Libel: Israel murdered Arafat
Libels
Since the Palestinian Authority was established it has systematically indoctrinated young and old to hate Israelis and Jews. Using media, education, and cultural structures that it controls, the PA has actively promoted religious hatred, demonization, conspiracy libels, etc. These are packaged to present Israelis and Jews as endangering Palestinians, Arabs, and all humanity. This ongoing campaign has so successfully instilled hatred that fighting, murder and even suicide terror against Israelis and Jews are seen by the majority of Palestinians as justified self-defense and as Allah’s will.

Throughout history bogus conspiracy accusations have been used to incite hatred, violence, and mass murder. The myriad conspiracy libels concerning Israel, Israelis and Jews are an integral part of the Palestinian Authority’s ongoing hate promotion. PA libels claim that Israel conspires to infect Palestinians with AIDS, spread drug addiction, conspired and successfully murdered Arafat, and more. The PA’s goal has been to inculcate hatred to the degree that fighting and murdering Jews and Israelis will be glorified as heroic self-defense.
Libel: Israel murdered Arafat
When Yasser Arafat became sick and died in November 2004, the PA spread the libel that Israel poisoned Arafat. It is possible that the claim that Israel killed Arafat with poison was designed to connect Arafat with the Islamic tradition that Jews poisoned Muhammad, Islam’s Prophet:
“Aisha [wife of Muhammad] narrated: The Prophet in his ailment in which he died, used to say, "O 'Aisha! I still feel the pain caused by the food I ate at Khaibar [Jewish tribe], and at this time, I feel as if my aorta is being cut from that poison." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 59, Number 713)

Indeed, PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash made that very connection in a Friday sermon broadcast on PA TV. Al-Habbash preached that Arafat was murdered in the same way as Muhammad, repeating three times that Muhammad died from poison given to him in Khaibar - a town known for being Jewish in Islamic tradition:
"Yasser Arafat died a Martyr (Shahid) - we don't have the slightest doubt that they (i.e., the Jews/Israelis) killed him. One way or another, they killed him. Even Allah's Messenger [Muhammad] - they (i.e., the Jews) killed him with poison. When he was dying, he said to his wife Aisha: 'I feel the same pain I felt from the poison that I ate at Khaibar (Jewish village).' Poison that he ate at Khaibar. He continued to feel the pain until he died. 'I feel the same pain I felt from the poison that I ate at Khaibar.'" [Official Palestinian Authority TV, Nov. 8, 2013]

PA: Arafat died of AIDS
Countering the libel that Israel poisoned Arafat, Ahmad Jibril, Head of the PFLP-GC (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command), stated frankly on Al-Manar TV that the PA leadership is aware that Arafat died of AIDS:
"When [Palestinian Chairman] Mahmoud Abbas came to Damascus, I asked: 'What was found in the [medical] inquiry of the death of brother Arafat?' One [of the group] said: 'Frankly, the French gave us the medical report, and the cause of Arafat's death was AIDS.'" [Al-Manar (Hezbollah TV) July 5, 2007]
This information about Arafat’s cause of death has never been released to the public.

To give credence to the libel that Israel killed Arafat, the PA concocted an international conspiracy in which Israel initiated the murder plan, the US approved it (with certain conditions), and the French doctors who treated Arafat concealed the truth in order to salvage the peace process.

Investigation into the cause of Arafat’s death
In 2012, the PA decided to take samples from Arafat's remains to test if he had been poisoned. In November 2013, a Swiss and a Russian team published the results of these tests. The Swiss team concluded that the tests were "coherent with a hypothesis of poisoning." However, a member of the team also stated that "our study did not permit us to demonstrate categorically the hypothesis of poisoning by polonium." The Russian report concluded that "there was insufficient evidence to support the theory that Yasser Arafat died in 2004 by polonium poisoning." [Reuters, Nov. 8, 2013]

The circumstances surrounding Arafat’s death remain unclear, and tests have yielded inconclusive results. In response to reports about Arafat being poisoned, The Independent wrote the following in 2013:
"A leading British biomedical scientist says it is 'highly unlikely' that former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat died in a French hospital in 2004 from a lethal dose of radioactive polonium... Professor Nicholas Priest, who formerly headed the biomedical research unit of the Atomic Energy Authority in Britain, told The Independent that, while poisoning by polonium 'cannot be totally ruled out,' the symptoms were very different from those of the Russian dissident Alexander Litvinenko, who died in London in 2006... He pointed out that polonium would be naturally produced in the bones of anyone buried as a by-product of the bones absorbing lead from the soil, a point, he said, that 'the authors of the report understand but the journalists do not'... Professor Priest said it was 'far too dangerous and scientifically unjustified' to calculate how much polonium was in Arafat's body on the basis of 'such tiny concentrations of polonium.'"
[http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/british-expert-says-its-highly-unlikely-arafat-was-poisoned-8929762.html?origin=internalSearch, Nov. 8, 2013]

In March 2015, three French judges ruled that "it has not been demonstrated that Mr. Yasser Arafat was murdered by polonium-210 poisoning." The French prosecutor stated that there was "not sufficient evidence of an intervention by a third party who could have attempted to take his life." [France 24, Sept. 2, 2015] The French prosecutor also explained that the polonium and lead found in Arafat’s grave were “of an environmental nature.” [Jerusalem Post, March 17, 2015]

Despite these results denying any poisoning, the PA continues to blame Israel for Arafat’s death without any proof or backing for this claim.

The following are examples of this PA libel, in their own words:
Abbas and Fatah official accuse Israel of inciting against the Palestinian leadership and attempting to assassinate Abbas, “as they poisoned” Arafat
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 15, 2019
"In his response to the Israeli threats and to the settlers’ incitement to murder him, the president recently told members of the press in Cairo: ‘They can kill me in my home with bullets or with a missile at any given moment. They can also kill me with poison, as they poisoned the late [PLO Chairman and PA] President Yasser Arafat (sic., scientific teams have debunked this conspiracy; see note below) and killed [Palestine Liberation] Organization leaders in the past – but I will not surrender. Life is in Allah's hands, and even if they kill me, it will not solve their problems.'
President [Abbas’] advisor on Foreign Affairs [and International Relations] Nabil Shaath said: 'The Israeli incitement against President Abbas that is increasing these days is very similar to what happened to Martyr (Shahid) President Yasser Arafat, as the two leaders acted in the same way facing the pressures and refused to renounce our people’s legitimate rights.' He added: 'We are all potential Martyrs; we will continue to stand firm and will not surrender in order to save ourselves.'
Shaath noted that President Abbas is repeatedly saying in his meetings abroad that 'he will not betray his cause and will not renounce Jerusalem and the refugees' right [of return].''"

PA daily op-ed accuses Hamas of being a “Zionist pawn,” whose suicide bombings were meant to harm the PA, Arafat was “assassinated”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 6, 2019
Excerpt of an op-ed by Bassem Barhoum, regular columnist for the official PA daily

Headline: “The Zionist pawn destroys the PA TV offices”
“One who decides to break into the offices of the [Palestine] Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) while masked and to destroy and shatter everything inside it is certainly a Zionist pawn (refers to attack on PBC offices in Gaza on Jan. 4, 2019). This is because it is impossible that any patriotic Palestinian would commit this crime against a national institution whose main work is to defend the Palestinian people and its cause… Since nothing happens in the Gaza Strip without Hamas' knowledge, it bears the responsibility as the de-facto government… Let us ask ourselves in a moment of clear thinking: What has Hamas really achieved for the Palestinian people? … As much as Hamas will attempt to hide behind the word ‘resistance’… its actual activity and its results on the ground are the destruction of the Palestinian cause. Is one who behaves this way not a Zionist pawn?"

Palestinian journalist quotes Arafat about Oslo Accords: “I promise you that you will see the Jews fleeing from Palestine like mice fleeing from a sinking ship,” accuses Israel of poisoning Arafat
Source: Rai Al-Youm, independent Arab news website, Sept. 13, 2018
Article by Abd Al-Bari Atwan, Palestinian journalist and editor of the online newspaper Rai Al-Yawm:

“I remember that he [former PLO and PA President Yasser Arafat] took me aside when we left his office in the Jugurtha neighborhood of Tunis – on the pretext of going out for a walk and in order to get away from the listening devices – and he told me: ‘I want to tell you something that I ask you not to note or attribute to me, except after my death.’ He let out a sigh and said: ‘I am entering Palestine through the door of Oslo, despite all of my reservations, in order to return the PLO and the resistance to it, and I promise you that you will see the Jews fleeing from Palestine like mice fleeing from a sinking ship. This will not happen in my lifetime, but it will happen in your lifetime.’ He confirmed to me that he did not believe the Jews at all, and I swear that he spoke the truth…
President Arafat achieved the Martyrdom-death (Shahada) that he hoped for through Israeli poison (sic., this libel has been disproven by medical teams).... he brought about the outbreak of the second armed Intifada (i.e., PA terror campaign 2000-2005). He brought weapons from every possible place, and I know very well that he cooperated with and supported the Jihad fighters of the Hamas Movement in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank with money and weapons.”

Fatah official in Poland: Oslo is a stage in the path of “revolution until victory,” it led to the return of the “fighters,” Israelis killed Arafat
Source: Official Fatah Facebook page, Sept. 12, 2018
Text posted on the official Fatah Facebook page

Posted text: “The Oslo Accords:
The Oslo Accords determine that the interim stage ends within five years, and I think that we have profited from the interim stage more than is written in the clauses of the Accords. This includes the return of hundreds of thousands of members of our people, and particularly the fighters who were pressured in the Arab states.
Therefore it is necessary to add [to the achievements of Oslo] the building of a popular fighting force that forced Israel to use its entire army in order to overcome it in the second Intifada (i.e., PA terror campaign 2000-2005), and more importantly, the strengthening of the national institutions that constitute foundations for a future state.
Israel discerned the dangers of Oslo, and therefore the Israeli right-wing killed two leaders who signed the Accords – namely [former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak] Rabin and [former PLO Chairman and PA President] Martyr (Shahid) Yasser Arafat (sic., claims that Israelis poisoned and assassinated Arafat have been disproven by medical teams) – and now they are continuing on the same path in their campaign against the third leader who joined the same signing, namely brother [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas..."

PA Security Forces Spokesman Adnan Al-Damiri:
"Regarding the mystery of President Yasser Arafat’s death as a Martyr, this is a belief – and I’m one of those who are convinced that he was murdered by poisoning."
Wattan TV interviewer: "There is no proof."
PA Security Forces Spokesman Adnan Al-Damiri: "But the reports from Switzerland, Russia, and other states in the world didn’t provide clear proof on the matter..."
Wattan TV interviewer: "So how, did [PA] President [Abbas] and the [PA] government say a while ago: ‘'We know who murdered Arafat?'’’
PA Security Forces Spokesman Adnan Al-Damiri: "I, at least, don’t know. If someone said it, he should be asked."
Wattan TV interviewer: "There is no clear proof."
PA Security Forces Spokesman Adnan Al-Damiri: "I, at least, don’t know. The information that I have on the issue – which I don’t have the authority to disclose, because there is a committee on the issue and I’m not its spokesman. The little information that I have is that all the members of the Palestinian people are completely convinced that leader Yasser Arafat died as a Martyr by poisoning."
Wattan TV interviewer: "But there is no proof."
PA Security Forces Spokesman Adnan Al-Damiri: "But until now, I think that no one has published irrefutable proof and definite names [of those involved]."

Fatah official: Trump and UN Ambassador Haley have begun an "organized and planned attack against Abbas," similar to "attack against Arafat... that preceded his assassination by Israeli poison"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 27, 2018
Excerpt of an op-ed by Muwaffaq Matar, a member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council and regular columnist for the official PA daily

Headline: “The day that Mahmoud Abbas overcame Trump’s arrogance”
“[US President Donald] Trump’s representative at the [UN] Security Council [US Ambassador to the UN] Nikki Haley said in these words: ‘Palestinian [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas insulted US President Donald Trump when he opposed Washington’s role in the peace process (sic., Haley said Abbas insulted Trump in a speech in which he said: “May your house be destroyed!”).’… We must not forget a most grave matter, which is that the words of Haley and Trump will be a sort of beginning of an organized and planned attack against President Mahmoud Abbas, which reminds us of the attack against [former PA] President Martyr (Shahid) Yasser Arafat, may his memory be blessed, that preceded his assassination by Israeli poison… They are liable to harm President Mahmoud Abbas, as they did President Yasser Arafat, but who told them that a Palestinian leader who is as great as the homeland is afraid to die for the freedom of the people and the liberation of the land? They are indeed arrogant.”

"Martyr [former PLO and PA Chairman Yasser] Arafat was accused of not making concessions that could lead to the signing of an agreement that outlined the character of the independent Palestinian state. On Thursday afternoon, Sept. 28, 2000, confrontations were recorded between [Palestinian] worshippers and young angry people and the occupation police, its border guard, and its special forces, which broke into the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza in order to guard its defilement by the leader of the extremist Likud party, [later Israeli Prime Minister] Ariel Sharon, and a number of right-wing people from his party… The occupation escalated the type of confrontations, and its airplanes killed a prominent leader in the Fatah Movement, Hussein Abayat (i.e., terrorist, involved in numerous attacks), on Nov. 9, [2000,] after his car was blown up by rockets in Bethlehem… Later the rate of Israeli assassinations - including most of the Palestinian factions and their commanders - increased, the most prominent being the assassination of Yasser Arafat with poison (see note below –Ed.) after laying siege to his headquarters in Ramallah."

Official PA daily op-ed: Sharon poisoned Arafat
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Mar. 6, 2017
Excerpt of an op-ed by Bassem Barhoum, regular columnist for the official PA daily
“At this opportunity, I remind [you] that the national leader, symbol Yasser Arafat – whose office in Ramallah was besieged by the Israeli occupation army for over two years (i.e., during Operation Defensive Shield) and afterwards [former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel] Sharon assassinated him with poison (sic., claims that Arafat was poisoned have been disproven by medical examinations) – underwent a political assassination prior to that.”

Operation Defensive Shield - a large Israeli military operation in April 2002 in response to the many suicide bombings during PA terror campaign (the second Intifada, 2000-2005). Israel put Arafat under siege and invaded six of the largest West Bank cities in an attempt to destroy the terror infrastructure.
Fatah official: Israel ordered the assassination of Arafat and may try to harm Abbas as well
Source: Falestinona, website of Fatah's Information and Culture Commission in Lebanon, Nov. 23, 2016
Headline: “Dr. Amal Hamad: Whoever holds on to his Fatahness today, it is as if he is holding on to the embers”
“[Fatah’s Lebanese] Al-Quds magazine met with Fatah Movement Central Committee member Dr. Amal Hamad for an open interview about marking the anniversary of Martyr (Shahid) [Yasser] Arafat[’s death], and the situation in the Gaza Strip in everything regarding the Seventh [Fatah] Conference.” …
Q: “What point has been reached in the investigation into the death as a Martyr of [former PA] President Arafat?”
Fatah Movement Central Committee member Dr. Amal Hamad: “I have no information other than what was said by [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas during the rally to mark the anniversary, and that is that there are a number of signs and proof that they have information. The issue is a central and important issue that will continue until it is proven exactly who the hand [behind Arafat’s death] and the instrument of implementation were. We understand that the one who gave the orders was the Israeli occupation, but we just need to expose the instrument of implementation, and that is the mission of the investigative committee.”
Q: “President Mahmoud Abbas said in his speech on the anniversary of the death as a Martyr of President Arafat: ‘I will not end my life with a renouncement or a sale’ – are these signs that the president’s life is in danger?”
Amal Hamad: “…President Abbas said ‘No’ to the Americans, the Arabs, and the Israelis and maintained the basic principles. Therefore, it would not be strange if those who tried to kill Martyr Yasser Arafat would try to harm President Abbas, who maintained the same basic principles and will continue on the same path of his friend, Yasser Arafat.”
