Fatah and Fatah officials post image that promotes intifada with map that erases Israel

Image and text posted on Dec. 18, 2017 on the official Fatah Facebook page, the Facebook page of Fatah Deputy Chairman and Fatah Central Committee member Mahmoud Al-Aloul, and Fatah Central Committee member, Fatah Commissioner of Mobilization and Organization in the West Bank, and PLO Central Council member Jamal Muhaisen

The image shows a masked Palestinian wearing a keffiyeh (Arab headdress) and throwing a rock. The PA map of “Palestine” that presents all of Israel as “Palestine” together with the PA areas appears on his shirt, and on the map Jerusalem is marked and labeled “ Jerusalem.” To the right of the rock thrower appears the number 53, representing the 53rd anniversary of the Launch (Intilaqa) of Fatah.

The post comes in response to the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital; see note below –Ed.

Intilaqa - "the Launch" refers to the beginning of Fatah on Jan. 1, 1965, when it carried out its first terror attack against Israel, attempting to blow up Israel's National Water Carrier.

US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel - On Dec. 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and instructed the State Department to begin preparations to transfer the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Trump added that the final borders of Jerusalem will be determined during negotiations.
