (apparently referring to a Jerusalem District Court decision on Sept. 13, 2016, allowing Jews to pray in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem –Ed.) as blatant aggression against Muslims.
The Grand Mufti said yesterday [Sept. 30, 2016] in his Friday sermon at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque that ‘None of our people obey the decisions published by official bodies of the occupation, or believe them…’
Likewise he called on the Palestinian people to unite around the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to come to it so that it will remain packed full of Muslims throughout the days and years, and in order to fend off the calls of the settler groups that are acting to Judaize the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem.”

On Sept. 13, 2016, the Jerusalem District Court issued a decision allowing Jews to pray in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. This decision was issued as a result of an appeal by three girls who had been banned from entering the Muslim Quarter after police arrested them for praying there, and in light of the Israeli police’s recent policy of preventing Jews from praying in the Muslim Quarter.
PA Council warns: "Alleged Temple organizations to hold group invasions of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Sept. 30, 2016
Headline: “The Islamic-Christian Council warns: Extremist calls for group invasions [of Jews] of the Al-Aqsa Mosque”
“The [PA’s] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places said yesterday [Sept. 29, 2016] that the call of the coalition of Alleged Temple organizations to hold group invasions of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque during the season of Jewish holidays in the month of October constitutes an emphasis of the provocative policy that the occupation authorities, their settlers, and their extremist organizations are adopting. Likewise, the council noted that this desecration of the holy sites is not the first violation, but rather one of the systematic Judaization steps [being taken against] the [Al-Aqsa] Mosque.”

The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an “invasion.” It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.

"Alleged Temple organizations" refer to religious Jewish movements including the Temple Mount Heritage Foundation, The Initiative for Jewish Freedom on the Temple Mount and Students for the Temple Mount, which spread awareness of the importance of the Temple Mount in Judaism and encourage people to visit the site. Preceding the Purim holiday, religious websites such as the Temple Mount News website [Feb. 23, 2015] announced a "special visit" to the Temple Mount, which was expected to draw "masses of Jews."

Headline: “Al-Aqsa preacher: The fact that the occupation allows settlers to do what they want everywhere in Jerusalem constitutes an attack against the holy city”
“[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and preacher at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein said that the fact that the Israeli occupation forces are intentionally spilling the blood of Palestinians, and of youth in particular, constitutes arrogance and violation of all international law. Likewise, he said that the fact that the occupation authorities allow settlers to pray everywhere in Jerusalem constitutes an attack against the holy city.
Hussein, in an interview with Radio Mawtini today, Wednesday [Sept. 21, 2016], objected to them (i.e., Israelis) doing as they please with the land and the holy sites, and said: ‘The Israeli occupation violates all the international and humanitarian laws.’ Likewise, he expressed the objection of the Palestinians to the decision of the Israeli authorities to allow settlers to hold their prayers everywhere in the city of Jerusalem (apparently referring to a Jerusalem District Court decision on Sept. 13, 2016, allowing Jews to pray in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem –Ed.).”

“The occupation wants to tell the Jewish Talmudic false myth” The Al-Aqsa Mosque will become “a brainwashing center for foreign visitors, and for spreading the narrative and Jewish myth”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Sept. 4, 2016

Silwan and Al-Bustan Neighborhood Defense Committee member Fakhri Abu Diab: The danger is to Jerusalem in general, and specifically to Silwan that is being heavily attacked. This massive Judaization project - in effect through it, the occupation wants to tell the Jewish Talmudic false myth at the expense of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and therefore [the project] is very close, only a few meters from the walls of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. In addition, it will become a security center and brainwashing center for the foreign visitors, and for spreading the narrative and Jewish myth.”

He added that the Central Committee emphasized the national, Arab, Islamic, and international responsibility to protect the sites holy to Islam and Christianity…
The Central Committee emphasized that there is no statute of limitations for the crime of burning the Al-Aqsa Mosque. It [the Committee] saluted the Murabitin (i.e., those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic) within it [the Mosque] and those defending it, who come out against the settlers’ violations, which are carried out right in front of the occupation army and police and under their guard.”

Fatah: Israel attempting to “Judaize East Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque”
Source: Website of Fatah's Information and ‎Culture Commission, Aug. 13, 2016

Headline: “Fatah: Our holy sites are a red line , and we will not allow them to be Judaized, the world must bear responsibility for the consequences”
“The Fatah Movement emphasized that the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the sites holy to Islam and Christianity are red lines and the settlers cannot ever be allowed to harm them.
[Fatah] Movement Spokesman Osama Al-Qawasmi: ‘The fact that a Jewish family from the settlement of Kiryat Arba held religious ceremonies at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza (i.e., memorial for terror victim Hallel Yaffa Ariel on the Temple Mount), and the settlers' repeated invasions of it, are a dangerous matter that heralds an explosion of the situation.’
Al-Qawasmi said that the attempts of the occupation state to Judaize East Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque constitute contempt for the international community and its laws. Likewise, he emphasized Fatah's opposition to the occupation's efforts to turn the invasions into a fait accompli, and recalled the Jerusalem uprising (i.e., several months of Palestinian terror attacks against Israelis 2015 - 2016) that came in order to express the opposition of the Palestinian people and its leadership to the harm to the sites holy to the Palestinian people.
Fatah demanded that the Arab and Muslim states fulfill their responsibilities, exert active pressure, and [demanded them] to speak in terms of interests with the world nations in order to pressure the occupation state, and it warned against ignoring the dangers and the bad and ominous consequences of the Judaization of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

PA daily: Israel imposes Israeli curriculum on Palestinian schools in Jerusalem as part of its “Judaization” and “falsification of history”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 10, 2016
Headline: "The occupation is trying to impose the Israeli curriculum on the schools in Al-Quds (i.e., Jerusalem)"

"The Israeli Ministry of Education is trying in every way to harm the Palestinian curriculum. Since the occupation of Al-Quds (i.e., Arab name for Jerusalem) in 1967 and until this day, it implements a number of methods and does everything in its power to control the minds of the Palestinian students and falsify the Palestinian history, and to change the face of the Arab and Islamic archeological remnants, in order to inculcate the Hebrew names in the minds of the Al-Quds students (i.e., Palestinian students).

Lately, the intention of the Israeli Ministry of Education to budget 20 million [Israeli] shekels for the renovation and building of classrooms, the renovation of [sport] fields, the installation of air conditioners, and the construction of labs and computer rooms - on the condition that the Israeli 'matriculation' curriculum be taught - was revealed.

Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee of Students' Parents Ziyad Al-Shamali revealed in an exclusive interview with Al-Hayat Al-Jadida new devious ways that the Israeli Ministry of Education is using to wipe out the Palestinian curriculum.

Al-Shamali clarified that according to the law, the allotment of these funds for renovations is not a privilege, but rather an obligation imposed on the occupation municipality, the Israeli Ministry of Education, and the Department of Education, as many of the schools in Al-Quds belong to them. However, today the standards have changed; money has become a type of temptation for the school administrations – meaning for private schools, which are targeted for the implementation of the Israeli curriculum even more than the municipality schools.

Al-Shamali emphasized that the Al-Quds Committee of Students' Parents will not allow these [schools], including as many as possible of the

Headline: “The Islamic-Christian Council: The distancing of guards and employees of the Al-Aqsa Mosque [from the mosque] is a racist policy whose goal is to empty it”
“The [PA’s] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places said yesterday [July 31, 2016] that the barbaric attack by the occupation authorities on the [Jordanian Waqf ] guards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Waqf employees who are there constitutes a clear blow to the Waqf and its employees, and an attempt to disrupt them in their work at the mosque in order to implement additional Judaization plans… Secretary-General of the Council Hanna Issa addressed the Israeli extremism, which is expressed in determining facts on the ground by Judaizing the Al-Aqsa Mosque and turning it into a synagogue, ahead of the establishment of the alleged Temple on its ruins. He noted that the Judaization plan and steps at the Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount) are gaining momentum, as if the Israeli occupation state – with the help of its settlers and extremists – is in a race against time to realize the Jewish dream: the establishment of the Temple as soon as possible.”
