Jerusalem under assault
Jerusalem is "land of Ribat" - holy Islamic land
Jerusalem under assault
In 2009 the Palestinian Authority has initiated an unprecedented campaign of historical revision and anti-Israel libels concerning Jerusalem, the focal point being the erasure and denial of 3,000 years of Jewish history in Jerusalem.

In addition, the PA disseminates the libel that Israel is acting both to expel Arabs from Jerusalem and to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Jerusalem libels are designed to evoke religious hatred by portraying Israel and the Jews as a threat to Arabs and Islam.

This section documents the recent intensification of the Palestinian Authority's campaign of distortion, historical revision and hate incitement surrounding Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is "land of Ribat" - holy Islamic land
The Palestinian Authority has adopted the Hamas ideology of framing the conflict with Israel as a religious war for Allah. Jerusalem and all of Israel are defined as "Ribat" - holy Islamic land - whose "liberation" and defense are said to be mandatory under Islamic law. The significance of the PA defining the conflict as “Ribat” is clear when reading how a PA schoolbook defines “Ribat":

"The Ribat for Allah is one of the actions related to Jihad ...The persistence of Palestine's people on their land in these days [i.e., Israel], and their persistence against the damage and the aggression they endure - is one of the greatest of the Ribat [fighting for Islamic land], and they are worthy of a great reward from Allah.... they are found in Ribat until Resurrection." [Islamic Education, grade 12, p. 86-87]

Since 2008, Palestinian leaders have frequently defined all of Israel, and particularly Jerusalem, as land of "Ribat" - i.e., areas which Muslims have a religious obligation to defend and liberate for Islam. In the past, it was specifically Hamas that defined the conflict with Israel as a religious war. Now, the PA - Fatah leadership regularly presents its war against Israel as a religious battle for Islam.
Fatah youth movement calls for “widening confrontations with the occupation,” if Jerusalem is “harmed” – “it means opening the gates of hell before the occupiers”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 27, 2017
Headline: "The Shabiba calls for widespread participation in a Friday of Ribat as a sign of support for Jerusalem"
"The Fatah Shabiba [youth] movement in the West Bank published a statement in which it saluted 'the resolve and Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) of the members of our people, its women, young, elderly, national forces, and religious institutions in Jerusalem, which are currently proudly defending the Arabness of Jerusalem, the Islamicness of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the honor of the Arab nation and the Islamic nation.' The Shabiba movement also appreciated the position of [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian leadership, their latest decisions regarding Jerusalem, including stopping all types of contact with the occupation, and their call to the members of our people to carry out Ribat in order to defend the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. It also admired the position of the Palestinian leadership to aid the resolve of the Palestinian citizens in Jerusalem. Fatah's Shabiba demanded that its sons, activists, and supporters, and all of the young Palestinians widely participate in a Friday of Ribat, to widen the circle of the confrontation with the occupation forces and the herds of settlers, to open all the fronts in the villages, cities, and refugee camps, and to widen the area of confrontation so that it will include all of the settlements and roads that serve them, in order to convey the message of the young Palestinians that Jerusalem is a Palestinian taboo, and that harming it means opening the gates of hell before the occupiers."

Fatah proud of rioters in Jerusalem, vows to continue “popular resistance”
Source: Donia Al-Watan (independent Palestinian news agency), July 24, 2017
Headline: “Fatah: Jerusalem is our capital, the Al-Aqsa Mosque is our direction of prayer, and the [Fatah] Movement is leading those defending them”

“[Fatah] Movement Spokesman Osama Al-Qawasmi said in a press statement that we in Fatah are proud of our residents and our people who are carrying out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) in Jerusalem in particular, and also of our mighty Palestinian people everywhere it is located, which in these moments is embodying the most spectacular definition of cohesion, unity, and mutual responsibility, and is defending the sites that are holy to Islam and Christianity and the entire holy city [of Jerusalem]. Fatah will continue to be on the ground and leading those defending our capital and our Al-Aqsa Mosque as part of the popular resistance (i.e., term used by Palestinians, which also refers to the use of violence and terror) that it has adopted and leads.”

The terms "peaceful uprising/resistance,” and “popular uprising/resistance" are used by PA leaders at times to refer to peaceful protest and at times to refer to deadly terror attacks and terror waves. For example, ‎Mahmoud Abbas defined as “peaceful popular” the murderous terror during the 2015-2016 ‎terror wave (“The Knife Intifada”), in which 40 people were killed (36 Israelis, 1 Palestinian, 2 Americans and 1 Eritrean) and hundreds wounded by stabbings, shootings and car ramming attacks: Abbas said: "we want peaceful popular uprising, and that’s what this is." http://palwatch.org/main.aspx?fi=157&doc_id=16437
Abbas’ religious advisor claims Israeli security measures on Temple Mount “constitute aggression against religious and political rights of Muslims”; Fatah claims Israel planning to “empty Jerusalem” of Palestinians
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 20, 2017
Headline: “Friday is a day of general high-alert and prayers will not take place except at the Al-Aqsa Mosque”

“Supreme Shari’ah Judge and [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Dr. Mahmoud Al-Habbash called on the international community to act before it will be too late to prevent the deterioration of the situation in the Middle East and the world because of the continuation of the racist Israeli attacks against the Al-Aqsa Mosque (Israel placed metal detectors at its entrances after a terror attack in which 2 Israelis were murdered took place there on July 14, 2017; see note below –Ed.).
The supreme Shari’ah judge emphasized that the responsibility for the Al-Aqsa Mosque is the sole right of Muslims, and that the Israeli interference in Al-Aqsa Mosque affairs constitutes aggression against the religious and political rights of the Muslims.

The Fatah Movement yesterday [July 19, 2017] again emphasized its absolute opposition to the Israeli steps of aggression in occupied Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Fatah Revolutionary Council member [and Official Fatah Movement Spokesman] Osama Al-Qawasmi said in a press statement that Fatah will not agree to the implementation of the Israeli plan to empty the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy city [of Jerusalem] of its original inhabitants, the members of the Palestinian people.
Al-Qawasmi added: ‘We and all the members of our people that carries out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) condemn the illegal steps of the occupation authorities, and also oppose entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque through metal detectors.’”

Fatah declares “day of rage” in response to metal detectors on the Temple Mount
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, July 17, 2017
Headline: “Fatah called for a day of rage on Wednesday and for mass movement towards the Al-Aqsa Mosque”

“The Fatah Movement has announced several actions in the northern [West Bank] branches in light of the Israeli escalation against the Al-Aqsa Mosque (refers to metal detectors being placed at the entrance to the Temple Mount following a terror attack there on July 14, 2017; see note below –Ed.), the most significant of which is a day of rage this Wednesday [July 19, 2017] at all of the branches, and a call for mass movement towards the Al-Aqsa Mosque. In coordination with the [PA] Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Friday prayer will be held this week in the public plazas of the Palestinian cities, and every branch will define its plan to support the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy sites against the Israeli occupation’s acts of terror, until the occupation retracts its steps against the mosque.
These statements were made during a meeting held today [July 17, 2017] between Fatah Movement Secretary and [Fatah] Revolutionary Council member Adnan Ghaith, Fatah Movement Central Committee member and [Fatah] General Commissioner of Mobilization and Organization [in the West Bank] Dr. Jamal Muhaisen, and all of the secretaries of the Fatah Movement’s northern branches…
At the end of the meeting, the branch secretaries saluted all of the [Arab] residents of Jerusalem who are carrying out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) in the city, and said that Jerusalem’s cause is every Muslim, Arab, and Palestinian’s cause, and that this is expressed by conveying the Palestinian people’s willpower for widespread action in light of what is happening in Jerusalem and to rise up for it.”

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “It's not enough for us to say: ‘There are those carrying out Ribat’ (religious conflict / war over land claimed to be Islamic). We must all carry out Ribat in the Al-Aqsa [Mosque]. It's not enough for us to say: ‘The settlers have arrived [at the Mosque]’. They have come, and they must not come to the Sanctuary (i.e., Temple Mount). We have to prevent them, in any way whatsoever, from entering the Sanctuary. This is our Sanctuary, our Al-Aqsa and our Church [of the Holy Sepulchre]. They have no right to enter it. They have no right to defile it. We must prevent them. Let us stand before them with chests bared to protect our holy places.”

Dean of Islamic schools calls on Muslims to carry out Ribat at the Al-Aqsa Mosque
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, July 15, 2017
Official PA TV program Inside, on the closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque for two days after a terror attack was committed there on July 14, 2017, in which 2 Israelis were murdered; hosting Dean of the Al-Azhar Institutes in Palestine Sheikh Imad Hamato

Dean of the Al-Azhar Institutes in Palestine and host of weekly PA TV show in Islam Sheikh Imad Hamato: "We [the Palestinians] are people that do not know our history correctly. We have a deed of ownership from Allah for the Al-Aqsa Mosque. We have a deed of ownership from our lord, Allah’s Messenger [Muhammad]…
We must all be at the Al-Aqsa Mosque [expressing our full] emotions, this is a call over those good radio waves, that every Muslim should reexamine his faith. We fear that Allah will examine our hearts and find that we are mired in emotions that will not please Him. Every Muslim must fulfill the obligatory commandment to assist the Al-Aqsa Mosque. It is not enough that you say that your identity is Muslim, and it is not enough that you say that your identity is Christian. You must ask forgiveness of Allah and carry out the commandment of Ribat at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, around this mosque taken hostage."

PA Mufti denies Jews’ right to the Western Wall: Al-Aqsa and Jerusalem are ours, all four of walls around it are part of Al-Aqsa
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 24, 2017
Headline: “150,000 worshippers held the [last] Friday prayer of Ramadan at the Al-Aqsa Mosque plazas”

“[PA] Mufti of Jerusalem and preacher at the Al-Aqsa Mosque Muhammad Hussein, on the last Friday of the blessed [Muslim fasting] month of Ramadan, conveyed a message from Saladin [Al-Ayyubi’s] pulpit to the world that we are holding onto the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, because it is a principle of [our] faith and a place of worship, and we will continue to carry out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) there and visit it.
He emphasized that the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem are ours and that all four of the walls around it, including the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount), are part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

The Al-Buraq Wall - Islam's Prophet Muhammad is said to have rode during his Night Journey from Mecca to "al aqsa mosque", i.e., "the farthest mosque" (Quran, Sura 17), and there tied his miraculous flying steed named Al-Buraq to a "stone" or a "rock." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Book 47, Hadith 3424). In the 1920's, Arab Mufti Haj Amin Al-Husseini decided to identify the Western Wall of the Temple in Jerusalem as that "rock" or "stone," and since then Muslims refer to the Western Wall as the "Al-Buraq Wall."

PA official encourages disorder: Palestinians must prepare for “comprehensive national rebellion” against Israel
Source: Donia Al-Watan (independent Palestinian news agency), June 7, 2017
Headline: “Khaled called to abandon the illusions and change the rules of confrontation against the occupation”

“In a social media post, PLO Executive Committee member and Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) political bureau member Tayseer Khaled called to break free of the chains of the agreements and the occupation by changing the rules of confrontation against the occupation government’s policy.
He added: ‘We have no choice but to change the rules of confrontation against the policy of the occupation government led by [Israeli Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu and to start preparing for a comprehensive national rebellion against the occupation, given that it is the main political option for breaking free of the occupation and earning independence.’”
PA minister calls people to come to Al-Aqsa for “constant Ribat” – continued religious conflict
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, June 4, 2017
Headline: “Ida’is: Over 100 Israeli violations against the places of worship in May 2017”

“[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida’is said… ‘The facts on the ground show that the occupation and its settlers are making concentrated attempts to empty the Al-Aqsa Mosque of its people, in light of the attacks and arrests of the men and women carrying out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic).’ He again emphasized his call to ‘come and carry out constant Ribat at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs), which suffers exactly like the Al-Aqsa Mosque, as the occupation has forbidden the sounding of the call of the Muezzin (i.e., the person who sings the Muslim call to prayer) there 61 times.’”

The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an “attack.” It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.

During a meeting on peace at the World Economic Forum that is being held now at Sweimeh on the Dead Sea coast, west of Amman, Erekat added: ‘We think that transferring the American embassy to Jerusalem constitutes the end of the peace process.’
He added: ‘What we mean is that as far as the Palestinians are concerned, a state whose capital is not East Jerusalem is meaningless.’”

[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida’is condemned the fact that the occupation forces are sowing fear in the hearts of the [Palestinian] civilians and [condemned ] their racist acts, and said: ‘This mosque will remain the beating heart of Hebron, one of the most important and prominent symbols of our Islamic nation. It will be only ours, Palestinians’ and Muslims’, and the Jews have no right to it.’
[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and [Palestinian] Supreme Fatwa Council Chairman Sheikh Muhammad Hussein… praised those carrying out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) in Jerusalem and at the Ibrahimi Mosque, and mentioned the attack against the buildings and plazas of the destination of the Night Journey of [Allah’s] Messenger (i.e., the Al-Aqsa Mosque), blessings and peace be upon him, as well as against those visiting it. PA Mufti threatens "severe complications" if US embassy is moved to Jerusalem
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 20, 2017
PA Mufti Muhammad Hussein: “We say in light of the things that Jerusalem is suffering from, such as declarations and plans, like the plans of US President [Donald Trump] who promised during his election campaign to transfer the American embassy to Jerusalem... We must say that keeping this promise holds great dangers and a concern of severe complications that only Allah knows where they will lead. How can the Palestinian people, which has made many sacrifices, which has sacrificed processions of Martyrs (Shahids) one after the other, and which has given for the goal thousands of prisoners, the students of freedom who defend the fundamentals of the noble people, our people who is engaged in Jihad and Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic), our people and our leadership and all members of our people will not be silent if this promise is kept and the American president transfers the embassy to Jerusalem. We say to the American president and to the entire world, Jerusalem has a people, and it has residents, and it has a nation [that will stand by it]. Even if there are people who will not take the appropriate position regarding Jerusalem, all of the Arab and Islamic peoples will in no way agree to Jerusalem being harmed…"

Erekat said that he passed the message from President Abbas to Putin during a visit to Moscow during which he met with [Russian] Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Erekat said: ‘I passed a letter from President Abbas to Putin. Fatah official: US embassy move will be "a sign of the end of the world"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 12, 2017
Headline: "Zaki: Transferring the American embassy to Jerusalem will absolve us of all the agreements and turn Palestine into a war zone"
"Fatah Central Committee member Abbas Zaki emphasized that the Palestinian leadership will not allow the transfer of the American embassy, and will be absolved of the previous decisions and agreements. He also warned against turning Palestine into a war zone if the new American administration decides to transfer it.
Zaki said today, Wednesday [Jan. 11, 2017], in an interview with Radio Mawtini: 'The transfer of the American embassy to Jerusalem will be a sign of the end of the world.' He added: 'The attack against the place of [Prophet] Muhammad’s Ascent to Heaven and Jesus' resurrection contradicts the religious and international understandings,' and he warned against the terrible dangers whose course cannot be predicted. Zaki emphasized that no power in the world can prevent the Palestinians, Muslims, and Christians as one from carrying out their national obligation to defend their occupied capital, and said: 'There is no Palestinian state without Jerusalem.'
Zaki said that he is convinced that the statements of US President-elect [Donald] Trump that were used during the election campaign cannot be implemented on the ground in Palestine and noted that this trend appeared in the 1960s when [former Israeli Prime Minister David] Ben-Gurion proposed it in order to establish the occupation state in Jerusalem and to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque in order to establish the alleged Temple."

Abbas’ advisor on religious affairs: If the US moves its embassy to Jerusalem it is “a declaration of war on all Muslims”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 6, 2017

Official PA TV, Friday sermon by Supreme Shari’ah Judge and Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash, in the presence of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas

Supreme Shari’ah Judge and Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash:  "The new American administration intends to transfer its embassy to Jerusalem. In a simple, calm, and rational manner, in clear words that need no explanation and which are unambiguous: Such a step, for every Muslim, is a declaration of war on all Muslims. It's a declaration of war on all Muslims. We are no one's enemies, and we do not want to be. We are not enemies of the US and we do not want to be. However, when something harms our faith and our existence, we cannot stand by and do nothing. We will not agree to this under any circumstances. This will not pass in silence... The entire Muslim world will not accept it, and the entire Christian world will not accept it. Occupied Jerusalem is our eternal capital, the capital of our existence and the capital of our state. In politics there can be compromises here and there... In politics there can be negotiation. However, in matters of religion, faith, values, ethics, and history, there can be no compromises. Therefore, it isn't possible to compromise on or negotiate over Jerusalem. This of course does not mean that we will prevent anyone from considering Jerusalem their direction of prayer. Our Jerusalem will remain open to all believers as it has been. Open to all of the monotheists."

Headline: “Ida’is: Over 95 attacks and violations against the holy sites and houses of worship last month”
“[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida’is said that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque stands before an unprecedented Israeli escalation in light of the rise in the rates of invasions by the groups of settlers who are currently enjoying wide influence…
Ida’is called on citizens to carry out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) continuously at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs), and not to give the occupation an opportunity, and he praised our residents’ standing firm on their land and their great sacrifices.”

The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an “attack” or “invasion.” It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.

Friday sermon in presence of PA Chairman Abbas
Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs, Mahmoud Al-Habbash: "Throughout history the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall), its plaza, and all of its facilities, the area of the Dung Gate, and the entire Al-Aqsa Mosque (i.e., the Temple Mount) have been a purely Islamic waqf and a purely Islamic property. And no one, [not] even the Jews, ever claimed - they have not claimed ownership of it before. But [now] they are attempting to change world awareness, and they think they can create a right through occupation."

Fatah official calls on Palestinians and Israeli Arabs to come to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and carry out Ribat there because of Israeli “invasions” on Jewish holidays
Source: Amad, independent Palestinian news website, Sept. 28, 2016
Headline: "Alayan: The occupation is carrying out a policy of ethnic cleansing in Jerusalem"

“Official Fatah Spokesman in occupied Jerusalem Raafat Alayan… called on the Palestinian people in general, and the people of the holy city (i.e., Jerusalem) and our people in the '48 territories (i.e., PA term for Israel) in particular, to visit the Al-Aqsa Mosque and carry out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) from the beginning of next week (i.e., the first week of October 2016), in the shadow of the occupation's threats to carry out widespread invasions of the [Al-Aqsa] Mosque as part of what they call their holidays (i.e., Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year) that are expected to occur at the beginning of next week.

Likewise, he emphasized that the presence and the Ribat at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and its plaza are the highest and bravest form of struggle at this time.

Alayan concluded with a blessing and praise of the people of the holy city who stand firm and carry out Ribat in their city despite the Israeli steps that strive to expel them."

PA minister claims Cave of Patriarchs is a "purely Islamic site," condemns Jewish "invasions" of Al-Aqsa and calls for Ribat

Headline: “The occupation closed the Ibrahimi Mosque today, and banned the sounding of the call to prayer 49 times during the past month”
“The Israeli occupation authorities today, Thursday [Sept. 1, 2016], closed the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs) in Hebron, and used the Jewish holidays as an excuse…
[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Yusuf Ida’is condemned the occupation’s decision to close the mosque. He emphasized that it is necessary to act immediately in order to save it and put an end to this and all of the daily violations and attacks. Likewise, he viewed this as ‘an outrageous blow to the Muslims and to the purely Islamic site.’…
He added: ‘In the same way, the occupation continues its policy at the Al-Aqsa Mosque – daily invasions, Talmudic (i.e., Jewish) prayers, and plans to change the face of the land adjacent to it. [Even] the dead were not saved from its policy, especially in the historical Ma’man Allah (i.e., Mamilla) cemetery, which was and still is subjected to the ugliest attack. It [the occupation] is holding an alcohol drinking festival (i.e., the Jerusalem Beer Festival at Independence Park at the end of August 2016) on its land, and there is no need to mention the digging [in graves], the shattering [of tombstones], and the planting of fake graves.’
Likewise, he called to maintain a permanent presence [at the Al-Aqsa Mosque], and to go up to it and continue [carrying out] Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic).”

PLO official claims Israel wants “religious war,” is “burning” the Al-Aqsa Mosque to establish the “alleged Temple"
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, Aug. 22, 2016
Headline: “Qurei calls for Arab and Islamic coordination in order to defend the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the Judaization and division”

“Head of the PLO Department of Jerusalem Affairs [and PLO Executive Committee member] Ahmed Qurei warned of the dangers and consequences of the cruel and unprecedented Israeli attack against the holy city (i.e., Jerusalem) and the Al-Aqsa Mosque… in a pitiful attempt by the occupation government to change the status-quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in preparation for its complete Judaization – from the rejection of the [Jordanian] Waqf’s authority to the increase in the invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza by the extremist settlers and rabbis…

He said: ‘The Israeli occupation government’s insistence on increasing the invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and its plaza and preventing [Muslim] worshippers from reaching it, is a step that is part of the implementation of the aggressive and racist Israeli policy that indicates the declaration of a religious war. [The war’s] main target is the holy city and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque…’

Qurei added that the occupation authorities are burning the Al-Aqsa Mosque, with all of its characteristics, on a daily basis… in order to realize the largest goal of the occupation state: the destruction of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the establishment of the alleged Temple on its ruins.

Official PA TV program From Jerusalem, about the Murabitat (woman carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic) of Jerusalem and schools of Quranic studies

Official PA TV host: “Despite the fact that the Al-Aqsa Mosque’s place in the hearts of Jerusalem’s [Arab] residents was the first source of inspiration for the thought of Ribat, it has grown stronger due to the Masatib Al-Alam [project] that has drawn many women and men who wished to receive lessons in religious law and memorization of the Quran in the [Al-Aqsa] Mosque plaza. Women who challenge the occupation using their voices to call over and over ‘Allah is great!’ along with slogans demanding their basic rights to freedom of worship and prayer at the Al-Aqsa Mosque. They believe that Ribat at the Al-Aqsa Mosque is part of the Palestinian women’s role against the occupation.
The Murabitat phenomenon expresses Palestinian society’s awareness of what the occupation intends to do at the Al-Aqsa Mosque. There was and still is a critical role [for the Murabitat] in thwarting the dozens of invasion and defilement attempts by the herds of settlers, [and the] plans to take over the [Al-Aqsa] Mosque and build the alleged Temple in its place.”

The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an "invasion." It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.
Fatah official : Area around Temple Mount is “pure Islamic waqf,” Israel spreads “false stories” about Jewish connection to Temple Mount
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 26, 2016
“Secretary-General of the National Christian Coalition in the Holy Lands and member of Fatah’s Revolutionary Council Dimitri Diliani said that the music festival near the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza actually constitutes the spreading of the occupation’s false narrative. Diliani said yesterday [Feb. 25, 2016] in a radio interview: ‘The festival that the occupation will hold next to the southern wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza is a vain attempt to perpetuate the occupation’s perception of the holy Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount),’ and emphasized that this area is a pure Islamic waqf (i.e., an inalienable religious endowment in Islamic law), and that the occupation is spreading false stories.”
PA daily: Terrorist killer "felt rage" over Israel's "attacks against those carrying out Ribat" and he "hoped to die a Martyr"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 13, 2016
Headline: “Martyr Ahmad Zakarneh – lover of Jerusalem”
“Indeed, the news of Ahmad’s death as a Martyr arrived. At the same moment the mother’s heart was relieved and she said: ‘Praise Allah.’ Everyone in the village rushed to the home of the Martyr’s family, and did not know whether to console [the family] over his death as a Martyr or express pride in his death in an operation of this type…
Ahmad was a young person who loved everyone, and everyone loved him. For a long time he had felt rage over the occupation’s attacks against those carrying out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic) at the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He loved Jerusalem and hoped to die there as a Martyr, and he got what he wanted, according to his mother.”

Ahmad Abu Al-Rub, Ahmad Zakarneh and Muhammad Kmeil - Three Palestinian terrorists in their early 20's who shot and stabbed two Israeli police officers at the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem on Feb. 3, 2016. One of the officers, 19-year-old Hadar Cohen, was fatally wounded and died of her wounds. The second officer was seriously wounded. The terrorists, who attacked the policewomen after they were asked for identification, were carrying machine guns, knives, and pipe bombs, leading the police to suspect they were planning a mass attack against civilians. The terrorists were shot and killed at the scene by Israeli police.

Fatah-run Awdah TV program Personal Encounter spoke with Secretary of Fatah's Jordan branch Najib al-Qaddumi

Secretary of Fatah's Jordan branch Najib al-Qaddumi: “Therefore we say that the young people of the current uprising, that we bless, - we bless the Murabitin (i.e., those who carry out Ribat, religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) in Jerusalem, around the Al-Aqsa Mosque. We bless the heroes, the young men and women who, with their knives, kitchen knives, have begun defeating the armed Israeli soldier, who has begun to be afraid when he sees a young woman or a young man passing him on the street. They have broken the Israeli soldier’s morale. They wiped out the oppressive power which deceived them and exhausted them. If they [the Israelis] possess weapons, we possess the historical right, the faith in our cause.”
Fatah calls on Palestinians to “carry out Ribat and protect the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque” from “Judaization”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Dec. 7, 2015
Headline: “Fatah calls on our people to protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque”
“The Fatah movement warned the Israeli government of the consequences of the Jewish extremist organizations’ calls to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque on what is called ‘the holiday of Hannukah,’ and called on our people to carry out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) and protect the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
[Fatah] movement Spokesperson Osama Al-Qawasmi stated yesterday: ‘The latest statements of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu which were leaked, in which he spoke of his ability to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque, are decisive proof of this extreme government’s true malicious intentions, and additional proof of the fact that the Al-Aqsa Mosque invasions are being carried out as part of the occupation government’s clear plan to carry out the plot of dividing the Al-Aqsa Mosque by areas and times. The Fatah movement again emphasized that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a red line, and that we will under no circumstances allow this Judaization project of our holiest of holies. Likewise, it called to the Arab brothers to take responsibility for what is happening in the occupied Palestinian territories.”

The PA considers any presence of Jews on the Temple Mount an "invasion."

"Division according to areas and times" refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. The law seeks to designate separate prayer times and areas of the site for Muslims and Jews.
Israeli PM Netanyahu has stated on many occasions that the Israeli government has no intention of ‎changing the status quo on the Temple Mount.
Fatah official praises “murabitin” (those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic)
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Nov. 4, 2015
Official PA TV News, live broadcast from the condolence tent for terrorist stabber Fadi Alloun. Interview with Assistant Secretary of Fatah in Jerusalem Shadi Mattour.
Assistant Secretary of Fatah in Jerusalem Shadi Mattour: “We say to the government of Israel, instead of seeking solutions to deter [Palestinian] residents of Jerusalem defending their mosque, it [the Israeli government] needs to think about what caused this situation. It needs to think about why Martyr (Shahid) Muhannad Halabi (i.e., terrorist who stabbed two to death) wrote on his [Facebook] page when he saw a Jerusalem woman being dragged away by the occupation forces. He came [to carry out the operation (i.e., stabbing attack)] in order to protect that woman, he came to help the Al-Aqsa Mosque… For the residents of Jerusalem the Al-Aqsa Mosque is an article of faith. The Israelis need to stay away from the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza. The sights that the Palestinians see, what is happening to the Murabitin (those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic) in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to our people, inflame the emotions of our Palestinian people. The Israelis are mistaken when they say that the problem is 50 Murabitin at the Al-Aqsa Mosque. At the moment of truth, all the Palestinian people will be Murabitin. Muhannad Halabi, the hero Martyr, was not one of the Murabitin, and despite this he broke through all the barriers and all their police, and came to carry out an operation for the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

Allah could kill all Jews, but Allah wants Palestinians to carry out Ribat (religious conflict)

Sheikh Khaled Al-Mughrabi, teaches Islam twice a week in the Al-Aqsa Mosque: ‎“Allah can annihilate all the Jews down to the last one, throughout the world. But what ‎does Allah want? He wants us to fulfill His command. If we ask ourselves: ‘How can I ‎fulfill Allah’s command?’ The most important thing I can do to fulfill Allah's command ‎when I am in the Al-Aqsa Mosque is Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed ‎to be Islamic) in the Al-Aqsa Mosque… ‎The Prophet [Muhammad] says about the Martyr: ‘His sins are forgiven with the first ‎gush of blood.’‎ Some privileges are bestowed upon the Martyr. The first: ‘His sins are forgiven with the ‎first gush of blood.’‎ The Martyr's second privilege: ‘He marries two of the Dark-Eyed (i.e., virgins) of ‎Paradise.’ His third privilege: ‘He advocates on behalf of 70 members of his family.’ […]‎ Let’s compare the privileges that are bestowed upon the Ribat fighter to the privileges ‎of the Martyr: ‘The Ribat fighter marries 70 of the Dark-Eyed (i.e., virgins).’‎ The Martyr gets two of the Dark-Eyed, while the Ribat fighter gets 70. 35 times more ‎than the Martyr. ‘He marries 70 of the Dark-Eyed, and can advocate on Judgement Day ‎on behalf of anyone he wants.’”‎

"The Fatah Central Committee held a meeting yesterday led by President [Mahmoud] Abbas, which began with the reading of the [Quranic Sura of] Al-Fatiha for the souls of our righteous Martyrs (Shahids)…  [Spokesman for PA Chairman Abbas and] Fatah Central Committee member and its official spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina stated that President Mahmoud Abbas… repeated and stressed his position, to which he referred in his UN speech, regarding agreements signed with the Israeli government, and that if this government sticks to its non-commitment to these agreements, we will review them again... Abu Rudeina said that the Fatah Central Committee salutes the vast masses of our people who have risen up in order to protect their Al-Aqsa Mosque and the sites holy to Islam and Christianity in Jerusalem, and particularly those carrying out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) there.  In addition, the committee saluted the masses of our people, who have come out against the terrorist settlers who are murdering [Palestinians] in all the refugee camps, cities, and villages of the brave West Bank. The committee emphasized that the Fatah movement is, as ever, at the head of the national project, and it unites today with the masses of our people in defending their holy sites, land, homes, lives and farms. In addition, he [Rudeina] called to maintain the character of the popular resistance as part of a comprehensive national strategy and non-deterioration to the Israeli cycle [of violence].”

In August 2013, Israel agreed to release 104 Palestinian terrorists from prison, which was the PA's precondition for renewing peace talks. The terrorists were released in stages. The first group of 26 was released on Aug. 13, 2013. The second group of 26 was released on Oct. 30, 2013. The third group of 26 was released on Dec. 30, 2013. The fourth group was scheduled to be released on March 29, 2014, but Israel delayed their release while negotiating the terms for continuation of the peace talks. When the PA submitted requests for admission as a state to several international bodies, Israel cancelled the release.
Gazan preacher: “The Al-Aqsa Mosque awaits the heroes of the West Bank to launch Jihad, and kill every settler and every traitor they come across.”
Source: Facebook page of the Abdallah Azzam Mosque in Gaza, Oct. 5, 2015
Sheikh Muhammad Abu Sa’ada, sermon at the Abdallah Azzam Mosque in Gaza. Posted on the mosque’s Facebook page.
Sheikh Muhammad Abu Sa’ada: “The Al-Aqsa Mosque awaits its Mujahideen (i.e., Jihad fighters), and its Martyrdom-seekers. The Al-Aqsa Mosque is waiting, and it knows that even if the occupier desecrates the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the heroes of Gaza are making preparations and are digging tunnels that lead to Al-Aqsa, and one day they will emerge in the [Al-Aqsa Mosque] plaza, the streets, and alleys, and proclaim: Allah is great! And will announce general mobilization against the brothers of apes and pigs… The Al-Aqsa Mosque awaits the heroes of the West Bank to launch Jihad, and kill every settler and every traitor they come across. Al-Aqsa awaits heroes.
We will be victorious, Allah willing, because Allah is with us. We will be victorious, Allah willing, because it was promised by God’s Messenger [Muhammad]. We will win, Allah willing, because there are Mujahideen, Murabitin (i.e., those who carry out Ribat, religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) and Martyrdom-seekers. We will be victorious, Allah willing, because there are people among us who strap explosive belts on their bodies, and look forward to their journey to Paradise, to meet [Islam’s] Prophet Muhammad and his companions. By Allah we will be victorious, Allah willing… We await a decision from our leader, who will tell us: “None of you will pray the afternoon prayer anywhere but in Tel Aviv. We will be victorious. We can see this moment, it is imminent.”

Fatah salutes those who carry out Ribat in Jerusalem as “courageous”

Headline: “Assaf: ‘The time has come to get rid of the occupation, and we are willing to pay the price’”
“Official Fatah Spokesman Ahmad Assaf stated: ‘The time has come to get rid of the occupation and obtain freedom and independence,’ and emphasized that our people, which has made heavy sacrifices, is ready to sacrifice more, and it is the only one that will determine its self-definition in a free and independent state with its capital in Jerusalem. Assaf added in an interview with Mawtini Radio on Sunday [Oct. 4, 2015] morning that the occupation’s crimes and its direct executions of our young will not scare us, and will not prevent us from defending our Al-Aqsa [Mosque], our land, and our homes, but will rather increase our challenging [of this occupation] and insistence on opposing this occupation with all its components, soldiers and settlers alike. In addition, he called on our people to be vigilant and united in their stand against the settler terrorists in order to block their way, and not allow them to isolate our families and children. Regarding [Israeli Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu’s statements, which placed the blame for the occurring events on Fatah and its leadership, Assaf said that the only ones responsible for all that is happening are Netanyahu and his right wing extreme government, the government of the settler murderers…
Likewise, the Fatah movement saluted our many people in all the cities, villages, and refugee camps, first among them Jerusalem, the capital, and its Murabitin (those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic), who defend their land, homes, and Al-Aqsa [Mosque] bravely and courageously.”
PA Mufti: Murabitin who fight Israeli soldiers at Al-Aqsa Mosque are "fulfilling their obligation" and protecting mosque from "those who seek to harm it"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Sept. 29, 2015
“At least 20 Palestinians were injured yesterday [Sept. 28, 2015] during confrontations that broke out after the break-in to the Al-Aqsa Mosque by the special forces of the occupation, which attacked the Murabitin (those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic) and worshippers with stun grenades and rubber bullets… About 80 young people have closed themselves in and carried out Ribat in the Al-Aqsa Mosque since two nights ago... Dozens of masked people were seen throwing rocks at the occupation forces. A number of them succeeded in reaching the roof of the museum and the Mughrabi Gate Mosque (i.e., the mosque on the eastern part of the Temple Mount) and throwing rocks on soldiers and Jewish citizens under the [Western] Wall. Likewise, the police surveillance cameras recorded the throwing of Molotov cocktails at the biblical garden near the Mughrabi Gate…
[PA] Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and preacher in the Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein warned of the severe consequences of the repeated break-ins of the settlers to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza under protection of the Israeli occupation forces, and [of the consequences of] the attacks against worshippers and Murabitin there. He saluted the protectors of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and its Murabitin for fulfilling their obligation by protecting the place to where their Prophet [Muhammad] traveled, and urged everyone who can to come to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and carry out Ribat and pray in it, in order to deter those who seek to harm it. He emphasized that the occupation’s actions are fuel to the destructive fire that will come.”

He stated that the occupation no longer hides its policy and daily activities to Judaize the Al-Aqsa Mosque, so that public opinion will get used to their [the Jews’] presence on the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza and inside it [the Mosque], as if they are an authentic part of the place. This is in order to lessen the shock and pain of what the future holds … Ida’is stated that in a new step in the Judaization [process], the occupation will ask its Ministry of Foreign Affairs to organize visits for high-ranking officials to the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount), accompanied by a series of media and propagandist deceptions and lies, which it will distribute worldwide, in order to attack the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Ribat fighters (Murabitin - those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic -Ed). One [deception] is that Al-Aqsa stands on the Jewish Temple, which needs to be rebuilt, and [another goal is to] mislead world opinion [with the claim] that the Muslims enjoy freedom of worship while the Jews do not.”

“During the [PA] government meeting yesterday [July 28, 2015]… it stressed that the daily attacks against the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] and the worshippers are part of the crazed attack being led by the Israeli right and the settlers, under the Israeli government and its army’s protection and in flagrant complicity with them, in order to impose new facts on the ground. The [PA] government warned that if the Israeli government continues its current policy regarding Jerusalem and its holy sites, this would definitely cause the entire region to go up in flames, and drag it into a religious war.
The government saluted its people standing firm, and the Ribat fighters (i.e., Murabitin, those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic), who are protecting the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] with their chests and their hands, and called on the Palestinian people, with all its parts and its popular and official institutes, wherever it may be, to stand as one protecting Jerusalem and it’s Al-Aqsa [Mosque], to carry out Ribat in it, and to come out against the plot to Judaize it.”

PA Minister of Religious Affairs calls on Palestinians to carry out Ribat to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, July 28, 2015
“[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida'is stated that the increased Arabic and Islamic presence at the Al-Aqsa Mosque stops the plans of the occupation government and the settlers at the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] and in the holy city, and prevent their implementation.
In an interview to the Mawtiny radio station today, Tuesday [July 28, 2015], Ida’is called on anyone who can reach the Al-Aqsa Mosque to carry out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) in it, in order to deter the settlers from invading the mosque.
He warned of the international silence in the face of the occupation’s crimes in Jerusalem, stating: ‘The international silence gives Israel a green light to commit its crimes against our people. Every day it adds a new crime to its list, and aspires to divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque according to zones and times.’”

PA Minister of Religious Affairs: All Muslims should support and aid Ribat fighters
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, July 27, 2015
“During his meeting with the preacher and great scholar and Islamic thinker Dr. Muhammad Rateb Al-Nablusi in Amman, Minister of Religious Affairs Yusuf Ida’is called on all Muslims in the world to act quickly to protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque, to talk about Jerusalem and its importance in their Friday sermons, lectures, and conferences, to mention it specifically in prayers, and to support and aid its Ribat fighters (i.e., Murabitin - those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic).
Ida’is stressed that all the Muslims in the world who are able to visit the Al-Aqsa Mosque should do so, in order to come to its aid and stand as a steadfast dam against the plots being woven against it and to foil the attempts of the extremists to harm its sanctity. Likewise, he emphasized that it’s necessary to act to expose the activities of the extremist occupation through the Arab media, in order to place the Palestinian issue and the Al-Aqsa Mosque high on the list of priorities of Arab and Islamic countries.
Ada’is stated that the Zionist plans to Judaize Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque will not be actualized since only Muslims have any right to the Mosque, including its plazas, (i.e., the Temple Mount) corridors, and all parts of it, and that Jerusalem will remain Islamic, and the occupation will not negate its identity, no matter what it does.”

Fatah spokesman: “We will defend [Al-Aqsa] to our last breath”, praises “Ribat fighters who … protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque with their bare chests”

Headline: “Assaf: ‘The Al-Aqsa [Mosque] is part of the tenets of our faith and our basic principles, and we will defend it to our last breath.’”
"Fatah spokesman Ahmad Assaf warned of the inherent danger of the plans of the Israeli occupation state, which are aimed against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and intended to take it over, in the shadow of Arab countries’ preoccupation with their internal affairs. He emphasized that the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] is an integral part of the tenets of our faith and our basic national principles, and we will defend it to our last breath... Assaf expressed sorrow regarding the Arab and Islamic silence, and stated: ‘A number of years ago, invasion of the Al-Aqsa Mosque was an unusual event that would shock the Arab countries and the world. For a while, Israel has been trying to turn these invasions into a regular event, and to some extent it has succeeded. However, it met with resounding failure [in its attempt] to defeat the Palestinian, Jerusalem, and Fatah movement Ribat fighters (Murabitin - those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic) who stand firm and protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque with their bare chests.”

Fatah praises Ribat in Jerusalem, calls to "take action... to protect the Al-Aqsa [Mosque]... no matter how many sacrifices it takes"
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, July 26, 2015
“The Fatah movement emphasized the Arab identity of Jerusalem and its holy places to Islam and Christianity, and [the need to] redeem the Al-Aqsa Mosque through sacrifices. This is in order to prevent the implementation of the [Israeli] plan to Judaize it, and to [have] the invading settlers take it over. An announcement by the [Fatah] Information and Culture Commission today, Sunday [July 26, 2015] stated: ‘While Fatah declares a general call into action to protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Noble Sanctuary of Jerusalem from the plan of Judaization - under which the occupation state is using its extremist settlers as a spark that would increase tension and turn the conflict into a religious one - it reemphasizes that support of Arab Jerusalem and its holy places is support of Palestine and the Arab-Palestinian national identity, as well as support of the concepts of peace embodied by the holy places of Islam and Christianity in the holy city...
Fatah saluted the Palestinian Murabitin’s (i.e., those who carry out Ribat, religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) resolve in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and their defiance to the invasion of settlers into the Noble Sanctuary of Jerusalem. In addition, it praised the citizens’ resolve and their resistance to the armed soldiers of the occupation ... It stressed that the movement’s fighters, together with the Palestinian people, are ready to take action against the [Israeli] plot and to protect the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] and all the holy places in Jerusalem - no matter how many sacrifices it takes.”

PA Minister of Religious Affairs to Palestinians: "Feel good about the honor [of carrying] Ribat”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 26, 2015

PA Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida'is on PA TV program Today's Topic: "The Israeli occupation’s goal is to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque using rabbis and groups of extremist Jews, and to establish the alleged Temple in its place... Israel challenges and provokes the feelings of Arabs and Muslims. When Israel attacks the places holy to Islam and Christianity - and even trees, stones, or the dead are not safe from these attacks - it essentially wants to incite a religious war in the entire Middle East region. It strives for religious war, and it is the one adding fuel to the flames... Islamic teacher to children at summer camp: Dead Ribat Martyrs get seventy virgins, ordinary Martyrs get only two
Source: Al-Msjed Al-Aqsa YouTube channel, July 26, 2015

Sheikh Khaled Al-Mughrabi speaks to children at an Al-Aqsa Mosque summer camp about
Ribat fighters, Martyrs and the virgins awaiting them in Paradise:
Sheikh Khaled Al-Mughrabi: “Let's talk about the Hadith (i.e., Islamic tradition) of Prophet Muhammad about the Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic). It compares the stature of the Martyr to that of the [martyred] Ribat fighter. The Prophet says... Three privileges are bestowed upon the Martyr: "His sins are forgiven with the first gush of blood. He marries two of the Dark-Eyed (i.e., virgins) of Paradise. He advocates on behalf of 70 members of his family." In the same Hadith, the Prophet talks about the [martyred] Ribat fighter... He marries 70 of the Dark-Eyed (i.e., virgins). The Martyr gets two, while the Ribat fighter gets 70 of the Dark-Eyed. The Ribat fighter gets 35 times more than the Martyr... The Prophet says... The Ribat fighter who dies in Ribat can advocate on Judgement Day on behalf of anyone he wants for 50,000 years.”
Bystander: "Do they [the children] even understand what you are saying?"
Children in the summer camp: "Allah is Great! Allah is Great!"
Sheikh Khaled Al-Mughrabi: "Leave us alone. Leave us alone."
Bystander: "Can they understand things like Ribat, Martyrdom and the Dark-Eyed [Virgins]? You should be ashamed, sir, a man with a white beard like you. Give these lessons to us [adults], not to children. Look at these children, you fill their heads with this?"
Children: “With our lives and blood, we will redeem Al-Aqsa!”

Advisor to PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Jerusalem Affairs Ahmed Al-Ruweidi: “The most dangerous thing is the building of a synagogue… The [Israeli] goal is to build a synagogue on the eastern part of the Al-Aqsa plaza, which overlooks the Golden Gate (in Jerusalem’s old city walls –Ed.). Visits are being made to this area, especially by groups of settlers and members of the Israeli government, as we saw today [July 26, 2015]. Therefore, I am proud of the male Ribat fighters (Murabitin - those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic -Ed), and the female Ribat fighters, our sisters, who using blood, arrests, attacks, and beating, succeeded in expelling them [the occupation forces] with their bodies, their firm stand and their Ribat. PLO Department for Jerusalem Affairs calls for Ribat in response to Jews visiting Temple Mount
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 22, 2015
Headline: “Jewish calls for widespread invasions of the Al-Aqsa [Mosque], and Palestinian calls to go out against them”
“The so-called ‘association of alleged Temple organizations’ called to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in order to celebrate its reopening to Jews by the occupation authorities… The PLO Department for Jerusalem Affairs warned of the dangers and repercussions of these racist calls, which are liable to incite religious conflict in the region, and to drag it [the region] into a whirlwind of violence and extremism… The [PLO] Department for Jerusalem Affairs called for increased presence and Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) in the Al-Aqsa [Mosque], and to thwart the settlers and extreme Jews’ attempts to enter the Al-Aqsa [Mosque’s] courtyards, defile them, and conduct their Talmudic ceremonies (i.e., Jewish prayers) there."

Notes: "Alleged Temple organizations" refer to religious Jewish movements including the Temple Mount Heritage Foundation, The Initiative for Jewish Freedom on the Temple Mount and Students for the Temple Mount, which spread awareness of the importance of the Temple Mount in Judaism and encourage people to visit the site. On July 14, 2015, several of these organizations held a planned demonstration in Jerusalem's Old City. The demonstration was allowed by the Israeli Supreme Court and protested the discrimination against Jews on the Temple Mount. Jews are not permitted to pray on the Temple Mount and have very limited access to the holy site.

Because the Dome of the Rock cannot hold all of them, we need a larger building,' [and Issa said] this is a clear, allusion to the plans striving to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and build the alleged Temple on its ruins.”

Article in response to the distribution of leaflets that threaten the Christians in Jerusalem signed in the name of ISIS.
“The [PA] Ministry of Information stated that the desperate, dubious attempts to sow the seeds of sectarian strife in occupied Jerusalem - through leaflets which the occupation is behind and attacks carried out by a few incited youths against churches and residential houses in the holy city - are carried out by unenlightened people who accuse others of heresy, deviate from the teachings of Islam and make every effort to cause a rift in the national line, blacken it and tarnish it with hatred.  The Ministry emphasized that these seeds will remain foreign to the land of Palestine that is saturated with the blood of the Martyrs (Shahids) and with the situation and destiny common to our one people, regardless of religion, color or gender. It pointed out that the occupation, which has failed politically and morally, attempts to ignite sectarian strife in the city of peace, the land of Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic)... It stressed that the Palestinian people, Muslims and Christians alike, whose blood is mixed together as they courageously defend our land, will remain immune to the dubious, strife-mongering entities. The Ministry called on all the factions and national institutions, and our people, to stand against the occupation and its agents’ dubious attempts.”

Fatah`s Jerusalem branch: "We are calling on all citizens to carry out Ribat at the Al-Aqsa Mosque"

“The Israeli Magistrate Court has published its decision to impose administrative detention on Adnan Ghaith, director of Fatah’s Jerusalem branch… Ghaith assumed his position at a time when Jerusalem was witnessing recurring closings of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, an increase in the occupation’s arrogance and savagery toward the city’s residents, expressed through the murder of Jerusalem residents on the one hand, and through recurring attacks against the residents of Jerusalem by the settler herds on the other. Things got to the point that [Fatah’s Jerusalem] branch published an announcement calling for a general recruitment of the Palestinian masses and of Jerusalem residents. The announcement read: ‘The fact that the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been abandoned and its sanctity defiled amounts to a declaration of religious war against the Palestinian people, the Arab nation and the Muslim nation. Therefore, we are calling on all citizens to carry out Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in order to defend it, whatever the sacrifice, and in order to prevent the occupation authorities from carrying out their plans to Judaize Jerusalem and its holy symbols…’"

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas:  "... Netanyahu began saying, ‘You have to recognize the Jewish State.’ We refused, absolutely refused. He directed his demand at us, not any [other country] in the world – in other words, he wanted no recognition from any other country in the world but us. We know why. We know very well why he spoke of a Jewish State. They started speaking about issues that could potentially affect the Arabs of 1948 (i.e., Israeli Arabs). When you say ‘Jewish State,’ they [the Israeli Arabs] are outside of it. This is one of the many reasons [we refused], and therefore, we continue to say: We will recognize the State of Israel. If Israel wants to call itself by a certain name, it should turn to the UN – although we would not agree [to such a move], neither now or in the future, under no circumstances. Now, [regarding] the events in the Palestinian territories, the attack on Al-Aqsa, the attack on the synagogue and then [again] Al-Aqsa. In practice, Israel wants to turn this into a religious war, and we have spoken about this repeatedly, saying: ‘You are giving an excuse to those who speak of an Islamic state – IS and the others.’ All of them give excuses to each other. For us, in the 21st century, this idea is not [relevant] – not an Islamic state, not a Christian state, not a Jewish state. Therefore, [when] you reach this line, you Israelis are leading a religious war which will happen, or is already happening, and will increasingly heat up in the region, in view of your statements and your demand that we recognize a Jewish state. We will not recognize a Jewish state and will not allow any opportunity to be given to [those wishing to] declare an Islamic state in Iraq and Syria..."

Abbas' advisor and Fatah Central Committee member Sultan Abu Al-Einein:
"Peace be upon you, oh children of Jerusalem. Oh, those who carry out Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) in the plazas of the first direction of prayer of Allah (i.e. the Al-Aqsa Mosque) in the name of your people and your Arab nation... Blessed be your quality weapons, the wheels of your cars, your axes and kitchen knives. By Allah, these are stronger than the arsenals of our enemy, because [they are being used] according to Allah's will. We are the soldiers of Allah."

Abbas: “We must all carry out Ribat at the Al-Aqsa Mosque”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Nov. 18, 2014
Official PA TV Live broadcast PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ speech at the opening of the 14th session of the Fatah Revolutionary Council
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “For a while now, Jerusalem has been subjected to the attacks of the settlers, who are aiming to divide the holy compound according to time and place. We know what this means. Numerous attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque have been stopped by those carrying out Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) who were present at the holy compound. I say to our people in Jerusalem and the West Bank: We must all carry out Ribat at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and we will not let the herds of settlers deride the Al-Aqsa Mosque. We are currently taking the necessary international legal steps in this matter.”

Note: The physical division and division according to time refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. The law seeks to implement separate prayer times for Muslims and Jews at the site.
Abbas: “We are all Murabitin (i.e., those who carry out Ribat) along with the children of Jerusalem”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Nov. 11, 2014
Official PA TV broadcast a repeat of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ speech on the 10th anniversary of Yasser Arafat’s death:
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “The Israeli leadership is making a big mistake if it thinks history is reversible and that they can establish facts on the ground and divide the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] according to place and time, as they did in the past at the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs) in Hebron – a step they will yet retract. With their actions, they are leading the region and the world into a destructive religious war. Neither the Muslim nor the Christian world will ever accept the Israeli claims that Jerusalem belongs to them. No one, [neither] Muslims nor Christians, will accept that Jerusalem be [anything] but the capital of the State of Palestine, and we will accept no other claims, whatever they may be. Jerusalem is our capital, and we will not give it up. Jerusalem, which was conquered in 1967, is our Jerusalem and our capital, and we will protect it and defend its holy places. We are all Murabitin (i.e., those who carry out Ribat, religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) along with the children of Jerusalem.”

Note: The physical division and division according to time refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. The law seeks to implement separate prayer times for Muslims and Jews at the site.

Abbas advisor: Palestinians must go to Al-Aqsa Mosque, where Israel has to deal with the Murabitin (those carrying out Ribat)

Official PA TV News report on the demonstrations in Hebron in support of the Al-Aqsa Mosque

PA Chairman Abbas’ advisor on NGOs and Fatah Central Committee member Sultan Abu Al-Einein: “This (i.e., demonstrations in support of Al-Aqsa) reflects the setting out to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which the Messenger of Allah called us [to perform.] All the children of the homeland must be present at this clamorous confrontation with the Israeli enemy, which has infested our holy places in Al-Aqsa. For the first time, [the occupation] has entered into the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque and is dealing with the Murabitin (those who carry out Ribat, (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) there with bullets and tear gas.”

Note: In a Hadith, Muhammad is said to have called Muslims to “set out” for three mosques – Al-Masjid al-Haram (in Mecca), Al-Masjid Al-Nabaw? (in Medina) and Al-Aqsa.

Abbas' advisor on terror murders: "We are behind them in every movement, in every action and every deed"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Nov. 5, 2014

Supreme Shari'ah Judge and Abbas' advisor, Mahmoud Al-Habbash:
“First of all, allow me to say that we kiss every forehead, every hand and even every foot that carries out Ribat (religious conflict/ war over land claimed to be Islamic) at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and in Jerusalem... I am not talking about strengthening their resolve; I am talking about participating in their resolve... We are behind them. The leadership is with them. A few days ago, President [Mahmoud Abbas] greeted them, reinforced them and requested more Ribat from them. This statement may have angered the Israelis and the occupation, that the President is inciting the Palestinians from Jerusalem to [perform] Ribat. Yes, we are inciting the people in Jerusalem to [perform] Ribat. Ribat means to protect and to hold on to your ground. We are with them in every movement, in every action and every deed, and we welcome what they are doing at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

Qalqilya governor: Palestinians are carrying out “campaign of Ribat” under Abbas’ orders
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 4, 2014
In a speech on Oct. 17, 2014, Mahmoud Abbas called on all Palestinians to "carry out Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque from being "defiled" by Israel. PA TV broadcast that specific part of Abbas' speech 19 times in 3 days. In the same vein, the governor of Qalqilya states that Palestinians are carrying out Ribat to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque under the orders of Abbas:
“During a popular and official meeting, Qalqilya District Governor Rafe' Rawajbeh inaugurated the campaign of Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) for Jerusalem and for the Murabitin (those who carry out Ribat) at the Al-Aqsa Mosque… Rawajbeh summarized the systematic schemes, official Israeli attacks and the attacks of the settlers on Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa, which are aimed at completing the Judaization of Jerusalem and the division of Al-Aqsa according to time and space.
He said: ‘Our campaign today is [being carried out] at the command and under the guidance of the President [Mahmoud Abbas], in order to defend Al-Aqsa and because of the Israeli attacks and schemes to divide it according to space and time. In addition, it comes in view of the fact that some of our brothers are continuing to carry out Ribat inside Al-Aqsa in order to defend its history and the rights of the Muslims.’

Note: The physical division and division according to time refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. The law seeks to implement separate prayer times for Muslims and Jews at the site.
Fatah spokesman calls on Palestinians to carry out Ribat and defend Al-Aqsa "using all means"
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Oct. 30, 2014
Headline: “Assaf: The Palestinians will oppose the occupation’s plan using all legitimate means ‎(i.e., including violence)‎
“Fatah Spokesman Ahmad Assaf held [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s extreme right-wing government responsible for the volatile situation in Jerusalem. In addition, he emphasized that all of the actions, violations, and condescending statements of Israeli officials regarding Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites pour oil on the flame of increasing tension in holy Jerusalem. Assaf warned in press statements on Thursday [Oct. 30, 2014] of the dangerous consequences that are liable to arise from the closing of the Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary (i.e., Temple Mount) by the Israeli occupation authority, and called on our people to carry out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) at it and to defend it using all means. Likewise, he emphasized that Fatah will stand at the forefront [of the efforts] to thwart the Israeli plan whose purpose is to divide the first direction of prayer and the third sanctuary, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, according to times and areas, and that it will lead to a religious war that will threaten the security and stability of the region, and of the entire world. Assaf emphasized that the Fatah Movement and the Palestinian people will oppose the Israeli plan using all means.”

PLO Executive praises violence in Jerusalem, calls for "Ribat (Islamic religious war) in Al-Aqsa and its environs"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 27, 2014
“PLO Executive Committee Member and Head of the Department for Jerusalem Affairs Ahmed Qurei ‘Abu Alaa’ said that the settler herds’ invasion of Al-Aqsa (i.e., the Temple Mount) through the Mughrabi Gate, their attack on the Murabitat (women who carry out Ribat, religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) and the arrest of the citizen and Old City resident Samiha Joudeh as she was entering the Mosque, amount to war crimes, perpetrated by the Israeli occupation government as part of its infringement of the [Muslim’s] freedom of worship. Qurei reiterated his firm opposition to all violations and to the offensive of daily invasions Israel is carrying out against Al-Aqsa. Abu Alaa addressed the gravity of the situation in Jerusalem, particularly in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, as a result of the destruction and Judaization the settlers are spreading in the Mosque’s plazas.
Qurei called for increased presence and Ribat in Al-Aqsa and its environs. He welcomed the efforts of the residents of Jerusalem to block the attacks and invasions of the settlers and extremist Jews, and the fact that they were preventing them, with chests bared, from entering the Mosque and touring its plazas.”

Abbas advisor calls on Palestinians to "perform Ribat" to "save the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the ‎schemes of Judaization"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 18, 2014
‎     “The [PA’s] Supreme Shari’a Judge and ‎Advisor to President [Mahmoud Abbas] on ‎Religious and Islamic Affairs, Mahmoud ‎Al-Habbash, called on the Arab and ‎Islamic governments and nations to work ‎seriously to save the Al-Aqsa Mosque ‎from the schemes of Judaization and the ‎division being planned by the occupation ‎authorities, [which are] similar to what ‎happened at the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., ‎The Tomb of the patriarchs in Hebron). [Al-‎Habbash’s statement came] in view of the ‎rise in the number of cases of desecration ‎of Al-Aqsa by the settlers, and in light of ‎the fact that the occupation authorities ‎have closed its doors to Muslims, with the ‎aim of allowing the settlers to invade it. Al-‎Habbash emphasized that the actions of ‎extremist settlers, Israeli MPs and senior ‎Israeli officials, such as the terrorist [Israeli ‎MP] Moshe Feiglin are doing, will not give ‎any right whatsoever to the Al-Aqsa ‎Mosque to non-Muslims, and this could ‎trigger a religious war that would destroy ‎everything. He also emphasized that ‎those who are not Palestinian have no ‎sovereignty over Al-Aqsa, or over any of ‎the Islamic and Christian religious sites, ‎and the right to them belongs exclusively ‎to the Arabs and Muslims... Al-‎Habbash called on the residents of ‎Jerusalem, the Palestinian territories ‎occupied in 1948 (i.e., Israel) and on ‎anyone capable [of doing so] to go to the ‎Al-Aqsa Mosque to defend it, pray in it and ‎perform Ribat (i.e. religious conflict/war to ‎defend Islamic lands and property) in its ‎plazas, in order to thwart the Zionist plan ‎to divide it.”‎

Islamic-Christian Jerusalem Council calls on Palestinians to wage Ribat at Al-Aqsa Mosque
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 4, 2014
“Secretary-General of the Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places Hanna Issa called on the residents of Jerusalem and the brothers from the Palestinian interior (i.e., Israel) to come to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and wage Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) in it, in light of the aid being provided by the Israeli Security Forces to the Zionist attacks aimed at invading Al-Aqsa …
At the end of the statement, the Secretary-General said that this series of steps and preparations [toward invading the Al-Aqsa Mosque] are being carried out before the [Jewish] holiday of Shavuot, one of the holidays of pilgrimage ordained by the Torah, meaning that masses of Jews are required to perform pilgrimage to and enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform the commandments of the Torah… This reveals, if anything, the extent of the brutal attack being planned to implement their plans of building the alleged Temple on the ruins of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in full cooperation with the [Israeli] National Security Forces.”

Note: The PA considers any presence of Jews on the Temple Mount an "invasion." However, all visitors are subject to rigorous checks by Israeli security personnel before being granted access to the Temple Mount.

‏"‏Forty-nine years have passed since Fatah ‎fired its first bullet announcing the ‎Palestinians’ revolt against their bitter ‎reality, on the first of January 1965…‎
Our great Palestinian people is always in ‎the vanguard to protect its Arab and Islamic ‎nation, and the free people of the world, ‎against the attack of Zionist and ‎international colonialism. Persevere, be patient and perform Ribat ‎‎(religious conflict/war over land claimed to ‎be Islamic) – those who carry out Ribat in ‎Jerusalem and its surroundings;‎

Mufti in PA daily: Palestinians "stand firm on the land of Ribat"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 25, 2013
By Sheikh Hassan Ahmed Jaber, Mufti of the Rafiah District, in his regular religious column.
“Oh brother believers in the world’s East and West. In these fateful days that our Palestinian people, who stand firm on the land of Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic), are undergoing, the Al-Aqsa Mosque and its people are subject to dangerous attacks intended to secure a takeover of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the city of Jerusalem and its environs. These hostile and ominous attacks are illustrated by excavations conducted by the enemy beneath the Al-Aqsa Mosque in order to damage it.”
Fatah official calls for Palestinians to carry out Ribat at Al-Aqsa Mosque
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 11, 2013
“The Fatah movement called yesterday [Oct. 10, 2013] for the Palestinian people to enlist en-masse and protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque in light of the ongoing invasions (the mere presence of Jews on the Temple Mount is considered an "invasion." However, all visitors are subject to rigorous security checks on the Israeli side before being granted access to the Temple Mount. – Ed.) and acts of desecration it is subject to by gangs of settlers and Jewish rabbis, [who are] protected by Israeli occupation soldiers.
In an announcement released by [Fatah’s] Information and Culture Commission, spokesman Ahmad Assaf said: ‘We urge our Palestinian people in Jerusalem and the Interior (i.e., Israel), as well as all West Bank residents capable of coming, to carry out Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) in the Mosque and to protect it from the despicable plans directed against this holy place by what is called, ‘physical division and [division] according to time,’ until it is completely taken over.’”

Note: The “physical division and [division] according to time” refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. The law seeks to implement separate prayer times for Muslims and Jews at the site.
Jerusalem council: Perform Ribat at Al-Aqsa Mosque to defend against Judaization
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Sept. 16, 2013
Headline: “Islamic-Christian Council: Jerusalem is in the final phase of Judaization”
“Secretary-General of the [Islamic-Christian] Council [for Jerusalem], Dr. Hana Issa… noted that the occupation is conducting a crazed attack against the holy city, and the blessed [Al-Aqsa] Mosque in particular, as can be inferred from the ever-intensifying daily incursions into the mosque’s plaza and [Jews] conducting rituals and prayers relating to the alleged Temple [there]. In addition, he called on the Arabs to arouse from their deep sleep before it is too late, since Jerusalem is now in the final phase of being Judaized. Also, the Council called on all [those] who can, to come to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, or even just get near it, to perform Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) in order to thwart the Judaizing program that threatens it, for Al-Aqsa desperately needs help in light of the Judaizing menace and destruction it faces.”
PA Minister of Religion: Palestine is “the land of the Ribat fighters”
Source: Radio Voice of Palestine (Fatah), Aug. 8, 2013
Eid El Fitr [holiday] sermon by PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash. He talks of 26 prisoners that were imprisoned before the Oslo Accords and who are about to be released in a goodwill gesture by Israel in August 2013:
“In a few days, those of whom it was said that they would never leave prison – those who sat for decades in the occupation’s prisons, 20 years, more than 20 years, and some of them 30 years in the occupation’s prisons, so that people of little faith who don’t believe in themselves, in their people and in their leadership, thought the [prisoners] would never see sunlight of freedom – yet here they are, about to leave, about to touch freedom, embrace freedom in the land of freedom, in the land of the free, the land of the honored, the land of the Ribat fighters (Arabic: Murabitun, people carrying our Ribat – religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic), the land of Jerusalem and Jerusalem’s surroundings.”

“How can we restore Jerusalem, how can we restore Jerusalem if we will not be the soldiers, if we will not be the ones who conduct Ribat (religious conflict/war defending Islamic land), if we will not be the ones who conduct Ribat over Jerusalem’s soil, if the nation will not join its leaders, its clerics, people, leaders, men, women, youth and elders? PA Sheikh calls for people to go to Al-Aqsa Mosque and “perform Ribat”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Mar. 27, 2013
During Passover 2013, member of Israeli Parliament Moshe Feiglin sought to visit the Temple Mount. The PA daily portrayed his intention to visit the site as a “call to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque”:
“National personalities and unofficial activists denounced Israeli Parliament member Moshe Feiglin’s call to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque today to mark the Hebrew Passover holiday. Member of the PLO Executive Committee and Head of PLO department of Jerusalem Affairs, Ahmed Qurei ‘Abu Alaa’ warned of the consequences of these recurring attacks and of the racist calls to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He said that the almost daily invasions of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque…and the call to build the alleged Temple testify to a dangerous Judaizing plot which puts Jerusalem in real danger, therefore it is necessary to work seriously and decisively to end these gross violations and the uncaring policy adopted by Netanyahu’s most extreme and racist government.
Yusuf Ida'is, President of the Supreme Islamic Court and Chairman of the Supreme Council of Islamic Law, called on our people wherever they may be found – especially the residents of Jerusalem and the land occupied in 1948 (i.e. Israel) – to head towards the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and perform constant Ribat (religious conflict/war defending Islamic land) to protect it. This was in response to Feiglin’s call. He put full responsibility for the crimes against the holy city and its holy sites on the Israeli occupation government. Sheikh Ida’is emphasized that the Israeli occupation government, including all its different branches, continues its attempts to Judaize the city of Jerusalem and its holy sites. He made it clear that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is in grave danger because of the unceasing excavations underneath it and the recurring invasion of herds of settlers.”
Fatah official Abbas Zaki: Palestinians are “the nation of Ribat”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 16, 2013
PA TV's Topic of the Day interviewed Abbas Zaki, member of Fatah's Central Committee, about the anniversary of Abu Iyad's assassination. Zaki also spoke about historic ties between Christianity and Islam.
Abbas Zaki: "This is what is written in the Quran. That we are the nation of Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic), the nation of Jihad. All the world's Christians – who are now running after Israel – all of them know that Jesus was a Palestinian and that the Church of the Resurrection (i.e., the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem) and the Gethsemane Church are Palestinian. And praying Muslims didn't pray until after Muhammad made the Night Journey from the Sacred Mosque (in Mecca) to the Distant Mosque (Al-Aqsa, in Arabic) and ascended to heaven and descended and prayed with the prophets. And we and the Christians [are bound by] the Pact of Omar, and the time has come for Muslims to wake up. They have no prayer if they abandon Jerusalem."

Note: The Pact of Omar was a seventh century treaty between Muslims and Christians that gave some degree of religious freedom to Christians and Jews as Dhimmis, as long as they abided by certain laws and restrictions.

Habbash: “We say to the whole world, we say to the occupation government, to whoever supports the occupation government to whoever defends the occupation government in international forums: As Allah lives, we are continuing what we do; we are continuing our Ribat (religious conflict to defend Islamic land). We are continuing our Jihad. We are continuing with our resolve. We are continuing to hold on, until Allah grants us victory, until Allah grants victory to our cause, until our Jerusalem is returned to us, until our state is established, or until we die. As Allah lives, this is one of two good things: Victory or Shahada (Martyrdom death for Allah). There is no third option. Either victory or Martyrdom death.”

We will remain in it, we will live in it and we will die in it. We will resist through our presence upon our land. We will resist through Ribat (religious conflict/war to defend Islamic land) and resolve; we will resist by building, and we will resist by every means... Ribat upon this land is an honor… Yesterday, this occupation perpetrated a crime. It was carried out by one of the members of the terror movements, who are referred to as the so-called 'settlers'. These settlers are all – all of them – terrorists; terrorists in the full sense of the word. Every settler who lives upon Palestinian land, who steals Palestinian land, is a terrorist."
Mufti of Jerusalem praises calls “to maintain Ribat (religious conflict/war defending Islamic land)” in Jerusalem
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 13, 2012
"The Mufti of Jerusalem and speaker at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, praised the residents' response to calls to come to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to maintain Ribat (religious conflict/war) in its pure plazas in order to defend it. His honor [Hussein] appealed yesterday to the Ribat fighters in the Al-Aqsa plazas and emphasized that the practical response to the threats of the occupation and the extremist Jewish right-wing against the Al-Aqsa Mosque is to remain there, in large numbers… The Ribat fighters in the Al-Aqsa Mosque squares yesterday sounded shouts of 'Allah Akbar'… Fatah spokesman Osama Al-Qawasmi said in an announcement: 'The Netanyahu government is pushing the region towards a religious struggle whose results no one can gauge…' A press release said: 'Israel knows well that there will be no Palestinian state without Jerusalem, and that the Palestinian leadership has proved to everyone that there will be no solution or stability without the liberation of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the Israeli occupation… We have sacrificed thousands of Martyrs (Shahids), prisoners, and injured people in the Al-Aqsa Intifada (the PA terror campaign, 2000-2005), which was kindled by the will of [former Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel] Sharon to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque. We are prepared to defend Al-Aqsa with our lives.'"

PA TV live broadcast of third day of Palestine Popular Resistance Conference. Live broadcast from town Budrus in Ramallah district close to the security fence. Panel on national unity and popular resistance.
Member of the Fatah Central Committee, Sultan Abu Al-Einein:

"I say on your (the audience’s) behalf: Praise to Allah who has given us the honor of being in Ribat (religious conflict/war) until the Day of Judgment.
[He then quotes the hadith about Ribat of the inhabitants of Jerusalem and its environs.] And we claim this honor, for indeed we are in Ribat.
[He then talks about national unity, says Fatah refused to use arms against Hamas members. And later he talks about the need for national unity between Fatah and Hamas before appealing to UN in September:]
Brothers and sisters – Khansas of Palestine (i.e., Al-Khansa was a 7th century poet, honored in Islamic tradition for celebrating her four sons' deaths in battle)…
We can apply to the UN to issue by force the birth certificate which has been withheld from the Palestinian people for the past 62 years, while a birth certificate was issued to the Israeli enemy from the same place [the UN] to which we have decided to apply in September."

Note: Al-Khansa - an Arab woman and poet from the earliest period of Islam (7th century) famous and honored in Islamic tradition for sending her four sons to battle and rejoiced when they all died as Martyrs. She has been lauded by the PA and often presented as a role model for mothers.

PA daily columnist: "Emphasize the greatness of Ribat and Martyrdom" in Jerusalem
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 24, 2011
Headline: “In the shadow of Muhammad’s night journey”
“An anniversary dear to our hearts awaits us – the date of Muhammad’s night journey, which the Prophet experienced both spiritually and physically, in order to confirm for us the sanctity of blessed Palestine by means of Ribat upon it. It was Allah’s will that the place of this tremendous sign should be Jerusalem. This is clear proof, so that every Muslim can know with certainty the significance of unity and Ribat and the connection between the parts of the land of Islam [Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem]. With the advent of this anniversary which we are about to have [of the Night Journey], there is no choice but to emphasize the following points:
1. The land of Palestine is a single land that cannot be divided, no matter what the circumstances…
2. To emphasize the greatness of Ribat and Martyrdom upon the land of the Resurrection.”
Sheikh in PA daily: Conflict "between us and the Jews" is about "faith and existence," not land
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 3, 2011
Sheikh Ishaq Feleifel teaches religion:
"The old-new despicable plot: The struggle between truth and falsehood is as ancient as life upon this earth... yet the mighty Islam, from the breaking of its dawn and the spreading of its light up until our time, has been targeted by its enemies, who do not agree on anything as they agree on cultivating evil against Islam and uprooting Muslims. The challenge still exists; moreover, the enemies have announced in a clear and provocative manner their despicable and terrible plot. Sixty-three years ago, the Israeli Prime Minister, Ben Gurion, stood at the UN after the entire world granted recognition to the malignant cancerous growth known as the State of Israel... The Prime Minister of this destructive cancerous growth stood up to declare the religion of the Jews in Palestine to the entire world. I hope that the [Islamic] nation will study this faith in order to know with certainty that the Jews talk, in conferences and in negotiations, only through their distorted, corrupted, falsified religion which they have adopted, which they glorify and honor, and they are lying when they deny the owner of the right the right... And the conflict between us and the Jews is not a conflict about land and borders, but rather a conflict about faith and existence."

He said that he believed the liberation of Jerusalem to be near. Participating in the Jerusalem Conference in the Sudanese capital, Al-Zahar said: ‘The liberation of Palestine is a Quranic fact…’
At the closing session of the Jerusalem International Institution’s eighth conference in the capital [of Sudan], Khartoum, two nights ago, Al-Zahar added: ‘We emphasize that we do not intend to give up until the flag [with the slogan] ‘There is no God but Allah’ is raised over all of the occupied Islamic land and oppression is removed from upon it.’ He continued: ‘We emphasize that the liberation of Jerusalem is closer than people think…’ Al-Zahar greeted the residents of Jerusalem ‘from whom emerged the great man Sheikh Raed Salah, the chief defender of Palestine and Jerusalem. At the same time, he greeted the residents of the West Bank.
He also greeted Gaza, ‘which lost its sons and daughters, but still grasps its weapons.’ [He said,] ‘They will enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque and turn the plaza of the Zionist Knesset (the Israeli Parliament) into the next Tahrir Square, Allah willing.’”
Mufti of Jerusalem: "Carry out Ribat" to stop "Israeli attacks and Judaization" of Jerusalem
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 17, 2011
Headline: “Our people’s religious leaders are calling for help in order to save Jerusalem”
“The office of the Chief Religious Justice of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice held a press conference yesterday at the governmental information center at the Ministry of Information in Ramallah, in which speakers addressed the Israeli violations against the city of Jerusalem and the sites holy to Islam and to Christianity. [...] Attending the press conference were Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice, Sheikh Yusuf Ida'is; Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein; and Deputy Minister of Christian Religious Affairs, Hanna Issa, and representatives of the local, Arab, and world media. [...]
Sheikh Hussein […] noted that in recent years Israel has built 65 synagogues inside the holy city, the latest being the “Hurva” synagogue. The Israelis were optimistic that this would be a prelude to the establishment of the alleged Temple…
Sheikh Hussein noted that several things must be done to stop the Israeli attacks and Judaization, including visiting the holy city, carrying out Ribat within it, and exposing Israeli actions."
PA daily: Muslims must "carry out the Ribat until Allah's victory comes"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Dec. 17, 2010
Headline: “Protection of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and support of the people living in its vicinity are religious obligations [obligatory] for every Arab and Muslim”
“Oh believing brothers throughout the world – in these fateful days which befall the Palestinian people remaining resolute upon the land of Ribat, it is obligatory for every Arab and Muslim to lend material and moral support to our Palestinian people, for protection for the Al-Aqsa Mosque and those who live in its vicinity…
Still their [Israelis’ – Ed.] despicable conspiracies continue, as embodied in excavations, Judaization of the land, theft of identities and temptations which they offer to our people in exchange for their leaving the land. … The land of Palestine and Syria is the land of Ribat, and it is the fortified barrier behind which the Arabs and Muslims stand in order to fight against their enemies. If the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the land of Palestine are abandoned [and left] without defense, the danger will encompass all Islamic lands, because the enemies’ aim is not to rule over Al-Aqsa alone; rather, they believe that if Al-Aqsa and the place to which Muhammad journeyed are treated lightly by Arabs and Muslims, then they will treat their faith lightly. We must all continue to adhere to our faith and to carry out the Ribat until Allah’s victory comes, for ‘Allah’s victory is close for the believers’.”

Source: Palvoice website (Fatah), Dec. 15, 2010
"Abbas Zaki, member of the Fatah Central Committee and General Commissioner for Arab Relations, called for an Islamic summit conference to be held immediately for the city of Jerusalem… He emphasized that the summit would need to establish the stance of the Islamic states towards Jerusalem, ‘since it is not only ours, but [belongs to] all Muslims, and is in grave danger.’
Zaki said, in announcements to the press, that ‘the struggle and the Jihad for the liberation of Jerusalem are not the job of the Palestinians alone; it is the job of all Muslims and all believers and all who are loyal and who bear the faith, and Jihad on [Jerusalem’s] behalf is a personal religious commandment (i.e. incumbent on every individual) [fard ayn] and not [merely] a communal religious commandment, especially in the shadow of the threat to the holy city and its inhabitants, coming from the occupiers who are acting to change its Arabic and Islamic landmarks…’

Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Aug. 27, 2010
“We come to you from there – from Jerusalem and from the Jerusalem surroundings, from the land of Ribat [religious war], the land which Allah blessed forever… Today the Palestinian people in Jerusalem stand alone. They want to see the Arabs and the Muslims at their side; they want to see all the Arabs and all the Muslims coming to Jerusalem, emphasizing its status and its identity, and telling the usurpers (i.e., Israel): ‘You have no place here.’ Telling the occupiers, ‘This is not your place, but ours. This is not your city, but ours.’ Our religion demands this. Our faith demands this of us.”

He also called upon them to support its [Arab] citizens… in order to oppose the plans of the Israeli occupation authorities, which aim to force [Muslims] to leave and to expel them by carrying out acts of suppression and crimes of ethnic cleansing, with flagrant violation of all the laws of monotheistic religions as well as all international laws and covenants.”
