Abbas' advisor on religious affairs calls on Imams and Christian clergy to preach about the dangers of transferring the US embassy to Jerusalem
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 13, 2017
Headline: "Al-Habbash called on Imams of mosques in Arab and Muslim states to focus on the dangers of transferring the US embassy to Jerusalem"
"Supreme Shari'ah Judge of Palestine and [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas'] Advisor on Religious [and Islamic] Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash yesterday [Jan. 12, 2017] called on religious scholars and Imams of mosques in the Arab and Islamic world to speak in the Friday sermons about the dangers of transferring the American embassy to occupied Jerusalem.
Al-Habbash related in a press statement to the dangers inherent in the US taking this unwise step, due to its implications for international peace and security.
He added: 'We call on the Imams of mosques in all Arab and Islamic states to deal with this grave matter during the Friday sermons. We also hope that the Christian clergy will also do this in their religious sermons this Sunday, as Jerusalem has an important place in the hearts of more than 1.3 billion Muslims in the world. In addition, it is also holy to Christians, and we do not agree to the damaging of its religious status and its identity.'
He continued: 'Everything could collapse if they transfer the embassy to Jerusalem and damage its value and meaning, as this could open wide the door to scenarios that no one wishes for. This is because the Al-Aqsa Mosque is the first direction of prayer for the Muslims and the third holiest “Noble Sanctuary.” Jerusalem also includes holy sites important to Christians, and primarily the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.' Al-Habbash said: 'Transferring the American embassy to Jerusalem constitutes an unacceptable step as it contradicts international law, and we hope that the administration of [US] President[-elect] Donald Trump will not take such a step.’"
Fatah official: "Trump represents the Israeli policy;" since his election, Israeli "arrogance" increased
Source: Shasha, independent Palestinian news website, Jan. 11, 2017
Headline: "Muhaisen to Shasha: The arrest of Dweikat constitutes a crossing of a line by Israel and an escalation against Fatah"
"Fatah Central Committee member [and Commissioner for Diaspora Branches] Jamal Muhaisen said in an interview with [the independent Palestinian] Shasha news [website] that the arrest of [Fatah] Revolutionary Council member Talal Dweikat (He was arrested by Israel on suspicion of dealing in weapons on Jan. 11, 2017, and was released a few hours later. –Ed.) is an Israeli escalation and a dangerous crossing of a line.
Muhaisen said to Shasha [news website] that Fatah leadership member Talal Dweikat was the district governor of more than one city (sic.) and is [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas'] representative, and therefore his arrest constitutes a dangerous crossing of a line. He added that this constitutes an escalation against the Fatah Movement and the Palestinian people.
He continued and said that the Israeli occupation continues its arrogance day after day, and that this arrogance increased after the election of [Donald] Trump as president of the US. He noted that Trump represents the Israeli policy, and that since his election the acts of destruction and arrests have increased in the occupied Interior (i.e., Palestinian term for Israel), the West Bank, and Jerusalem."
Fatah spokesman: "Any step regarding transferring the American embassy from Tel Aviv to East Jerusalem will directly cause an explosion"
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, Jan. 8, 2017
Headline: "Fatah: Transferring the American embassy to East Jerusalem means an explosion of the situation in the region"
"Fatah Movement Spokesman Osama Al-Qawasmi said that East Jerusalem is a red line, and it is the capital of the Palestinian state that is recognized by the UN, and part of the Palestinian territories that were occupied in 1967. He added that any step regarding transferring the American embassy from Tel Aviv to East Jerusalem will directly cause an explosion of the situation in the region in general.
Al-Qawasmi emphasized in a press statement today, Sunday [Jan. 8, 2017], that taking any step in this matter contradicts international law and constitutes a violation of the rights of the Palestinian people that have been approved and anchored by the international bodies. Likewise, he emphasized that this step will turn the US into a side in the conflict instead of a mediator in the political process, which will have severe consequences on the security and peace in the world."

"Expert on international law, Fatah Revolutionary Council member [and Secretary-General of the PA Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places] Dr. Hanna Issa warned against igniting the region if the American embassy is transferred to occupied Jerusalem, and warned of a religious war. Issa said in an interview with Radio Mawtini today, Sunday [Jan. 8, 2017]: 'I cannot predict what the response will be to the transfer of the American embassy to Jerusalem,' and noted that if the US transfers its embassy, it will explicitly violate international law. Likewise, he warned of a new religious war, and emphasized that transferring the American embassy to occupied Jerusalem is in contradiction of the international resolutions. Issa emphasized that Jerusalem is under the administration of the occupation regime, and it is forbidden to apply sovereignty to occupied land. He noted that transferring the American embassy to Jerusalem contradicts US foreign policy, which it has expressed since 1974, according to which Jerusalem is one of the holy sites on a global level and East Jerusalem is an occupied area that is subject to the law of belligerent occupation, and it is forbidden to the occupation state to change its characteristics."

Abbas’ advisor on religious affairs: If the US moves its embassy to Jerusalem it is “a declaration of war on all Muslims”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 6, 2017

Official PA TV, Friday sermon by Supreme Shari’ah Judge and Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash, in the presence of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas

Supreme Shari’ah Judge and Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash:  "The new American administration intends to transfer its embassy to Jerusalem. In a simple, calm, and rational manner, in clear words that need no explanation and which are unambiguous: Such a step, for every Muslim, is a declaration of war on all Muslims. It's a declaration of war on all Muslims. We are no one's enemies, and we do not want to be. We are not enemies of the US and we do not want to be. However, when something harms our faith and our existence, we cannot stand by and do nothing. We will not agree to this under any circumstances. This will not pass in silence... The entire Muslim world will not accept it, and the entire Christian world will not accept it. Occupied Jerusalem is our eternal capital, the capital of our existence and the capital of our state. In politics there can be compromises here and there... In politics there can be negotiation. However, in matters of religion, faith, values, ethics, and history, there can be no compromises. Therefore, it isn't possible to compromise on or negotiate over Jerusalem. This of course does not mean that we will prevent anyone from considering Jerusalem their direction of prayer. Our Jerusalem will remain open to all believers as it has been. Open to all of the monotheists."

Erekat added in a radio interview yesterday [Jan. 4, 2017] that transferring the embassy to Jerusalem means the destruction of the peace process, and that in doing so the US will turn into part of the problem and will no longer be able to be a mediator in the peace process, which will obligate the [Palestinian] National Council to cancel its recognition of Israel and the agreements that were signed with it.”

PLO's Hanan Ashrawi reacts to Kerry's speech, rejects Israel as a Jewish state, rejects Jerusalem as Israel's capital
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 3, 2017

Official PA TV program State of Politics, hosting PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi

PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi: "The six principles that [US Secretary of State John] Kerry presented are undeniable Zionist principles that serve Israeli interests. For example, he spoke about Jerusalem - a capital of two states. He didn’t say that East Jerusalem is occupied, but rather that Jerusalem is a capital of two states... Secondly, he said “a Jewish state,” giving them [Israel] a great prize. We have refused and still refuse to say that Israel is a Jewish state... Even on the issue of the refugees, he [Kerry] automatically denied them the right of return, and said that it is necessary to reach a just solution of compensation and resettling and the like. In other words, there is no right of return."

Fatah official calls on Arab states to reexamine their relations with the US in light of US embassy move to Jerusalem
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Dec. 20, 2016
Headline: “Zaki: Transferring the American embassy to Jerusalem is a scandalous violation of the international institutions’ resolutions”
“Member of the Central Committee of the Fatah Movement and Fatah Commissioner for Arab and China Relations Abbas Zaki called on the international community to take the required steps against the new American administration, if the promise of US President[-elect] Donald Trump to transfer the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is indeed implemented.
He added that if the American administration transfers its embassy to Jerusalem, this will constitute a scandalous and blatant violation of the international resolutions, and a clear violation of the American foreign policy on the issue, as the previous administrations have not dared to do this since the occupation of Jerusalem in 1967.
Zaki said this in an exclusive statement in response to the appointment of David Friedman as US Ambassador to Israel, and in response to his [Friedman’s] statements when he said that he eagerly anticipates traveling to Israel and working from within ‘Israel’s eternal capital,’ as he put it…
Zaki said that if the American administration does indeed do this, it will expose its true face – that it is completely biased in favor of the Israeli occupation, and is not interested at all in the peace process.
He added that Arab states that still rely on the American role in the region need to raise their voices and make their firm statements on the issue heard.
Likewise, Zaki called on the Arab and Islamic states to reexamine their relations with the US.”

Senior PLO official: If US embassy is moved to Jerusalem, the "PLO needs to retract the recognition of Israel"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Dec. 20, 2016
Official PA TV program State of Politics, hosting Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee Saeb Erekat
Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee Saeb Erekat: “I tell you frankly – this is my personal opinion – in the next meeting of the Palestinian National Council (i.e., the legislative body of the PLO), if the administration of [US] President-elect [Donald] Trump moves the embassy to Jerusalem, or the ambassador who was appointed works in Jerusalem, the PLO needs to retract the recognition of Israel. Our recognition was not given for free, as [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas] said in his speech before the Seventh [Fatah] Committee…
I think that the Arab peoples also will not agree to having American embassies in any of the capitals [of the Arab states] if they [the Americans] carry out this step.”
Official PA host: “You are talking about the Arab peoples, and not the Arab governments?”
Saeb Erekat: “I am also talking about the governments.”

Headline: "Majdalani: The transfer of the American embassy to Jerusalem will turn Washington into our opponent"
"Secretary-General of the Palestinian Popular Struggle Front (PPSF) and member of the PLO Executive Committee Ahmed Majdalani said that the talk about transferring the American embassy to Jerusalem will make the foreign policy of the new American administration the same [as that of] the occupation government on everything related to the Palestinian cause; it will definitively revoke its role of mediator and sponsor of the peace process, will turn it into an opponent instead of an arbitrator, will lead to the loss of the hopes that remain for the two-state solution, and will destroy the chances for peace in the region.
PLO official tells Trump: Moving embassy will "destroy the peace process with Israel" and "drag the region into a state of anarchy"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Dec. 17, 2016
Headline: "Israel welcomes the appointment of the American Jew David Friedman as Washington's new ambassador in Tel Aviv – Erekat warns: The transfer of the US embassy to Jerusalem and the agreement to the annexation of the settlements will drag the region into anarchy – Friedman supports the settlers and casts doubt on the two-state solution…"
"Secretary[-General] of the PLO Executive Committee Saeb Erekat warned US President-elect Donald Trump yesterday [Dec. 16, 2016] against his intention to transfer the US embassy to Jerusalem. He emphasized that such a decision will destroy the peace process with Israel.
It should be noted that Trump on Thursday [Dec. 15, 2016] announced the appointment of the American Jew David Friedman as the US Ambassador to Israel. He is a lawyer who emphasized that he eagerly anticipates fulfilling his mission 'in Israel’s eternal capital, Jerusalem,' as he put it. This constitutes a most sensitive point in the region.
Erekat said in statements to journalists that the status of Jerusalem must be subject to negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis, and that making any decision today 'would destroy the peace process.' Erekat added: 'I turn directly to David Friedman and Trump - if you transfer the embassy and agree to the annexation of the settlements in the West Bank, you will drag the region into a state of anarchy, extremism, and lawlessness.' He continued [by saying] that 'The US is a state of institutions that acts in accordance with its national interests,' and added that he does not think 'that the Americans will transfer their embassy to Jerusalem.'"

Head preacher at the Al-Aqsa Mosque: US recognition of Jerusalem “as capital of the Jews,” will be “a new war against the Palestinians, the Arabs, and the Muslims”
Source: Al-Msjed Al-Aqsa YouTube channel, Dec. 16, 2016

Sermon at the Al-Aqsa Mosque

Head of the Supreme Muslim Council and head preacher at the Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Ikrima Sabri:
"My sermon will deal with... the promise [by US President-elect Trump] to transfer the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Why did [he] promise this? ... In order to please the Jews in America and the world at the expense of the right of the original people of Palestine, because transferring the embassy is an acknowledgement that Jerusalem is a capital for the Jews, and an annulment of the right of the Muslims to the city. This promise opposes the so-called international resolutions, which view Jerusalem as an occupied city and not an Israeli city... It means that America recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of the Jews. In doing so, America will declare a new war against the Palestinians and also against the Arabs and the Muslims... This is the true face of America. It is not thinking of how to achieve peace for you at all. America equipped Israel with advanced fighter jets a few days ago. America has ignited wars in most of the countries of the Arab and Muslim world, and these wars continue to burn."

Fatah Advisory Council member, Ahmed Abd Al-Rahman: "Regarding the fate of Yasser Arafat, it was after they [the Israelis] were unable to control him politically, in other words to cause him to make concessions and to submit. They did not find a solution other than eliminating him in this way... I say that they put poison into his ear a year earlier. A slow poison. And it began to work gradually and Yasser Arafat’s health deteriorated... [Former Israeli Prime Minister] Sharon said to [former US President] Bush: 'My brother, let us get rid of him and kill him' - about Arafat.
[Bush] told him: ‘Leave it to God.’
Sharon responded: 'But God needs helpers on earth.'
There was a journalist with Sharon who wrote a biography on Sharon, and this is what he noted (there are no records of such a conversation –Ed.)."
