Director of the Palestinian Women’s Union in Gaza on US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital: “Jerusalem is being raped by the Israeli occupation”
Official Palestinian Authority TV - Dec. 12, 2017

Official PA TV program Palestine This Morning, report from studio in Gaza, interview with Director of the Palestinian Women’s Union in Gaza Amal Hamad

Director of the Palestinian Women’s Union in Gaza Amal Hamad: “(Amal Hamad is asked about the influence of Palestinian women on the issue of Jerusalem –Ed.) Women are a main engine. Women are 50% of the force of society…
Now the women are required to fulfill a central and pioneering role in the Arab world and Islamic world, leading the free people of the world, for the Palestinian people’s right to an independent state whose capital is exalted Jerusalem…
I view Jerusalem as being raped. Jerusalem is being raped by the Israeli occupation. And the word ‘rape’ for us, as women, has great significance. Therefore women are required to struggle against this rape and for the Palestinian people’s right to liberation and getting rid of the Israeli occupation’s rape of Jerusalem.
America now is absolutely not a patron of the peace process, it no longer has a true role, and it is not a mediator. It has already become a partner and ally of the occupation state, and it is a party in the conflict.
The Palestinian leadership has clear standpoints: It is not meeting with American Vice President [Mike Pence], and this is a responsible and clear position. Secondly, [the leadership] has said that America has removed itself from the peace process…
The Palestinian leadership will go to the International Criminal Court to complain about America, about this decision against the Palestinian people [to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital].”

US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel - On Dec. 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump gave a speech formally recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and stating that he had instructed the State Department to begin preparations to transfer the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Trump concluded by stating that the US is still fully committed to the peace process in the Middle East. Following his speech, Trump signed the waiver to delay the transfer of the embassy, and apparently will continue to do so until preparations for the transfer have been completed.
