Jerusalem under assault
"Judaization" of Jerusalem
Jerusalem under assault
In 2009 the Palestinian Authority has initiated an unprecedented campaign of historical revision and anti-Israel libels concerning Jerusalem, the focal point being the erasure and denial of 3,000 years of Jewish history in Jerusalem.

In addition, the PA disseminates the libel that Israel is acting both to expel Arabs from Jerusalem and to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Jerusalem libels are designed to evoke religious hatred by portraying Israel and the Jews as a threat to Arabs and Islam.

This section documents the recent intensification of the Palestinian Authority's campaign of distortion, historical revision and hate incitement surrounding Jerusalem.

This cartoon with the caption "Judaization of Jerusalem" shows, from right to left, a sinister-looking Jew first sharing the chair with an Arab and then shoving him off.
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, official PA daily, Feb 24, 2009]
"Judaization" of Jerusalem
Since Jews are said to have no connection to Jerusalem, nor any right to live in the city, any Israeli action in Jerusalem is defined as "Judaization" and an attempt to erase the city's supposedly authentic Islamic Arab character. The PA has launched an incendiary libel campaign which presents as fact the lie that Israel is acting to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to expel Arabs from the city. The goal of this PA alarmist campaign is to promote fear and hatred of Jews and Israelis.

[It should be noted that the PA allegation that Israel is pursuing a policy of ridding Jerusalem of its Arab inhabitants is blatantly untrue. In fact, according to May 2009 statistics released by the Jerusalem Center for Israel Studies, since Israel’s liberation of all of Jerusalem in the 1967 Six Day War, Jerusalem's Jewish population has increased by 186%, with the Arab population of east Jerusalem growing by 291%, almost twice the growth rate of the Jewish population.]
Grand Mufti of Jerusalem: Israel Judaizes Jerusalem and plans to destroy Al-Aqsa Mosque
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Mar. 26, 2014
“The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein… said: ‘Considering the escalation of the occupation’s attack on Jerusalem in an attempt to completely Judaize it, obscure its Islamic characteristics, [and] lay hands on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque… in addition to the threat of destroying the Al-Aqsa Mosque to establish the alleged Temple on its ruins – Heaven forbid – we wish to emphasize our previous religious rulings on the matter [of visits to the mosque by non-Palestinian Muslims, which read] as follows:
a. The plazas, walls, buildings, courtyards, domes, colonnades and stone benches of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, everything underneath the Al-Aqsa Mosque and everything above it, are Waqf (an inalienable religious endowment in Islamic law) until Judgment Day, and the Muslims have an exclusive right to them, which they share with no one."

Official PA daily: "Judaization" of Jerusalem based on "myths and fables" continues
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Mar. 24, 2014
Op-ed by Baha Rahal
“The series of Judaization actions in Jerusalem has been going on since the beginning of the occupation of the city and since the Arab armies were defeated and fled the battlefield in June 1967, abandoning the land of the Mi'raj (Muhammad’s Ascent to Heaven) and the Resurrection of the Dead to the occupation, which has tightened its grip on the city and begun to put forth mendacious and absurd claims and to invent [things] based on myths and fables…
Alone, Jerusalem counts the time [remaining]; alone, it stands in confronting a merciless enemy, who doesn’t hesitate to implement its plans and policy against the Holy City. This policy is not confined to isolating the city with the racist wall or driving out the residents of Jerusalem, and does not stop with the demolishing of homes, but aims for the destruction of the Islamic and Christian holy places in order to construct their alleged Temple on the ruins of the houses of Allah and the places of worship. This is the real challenge undermining the stability of Jerusalem these days – at a time when we are hearing a few hesitant voices that condemn or denounce. We do not hear the voice of the majority in the Arab and Islamic world, or the world at large – a fact which the occupation state sees as a golden opportunity, especially in the wake of the so-called ‘Arab Spring,’ the fighting going on in several countries, the explosions and violence in Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, Yemen and other places. These days, the Arabs are split and divided… O brothers, o friends: There is no time to wait when [one is confronted] with an enemy racing against time. The time has come for you to desist from your old habit of condemning the occupation, which understands only the language of power.”
PA TV: Israel spreads drugs in an effort to "Judaize" Jerusalem
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Mar. 8, 2014
Official PA TV program Special Missions about drugs in Jerusalem.
The program hosted Dr. Husni Awad, a psychology lecturer at Al-Quds Open University.
Dr. Husni Awad: “Since occupying Jerusalem in 1967, Israel has made an effort to distribute drugs and to facilitate their distribution, especially in Jerusalem, and this is a link in a chain [of efforts] to Judaize Jerusalem – in other words, [to gain] control of it.”
PA TV host: “The occupation is the main factor behind the spread of the phenomenon [of drug use] in Jerusalem and its environs, and its purpose is to ruin the [young] generation and distract it from the causes it faces, first of all the resistance.”
PA minister denies Jewish history and complains of “Judaization” of Jerusalem
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Mar. 7, 2014
“[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash emphasized that the continuing settlement and Judaization of the holy city [Jerusalem], the attacks on its holy sites, the escalating Israeli aggression against Jerusalem, the falsifying of its history with the aim of erasing its cultural, human and historical heritage, and the demographic and geographic changes in the city are all moves that are null and void according to international law, the decisions of the international institutions, and the Geneva and Hague Conventions for the Protection of Cultural Property.
In addition, he warned again of the danger of the racist Israeli violations being planned against [the] Al-Aqsa [Mosque], the Ibrahimi Mosque (Cave of the Patriarchs), and the rest of our people’s holy sites, all of which confirm that Israel’s aim is to tighten its control over [the] Al-Aqsa [Mosque], in preparation for destroying it and building their alleged Temple.”

Israel's goal is Judaization of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem in preparation for building third Temple
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Mar. 1, 2014
Op-ed by Omar Hilmi Al-Ghoul, regular columnist for Al-Hayat Al-Jadida:
“The Israeli attack on [the] Al-Aqsa [Mosque] has crossed all political lines and is adding fuel to the flames of Palestinian public wrath, in order to ignite political fires and clothe them in religious garb. In addition, it complements and is consistent with the parallel, worrisome trend, that is meant to achieve several objectives, among them: … the exploitation of the Arabs’ present state of weakness in order to advance the process of the Judaization of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in particular and of Jerusalem as a whole, in preparation for the construction of the third Temple on its ruins.”
PA minister accuses Israel of goal to rule over Al-Aqsa; refuses to recognize Israel's "existence in Jerusalem"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Feb. 28, 2014
Official PA TV broadcast the Friday sermon from the Al-Tashrifat Mosque in the presidential compound. The sermon was delivered by PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash.
PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash: “In the occupation state (i.e., Israel), they are talking about a tale, about a lie and [the] insane [idea] of extending Israeli sovereignty to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. What sovereignty is this? Whoever told you we even recognize your existence in Jerusalem? Whoever said we recognize your right to even a single millimeter of the land of Jerusalem? Who said this? You even talk about [having] sovereignty over our hearts, over our faith, over our religion. Who said this? Who can imagine such insanity? This insanity will not end well. It will not end well; it will not lead to anything good. They must understand that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is not a red line. The Al-Aqsa Mosque is a line of fire that will burn any hand that may be extended towards it to harm it.”
PLO Executive Committee member: Israel pursues "racist Judaization measures against the Al-Aqsa Mosque"
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 27, 2014
“Ahmed Qurei, ‘Abu Alaa’, PLO Executive Committee member and Head of the Department for Jerusalem Affairs… said that Jerusalem is in a very difficult situation, which manifests itself in [the fact] that the occupation government has intensified its racist Judaization measures against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and increased the settlers’ invasions of its plazas, as well as the discovery and instruction tours they conduct inside it, during which they give lessons on the ‘alleged Temple’…
In addition, the head of the Department for Jerusalem Affairs rejected the criminal actions being perpetrated by the Israeli occupation authorities, which contradict all norms and international conventions: the ongoing excavations beneath the foundations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He emphasized that these excavations, deep underground, which target the foundations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, have been going on non-stop for years, to the point that a gigantic synagogue has been built beneath the Mosque.”
PA Council: Israel intends to Judaize Al-Aqsa, take it over and turn it into a synagogue
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 13, 2013
“The [PA’s Islamic-Christian] Council [for Jerusalem and the Holy Places] condemned the fact that the Israeli occupation police prevented engineers and workmen from the Islamic Trusts Department in occupied Jerusalem to do maintenance work on water supply sources that sustain the Al-Aqsa plazas, confiscated their equipment and forced them to leave the Mosque. It [the Council] also stressed that the Israeli intention to Judaize the Al-Aqsa Mosque in preparation for taking it over completely and turning it into a synagogue.”
Israeli peace deals are meant to “perpetuate [its] expansionist and Judaizing policies”
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 1, 2013
“The Ibrahim Abu Lughod Institute of International Studies at Birzeit University yesterday [Oct. 31, 2013] hosted Dr. Fouad Moughrabi, former head of the Department of International Relations and Political Psychology at the American University of Tennessee… [Moughrabi] later discussed discrimination and racial segregation as it exists in Palestine and under South African apartheid. He noted that segregation in Palestine, aimed at eliminating and excluding the Palestinian nation, is worse than what was carried out in South Africa, since the aim there [in South Africa] was not to get rid of the land’s original inhabitants. Dr. Moughrabi referred to the exclusion of the native inhabitants in North America by the European settlers to the exclusion of the native inhabitants in North America by the European settlers that was accomplished by isolating them geographically in separated tribes, after which constant efforts were made to erode the local residents’ identity by integrating them into modern societies through education, at times compulsory. He also noted that American settlers signed approximately 122 peace treaties with the native inhabitants, and did not abide by a single one of them. The opposite was the case, since the aim of the treaties was to strengthen colonialism, [territorial] expansion, and control over the original population. This is precisely what is happening in Palestine, since the aim of the agreements signed by Palestinians and Israelis is to perpetuate [Israel’s] expansionist and Judaizing policies in the area.”
PA Minister: Israel “uses forgery and fabrication” to give Jerusalem a “Jewish character”
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 30, 2013
“Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and District Governor [of Jerusalem] Adnan Al-Husseini briefed Australian Representative to the Palestinian Authority Tom Wilson … on Jerusalem’s and its residents’ situation, and explained that the arbitrary steps being taken by the occupation authorities have led to a paralysis of life in the holy city. He noted that the Israeli authorities are pushing their people to the abyss with the systematic desecration of holy Islamic and Christian sites, specifically the Al-Aqsa Mosque, while obviously ignoring the significance of this holy place for more than a billion Muslims. He further said that they use forgery and fabrication methods to alter the historical and religious facts, in order to actualize their false statements about the [city’s] Jewish character…
He explained that this systematic policy aims to make the city’s original residents emigrate, [both] Muslims and Christians.”
PA council: Israel turns Islamic sites into synagogues and Judaization centers
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 29, 2013
“[The PA’s] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places warned yesterday, Monday [Oct. 28, 2013], against a new Judaization plan aimed against the Al-Aqsa Mosque’s holiness, seeing that the Israeli occupation forces are seeking to turn an Islamic archaeological site near the Mosque into a Jewish ritual bath for women. [The ritual bath] will serve the Jewish women who break into the Al-Aqsa Mosque and desecrate it…
The Council's Secretary General, Dr. Hanna Issa said that this new plan, alongside hundreds of deliberate Judaization plans aimed against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and anything Arab in the occupied city of Jerusalem, serve as an Israeli means of Judaizing the Mosque. [This is done] by coordinated, increased efforts to dig tunnels beneath it, by taking hold of its Islamic sites, including its mosques and [holy] sites and turning them into synagogues and Judaization centers, [by] opening the gates of the Mosque to unrestrained extremists and settler herds so that they may desecrate it, and finally, by taking complete control of it in preparation for turning it into a synagogue for them and for building the alleged Temple on its ruins.”
PLO warns of Jerusalem municipality plan to “Judaize” the city
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 9, 2013
“The PLO’s Arab Relations Department called on the occupied capital’s residents to boycott the occupation municipality’s elections and oppose participating in them in any way, whether by voting or by submitting candidacy.
In a press release yesterday [Oct. 9, 2013], the department said that the Jerusalem occupation municipality is a fundamental part of the plan to settle and Judaize the city and that this matter is a distinct, basic national issue and not an issue of [giving] services that can be made use of. Likewise, it called to unite all efforts, both official and popular, in order to act with determination against any participation in these elections. The PLO said that calls to participate in these elections are a continuation of the Israeli occupation policy and expansion steps it uses against the occupied city of Jerusalem and its surroundings. This [occurs] after the struggle in the city has evolved from the ongoing struggle for land, properties, and religious and archaeological sites into a struggle for [national] awareness, identity and culture, while at the same time there is the ongoing home demolishing, uprooting the city’s original residents, carrying out an ethnic cleansing policy, implementing the Israeli curriculum in several schools, and calling on Jerusalem’s residents to do so-called ‘civil service.’”

PA Ministry of Culture warns of "Zionization" and "Judaization"
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 7, 2013
“Today is Palestinian Heritage Day, which is marked each year on October 7... The [PA] Ministry of Culture said in an announcement in honor of the event: ‘Our return to our heritage is a national duty and part of our long and arduous journey towards building a Palestinian state with original roots.’
It [the Ministry] added: ‘One after the other, colonialists and occupiers came at us, and our fathers had to struggle in order to remain, and we stand firm facing an occupier who attempts to destroy our national heritage, forge or steal it, thinking that stripping a nation of its heritage means making its national identity disappear and making its feelings of belonging to its homeland abate, and in this way eases [the process of] displacing and exiling it. Therefore, the battle to protect the heritage is at the heart of the overall conflict to remain, like the battle to defend lands, homes and the entire homeland.’
In addition, it [the Ministry] declared that it ‘would give special importance to Heritage Day this year by conducting programs and activities, in cooperation with our cultural and national organizations, that will assist the Popular Heritage Service and [assist] in protecting and guarding it (the heritage).’
The announcement noted that heritage in Palestine has been a victim of robbery, forgery, theft and obliteration for hundreds of years by Israel’s perpetual attempts to forge facts, steal the heritage and claim it unlawfully as its own.
Likewise, Zionization and Judaization of anything Palestinian is taking place, especially in Jerusalem and in the occupation’s territories of 1948 (i.e., Israel), such as [the Judaization of] clothing, food and songs. Even the Palestinian keffiyeh (Arab headdress) is presented in exhibitions as Israeli clothing, and so even Palestinian clothing is exhibited as Israeli clothing.”
Op-ed in PA daily: Israel has a “Judaizing policy” in Jerusalem
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Sept. 29, 2013
From an article by Najib al-Qaddumi entitled “On the anniversary of the Al-Aqsa Intifada”:
“This year the anniversary of the [outbreak] of the Al-Aqsa Intifada (PA terror campaign)… occurs when the threat to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque is most severe…
What is odd about this is that the Palestinian people has been abandoned and left alone to combat the Judaizing policy in the holy city and the openly declared intent of the Israeli authorities to build the alleged Temple in place of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the area beneath and around it having become completely hollowed out as a result of excavations..."
Jerusalem council: Perform Ribat at Al-Aqsa Mosque to defend against Judaization
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Sept. 16, 2013
Headline: “Islamic-Christian Council: Jerusalem is in the final phase of Judaization”
“Secretary-General of the [Islamic-Christian] Council [for Jerusalem], Dr. Hana Issa… noted that the occupation is conducting a crazed attack against the holy city, and the blessed [Al-Aqsa] Mosque in particular, as can be inferred from the ever-intensifying daily incursions into the mosque’s plaza and [Jews] conducting rituals and prayers relating to the alleged Temple [there]. In addition, he called on the Arabs to arouse from their deep sleep before it is too late, since Jerusalem is now in the final phase of being Judaized. Also, the Council called on all [those] who can, to come to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, or even just get near it, to perform Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) in order to thwart the Judaizing program that threatens it, for Al-Aqsa desperately needs help in light of the Judaizing menace and destruction it faces.”
Ma`an publishes different accounts of same story; accuses Israel of "Judaizing" Jerusalem
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Sept. 10, 2013
On the same day, the independent Palestinian news agency Ma’an posted two articles-- one in English and one in Arabic-- about the archaeological finding of ancient Jewish artifacts near the Temple Mount. While the English article reported only the Israeli archaeologists’ announcement about the find, the Arabic article quoted the Israeli-Arab Al-Aqsa Institute for Islamic Trusts and Heritage in denying the authenticity of the find. The Arabic article further claimed that Israeli archaeologists frequently plant forged artifacts in excavation sites for the purpose of “Judaizing the history of the area.”
Article in Arabic:

“The [Israeli Arab] Al-Aqsa Institute for Islamic Trusts and Heritage asserted: ‘Attempts to falsify archaeological artifacts and Islamic and Arab culture, for which the Israeli occupation branches led by the Israeli Antiquities Authority are responsible, are no more than plots and frauds that contradict the truth and whose purpose is to turn reality on the ground upside down.’ The institute was referring to archaeological finds [that include] a gold medallion with a Jewish menorah (candelabra) engraved on it, which they [the Israelis] said belongs to the Byzantine period... Lecturer Abd Al-Razeq Matani, an archaeologist at the Al-Aqsa Institute, said: ‘Day after day, Israeli archaeologists attempt to prove a historical right over Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque area, using unfounded and worthless evidence... Those who carry out excavations in the area of the Al-Aqsa Mosque are among the most ardent supporters of the Zionist ideology... Some of them supervised the major operations of Judaizing the history of the area of the Umayyad palaces and are known for using antiquities [for their purposes] and for eagerly trying to make the biblical story come true.’

Israel Judaizes Jerusalem and "convince[s] the world that Jerusalem is not Arab but Jewish"
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 21, 2013
"Today, Wednesday, Aug. 21, is the 44th anniversary of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque fire of 1969, after the radical Jew Michael Denis [Rohan] set fire to the Mosque... Israel arrested the criminal and the Israeli authorities transferred him to a psychiatric hospital... after a short period of time he was deported to Australia. At the time he said that he did what he did 'according to divine instruction'... Prior to setting fire to Al-Aqsa and to the present day, the Israeli authorities have attempted in various ways and [by various] means to harm the Al-Aqsa Mosque by continuing excavations beneath it and building interconnecting tunnels. This has led to the destruction of the Mosque's foundations at the Sanctuary of Jerusalem (i.e., the Temple Mount). The Israeli authorities still attempt to Judaize Arab Jerusalem and constantly try to hide [from view] the Dome of the Rock, a symbol of Arab Jerusalem in the eyes of the world, in a pathetic attempt to convince the world that Jerusalem is not Arab but Jewish. Likewise, they continue to incite against Muslims, and no one has ruled out the possibility that another 'deranged' Jew will set the Mosque on fire again."

Israel continues "Judaization" of Jerusalem and "the expulsion of its residents"

"The Palestinian National Council (PNC, i.e., the legislative body of the PLO) warned of the consequences of the continuation of the Judaization of Arab-Palestinian Jerusalem by the occupation's authorities.
In an announcement [published] today, Tuesday, on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the crime committed by the occupation in setting fire to [the] Al-Aqsa [Mosque], the [Palestinian] National Council emphasized that every day, the occupation continues the crime of setting fire to Al-Aqsa and to Jerusalem, capital of the State of Palestine, by continuing the settlement, the Judaization and the expulsion of its residents.
The Council emphasized that the occupation is determined to ignite flames on Palestinian land specifically, and in the region in general and to destroy any chance of peace."

The Brigades warned everyone to avoid a civil war and [to act] to expose the Zionist-American plot to weaken the region’s resistance forces and Judaize the Al-Aqsa Mosque before the eyes of the Muslims.”
Israel Judaizes Jerusalem and tries “to rob the Muslim man and his heritage”
