His Highness [Jordanian] King [Abdullah II] proposed that in return for the recognition of over 54 Arab and Islamic states you [the Israelis] need to recognize a Palestinian state. When he spoke in response to the September 11 events (i.e., attacks) - there is a very significant statement by His Highness King Abdullah – he said: ‘If a solution to the Palestinian issue had been found, this event could not have occurred.’”
