Rewriting history
Heritage theft
Rewriting history
Rewriting the history of the Land of Israel in order to deny Israel's right to exist is central to Palestinian Authority (PA) policy. Long before it started the PA terror campaign (the "Intifada," 2000-2005), the PA was fighting a history war – erasing Jewish history and replacing it with a fabricated Palestinian history. This rewriting has two central goals:
1- Erase the Jewish nation's 3,000 year history in the Land of Israel;
2- Invent ancient Palestinian, Muslim and Arab histories in the land.

The goal of this historical revision as a political strategy was first expressed publicly at a conference of Palestinian historians in 1998, when rewriting history was linked to the political goal of denying Israel's right to exist:
"Dr. Yussuf Alzamili [Chairman History Department, Khan Yunis Educational College] called on all universities and colleges to write the history of Palestine and to guard it, and not to enable the [foreign] implants and enemies to distort it or to legitimize the existence of Jews on this land... [History lecturer Abu Amar] clarified that there is no connection between the ancient generation of Jews and the new generation." [Al-Ayyam, Dec. 4, 1998].

Erasing Jewish history in the land of Israel is followed by the PA’s invention of ancient and modern histories that support its political ideology and claim to the land of Israel. The Holocaust and other aspects of Jewish history are alternately denied, downplayed or distorted. Another distortion is to hide from Palestinians that Jesus was a Jew who lived in the Land of Judea/Israel. PA leaders repeatedly define Jesus as a Palestinian who preached Islam, thus denying not only Jewish history, but also the history and legitimacy of Christianity.

Citing numerous examples, this section will document that these and other historical revisions are an integral part of Palestinian policy and are used to create political ideology.
Heritage theft
The PA policy of rewriting history in order to deny Israel’s right to exist is expressed in different ways. As noted above, the PA erases Jewish history and fabricates an ancient Palestinian history in an attempt to delegitimize Israel’s claim to the land. Another expression of this PA policy is the accusation of heritage theft, in which Israel is said to steal Palestinian heritage and history. According to this logic, Israel has no heritage of its own in the land and must therefore resort to stealing Palestinian heritage in order to justify its claim to the land.

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas himself propagated this libel, reported in the PA official daily:
"President Abbas emphasized… ‘We know that they (i.e., Israelis) are trying to change its landmarks, to change our land, and to build over our homes and over the graves of our people, in order to erase the traces of the Palestinian people, but they will not succeed.'” [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 1, 2012]

The same accusation was made on PA TV by a newscaster reporting on a folkdance festival in the Ramallah district:
"[The dance groups] are directing a message to the entire world, that the Palestinian nation still retains its identity and its cultural heritage, while Israel attempts to steal this heritage." [PA TV (Fatah), July 15, 2011]

At the same time that the PA promotes the libel of Israeli heritage theft, the PA itself frequently claims Jewish history in the land of Israel as its own. Since the Palestinian Authority was established under the Oslo Accords in 1993, the PA has undertaken a rewriting of history which includes the misappropriation of Jewish history, artifacts, traditions, texts, as if they had a Palestinian historical connection.

In one striking example, the official PA paper claimed that a Hebrew shekel coin from 66 CE was in fact “an ancient Palestinian coin.” [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, March 4, 2012] The coin, with ancient Hebrew lettering that reads “Shekel of Israel [Year] 1,” can be seen above.

Similarly, a song broadcast on PA TV mimicked the Jewish biblical expression from Psalms, “If I forget thee, oh Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill” [Psalms 137:5]. The song appropriates Jewish longing for Jerusalem with lyrics that clearly imitate the Jewish biblical verse:
"May my right arm forget me, may my left arm forget me.
May the light of my eyes and the openings of songs forget me, if I forget Jerusalem."
[PA TV (Fatah), March 11, 2012]

This section documents the PA’s mimicking and expropriating of Jewish tradition as well as the libel that Israel steals Palestinian heritage in order to forge a “false” Jewish connection to the land:
PA bodies protest Israeli Ministry of Tourism maps of Jerusalem that use Jewish names for Jewish religious sites and not the Arabic names
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Apr. 6, 2016
Headline: "The presidential committee and the Foreign Ministry condemned the fact that Israel has forged tourist maps"
“The [PA’s] Higher Presidential Committee of Churches’ Affairs in Palestine and the [PA] Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the fact that the Israeli Ministry of Tourism has left important Islamic and Christian sites off the latest version of a guidance pamphlet, which includes a map of Jerusalem and is meant especially for foreign tourists… Likewise, the committee condemned the fact that the names of ancient sites in the Old City [of Jerusalem] have been changed in a way that serves the Israeli historical narrative, such as the use of 'Wailing Wall' instead of the Al-Buraq Wall, and 'Temple Mount' instead of the holy Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary."
Archaeologist on PA TV: Israel is "trying to enlist all the archaeological sites in Jerusalem in support of the alleged Jewish history in Jerusalem"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Apr. 3, 2016
Official PA TV program The Occupied Capital on Israel harming tourism in Jerusalem

Archeologist at the Israeli Arab Al-Aqsa Institute for Islamic Trusts and Heritage Abir Zayyad: "They are trying to enlist all of the archeological sites in Jerusalem in support of the alleged Jewish history in Jerusalem. We have a number of examples of this. The most conspicuous example is the city of Jebus, in the village of Silwan, where Jerusalem developed 10,000 years ago, becoming a real city 4,000 years ago. The occupation is always trying to present it to tourists as a city built by David (i.e., King David), or that David lived in, but David has no connection to the antiquities there, as the antiquities are completely Palestinian Arab."
Head of PA Jerusalem council: Palestinian heritage is "being stolen" by Israel

"Secretary-General of the PA’s Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places Dr. Hanna Issa stated… 'the Israeli occupation has stolen a large part of our cultural heritage and worked to Judaize it and change the names of the holy sites in order to find a place for itself on this land and to prove to the world that it [the land] has belonged to its forefathers for thousands of years, especially since it has media outlets working to forge history. We are not afraid of our heritage being eroded, but rather of it being stolen by the Israeli occupation.'"

PA official warns that Israel is “harm[ing”] Muslim holy sites… “stealing” them, “destroying” them, and “expelling” Jerusalem residents
Source: Donia Al-Watan (independent Palestinian news agency), Mar. 1, 2016
Headline: “Issa: Israel is harming the Islamic and Christian heritage in Jerusalem”
“Dr. Hana Issa, a lecturer and an expert in international law [and secretary-general of the [PA's] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places]… noted that ‘The occupation authorities were not satisfied with violating the Palestinians’ human rights, but went even further and harmed the holy sites. The Israeli authorities are carrying out excavations around the Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount), stealing and destroying properties and Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem, and expelling its residents. All of this is in order to eliminate the Noble Sanctuary, the Dome of the Rock, the Al-Aqsa Mosque and all of the Islamic and Christian cultural heritage around or near them.”
Fatah official: Israel “fabricates” archaeological findings in Jerusalem and even “fabricated” the falafel ball
Source: Official PA TV Live, Dec. 16, 2015
Official PA TV program The State of Politics, hosting Fatah Central Committee member Dr. Muhammad Shtayyeh, on a single political plan for all the Palestinian forces in regard to the popular resistance and what they call “Israel’s assassination policy.”
Fatah Central Committee member Dr. Muhammad Shtayyeh: “In all of the excavations under the Al-Aqsa Mosque, from 1967 until today - last week they found a seal. [In] all of the excavations from 1967 until today [they] found [only] one seal that belonged to one of the Israelite kings. What are these things? We know that they fabricate the graves. They come at night and open the graves. There is no one inside them. They place chiseled rocks on them, as though they were ancient, and ‘discover’ Jewish graves. Every day [Arab] residents of Jerusalem see these things. A country established on fabrications. They fabricated our history (i.e., claimed it as their own). They want to fabricate our culture (i.e., present it as Israeli/Jewish), and the latest thing that they have fabricated is the falafel ball.”

Note: "One seal that belonged to one of the Israelite kings" is referring to a clay impression of the royal seal of King Hezekiah of Judah (727–698 BCE), that was found in an Israeli archaeological excavation at the foot of the southern wall of the Temple Mount. This seal was the first of its kind to be found in an archaeological excavation and was publicized in the media on Dec. 2, 2015. See here for more information: http://new.huji.ac.il/en/article/28173
PA FM claims Israel and other countries steal Palestinian antiquities and artifacts
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 7, 2015
Headline: “In a speech before UNESCO –Al-Malki: ‘We want international protection for our people and its cultural and philosophical heritage, and we will persecute anyone who steals heritage [items] from Palestine.’”
“During a speech he gave yesterday [Nov. 6, 2015], Friday, at the 38th session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris, Foreign Minister of the State of Palestine Riyad Al-Malki demanded that the international community and the [UNESCO] member states fulfill their duty in face of the violation of the Palestinian people’s rights by Israel, the occupying power, and its violations against the [Palestinian people’s] property... He stated: ‘I have come to you at a time when my homeland and people are suffering from cruel aggression once again, which harms humans and stones, and does not skip children, elderly, and women; ongoing aggression by Israel, the occupying power, through which it aims to eliminate the presence of Palestinians in the land of their ancestors, where they have been planted for over 10,000 years.’ He called on the member states to fulfill their commitments and implement what was specified in the agreements of UNESCO, including a prohibition to import, export, or transfer ownership of cultural property from the occupied land of Palestine, which the occupation is illegally taking over, and returning it to its land of origin... Likewise, he condemned any harming of archeological sites in the occupied State of Palestine, and everywhere in the world, including heritage sites in Syria and Iraq.”

Embroidery project for Palestinian and Israeli women is part of “a scheme” and “Palestinian heritage theft”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 22, 2015
Op-ed by Atef Abu Al-Rab
Headline
: “Two Neighbors - a project of normalization through embroidery, and a threat of Palestinian heritage theft”
“’Palestinian and Israeli women embroider coexistence’ - this headline caught my attention and attracted me to read the article, so that I could expose the extent of the scheme against our people, and the advantage being taken of the citizens’ needs, in order to create entities capable of coexisting with the occupation... Like the rest of the normalization initiatives, this project is called Two Neighbors, out of an attempt to break down numerous barriers, create a common ground, and train women with a limited income in the art of embroidery, taking advantage of the fact that most sectors of our people are marginalized. The joint project was set up by an American couple who visited here and liked the idea of a collaboration intended to design modern clothes - that is, Israeli [clothes] - while exploiting the Palestinian embroidery in a way that would add newness to these clothes... However, the most dangerous issue is the eradication of the Palestinian heritage’s uniqueness, and the implication that the heritage and folklore in Palestine is something the Palestinian people share with the occupation forces.  With this, the occupation achieves something that is extremely dangerous, as it disseminates ideas implying that the Palestinian embroidery is a Zionist legacy, and that they have the right to market this embroidery as a Zionist Jewish legacy.”

PA daily: Israeli minister's visit to Cave of Patriarchs is "part of the occupation attack on the holy site" which was "stolen for the settlers"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 12, 2015
Headline: “The occupation’s Army Minister invades the Ibrahimi Mosque and opens the door to escalation”
“Israeli Minister of War (sic., Minister of Defense) Moshe Ya’alon invaded the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., the Cave of the Patriarchs) in Hebron yesterday [Aug. 11, 2015], as part of the occupation attack on the holy site which was divided and stolen for the settlers (i.e., separate prayer times and areas of the site were designated for Muslims and Jews…
Manager of the holy site Mundhir Abu Al-Failat stated that this invasion by Minister of War Ya’alon, together with many occupation soldiers, is part of the attempts to take over the holy Mosque of Hebron and its old city, which he considered to be a serious blow to the sanctity of the holy sanctuary, which is being desecrated by the Israeli occupation. Likewise, he emphasized that only Muslims have a right to it, and that the Jews have no connection to it…
For his part, Governor of Hebron District Kamel Hamid said that the visit of Israeli Minister of War Moshe Ya’alon to the Ibrahimi Mosque and to the old city shamefully reveals the Israeli government’s standing behind everything that is happening and that has been done to the holy places in Hebron and Jerusalem. He noted that this makes it directly responsible for the results of the situation, and the one that will bear the consequences of every step carried out by the extremist Jews, who are fully coordinated with the Israeli government.
He added that this visit and invasion are an addition of oil to the flames and an inflaming of our people’s sentiments by harming their faith and holy sites.”

The PA and its leaders consider the Cave of the Patriarchs to be a Muslim religious site with no connection to Jews. Therefore they view any presence of Jews there as an “invasion.”
PA Minister of Tourism claims Israel attacks Palestinian cultural heritage sites
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 2, 2015
Headline: “Ma'ay'a meets with the mayor of Milan, Italy, and participates in the Conference of Ministers of Cultural Heritage and Tourism”
“In Milan, Italy, the International Conference of Ministers of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (sic., International Conference of Ministers of Culture) opened, taking place on the sidelines of the Expo Milano exhibition, with the participation of ministers from more than 60 countries throughout the world, including Palestine. [Palestine was represented by] a delegation headed by [PA] Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Rula Ma'ay'a.
In her speech, Ma’ay’a demanded that the international community and international organizations fulfill their obligation in order to stop the repeated Israeli attacks against cultural heritage sites. She emphasized that these attacks, which are carried out as part of the occupation of our land and resources in addition to the continued building of the racist separation fence and settlements, constitute a clear violation of all the international conventions and treaties, which protect cultural heritage in times of war and conflict…
Ma’ay’a updated the ministers regarding the acts of destruction against Jerusalem, Hebron, and other cities. She noted that the occupation forces carry out dozens of excavations, mine tunnels, and are changing many of the landmarks of the holy city. This is in addition to the crimes perpetrated by Israel against cultural heritage during its attack against Palestinian cities in 2002 (i.e., Operation Defensive Shield), when it destroyed dozens of important sites in Nablus, Gaza, Bethlehem, Salfit, and Jenin.”

Operation Defensive Shield - a large Israeli military operation in April 2002 in response to the many suicide bombings during PA terror campaign (the second Intifada, 2000-2005). Israel put Arafat under siege and invaded six of the largest West Ba
Israel is "fascist," "based on forging of facts and history," "created and planted by... European colonialism"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 2, 2015
“The state of Israel is fascist through and through. It is hostile to [the concepts of] law, peace and coexistence between the nations, and does not believe in treaties and international laws. This state was and continues to be based on the forging of facts and history, and the theft of another people’s lands. This state, created and planted by the British, French, German, American, and European colonialism in general… will not succeed in defending its ugly colonial face.”
PA Jerusalem council: Israel “plant[s] forged antiquities” for its “plans to Judaize Jerusalem”
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, July 30, 2015
Headline: “Dr. Issa emphasized that Israel is planting antiquities in Jerusalem”
“Secretary-General of the PA’s Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places Dr. Hanna Issa stressed today [July 30, 2015] that the Israeli Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, under cover-up by the occupation government, has been making efforts since 1967 to plant forged antiquities in Jerusalem and distort a whole culture by its continuous excavations and searches under the city, which are taking place far from the eyes of the world…
Dr. Issa stated: ‘Israel and the institutions authorized by it, are carrying out searches, mainly in Jerusalem, in a desperate attempt to obtain Jewish antiquities which will give the occupation the “legitimacy” it still lacks. But truth be told, it has no presence [in Jerusalem]. At times, we see them attempting to obtain a type of religious legitimacy, in order to cover up their feverish activities and their plans to Judaize Jerusalem, even if by means of forgery or creating facts on the ground.’”
Islamic council: Israel “will not rob it [Jerusalem] of its identity, no matter how far it goes with its crimes and falsification of facts”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 24, 2015
“The [Palestinian] Supreme Fatwa Council condemned the escalation of Israeli calls to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque and hold Talmudic ceremonies (i.e., Jewish prayers) in its pure courtyards. This statement was made during a meeting of the council, led by Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and Head of the Supreme Fatwa Council Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, in response to the calls of the extremist, so-called ‘Association of the alleged Temple organizations’ to its supporters to carry out group invasions this Sunday [July 26, 2015], the anniversary of the so-called ‘destruction of the Temple’ (i.e., Tisha B’Av ). The council regarded this call as a dangerous escalation, and an official declaration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque’s inauguration as a Jewish synagogue, as well as a pilgrimage site for Jews to hold their Talmudic ceremonies (i.e., Jewish prayers) at the expense of its Islamic character, and clarified that the continued offensive against the Al-Aqsa Mosque warns of a religious war. In addition, it stressed that the Israeli plan to Judaize Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] or to lay a hand on them is a delusion , as the only ones entitled to the mosque, its courtyards, corridors, and every part of it, are the Muslims. Jerusalem will retain its Islamic face and Arab identity, and the occupation will not rob it of its identity, no matter how far it goes with its crimes and falsification of facts.”

PA Deputy Minister: "Israelis are stealing history and geography" because they have no history in Jerusalem
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, May 24, 2015

Deputy Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and member of Fatah’s Revolutionary Council, Salwa Hadib:
‎‎“Jerusalem is not only a religious city. Jerusalem is civilization. It has been a Canaanite city for ‎thousands of years. The Palestinian people has been present in it for thousands of years, whether it ‎was in Babylon, Assyria or Canaan, they [the Palestinians] gathered in the area before anything else, ‎centuries before the Jewish religion... An Israeli engineer and an archeologist brought Israeli coins – ‎shekels and agoras – and threw them on the ground before the renovation [of the Al-Karmi ‎neighborhood in Jerusalem] in order to prove, after dozens and hundreds of years, that “we (i.e., the ‎Israelis) were present here.” They are stealing history and geography.”‎

May the light of my eyes and the openings of songs forget me, if I forget Jerusalem.
May the joy in my eyes and the green world, forget me.
May every heart forget me.
May the smile of an infant forget me, if I forget Jerusalem.

May the suns forget me and may people deny me,

May he streets and the houses forget me.
May I wilt, may I wilt and die, if I forget Jerusalem.
May the joy of the day, the shadow of the houses, the sound of strings forget me,
and the laughter of every neighbor, if I forget Jerusalem.
May the smiles of children and the expectation of a meeting forget me,
the joy of a birth and the gates of the entire city,
if I forget Jerusalem."

Official PA daily: Israel stole falafel, humus, and El Al flight attendant uniforms from the Palestinians
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Apr. 22, 2015
Headline: “The Palestinian heritage is facing Judaization”
“The dean’s office for scientific research and higher studies at the Al-Quds Open University published a booklet called Our Ethnic Heritage – Between Extinction and Judaization, which included examples of thefts of our ethnic heritage carried out by the occupation.
The booklet relied on documentation of these thefts, Israeli objects, pictures, and books that expose the theft of many items from our heritage, such as Palestinian clothing, ethnic foods, and the national keffiyeh (Arab headdress).
The booklet showed the theft of the Palestinian garment in the ethnic encyclopedia in 1993 and its attribution to the occupation state. However, intensive efforts on the part of researcher Maha Al-Saqa led to the cancellation of this theft in 2007.
One of the most conspicuous Israeli thefts of Palestinian heritage was the adoption of the Palestinian garment for the uniform of the flight attendants of the Israeli company EL AL, as a picture published by the Israeli daily Jerusalem Post of a flight attendant of the company wearing the Palestinian garment shows…
In 2012, the occupation state stole the Palestinian garment decorated with the Canaanite octagonal star at an international convention for garments of the world’s peoples held in New York.
According to researcher Al-Saqa, the Israeli thefts have also spread to ethnic foods, such as falafel, humus, hyssop, and majadra, categorized in Israeli books as Israeli foods."

PA Islamic-Christian Council: Israel is "intentionally desecrating the holy sites and attacking them with fire, destruction, and defilement"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Apr. 10, 2015
Headline: “The Islamic-Christian Council demanded the persecution of those carrying out massacres of our people”
“The [PA] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places said that the occupation is continuing its massacres and crimes against our people in all ways and manners, and warned of a large massacre that will be carried out against occupied Jerusalem, and particularly the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The council said… that the extremism and Judaization steps that the occupation authorities are carrying out against the Holy City constitute a continuation of the massacres it carried out against the Palestinians, as today they are carrying out a massacre of the Arabness of Jerusalem, its ancient history, and its Islamic and Christian holy sites. The occupation authorities are intentionally desecrating the holy sites and attacking them with fire, destruction, and defilement, in addition to the theft of an entire culture, with all its details and antiquities, along with the excavation of a network of tunnels under the Old City of the occupied city, and particularly under the foundations of the first direction of prayer, and the third most holy mosque (i.e., the Al-Aqsa Mosque).”
PA official: Israel is forging and stealing antiquities in Hebron
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Apr. 3, 2015
Headline: “Warning of Judaization activities against the Cave of the Patriarchs (Ibrahimi Haram)”
“The [PA's] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places has warned against widespread excavations being carried out by groups of extremist settlers in the Building of Rest (Al-Istiraha) south of the Cave of the Patriarchs in the city of Hebron… Secretary General of the Council Dr. Hanna Issa said that the excavations in the Cave of the Patriarchs and the simultaneous extremist calls to invade the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] constitute Israeli insistence, at all levels, on desecrating the sanctity of the holy places. Likewise, he noted that mostly, the excavations are accompanied by theft and the forgery of antiquities, especially in light of the fact that the ancient city of Hebron is an archeological site rich in antiquities.”

Note: The PA considers any presence of Jews on the Temple Mount an "invasion." However, all visitors are subject to rigorous checks by Israeli security personnel before being granted access to the Temple Mount.

Official PA TV reporter: “In the 48 years of ‎its existence, the occupation has carried ‎out over 64 excavations beneath the Al-‎Aqsa Mosque and its environs, to search ‎for remains that fit the Judaization ‎narrative for Jerusalem, as Israel presents ‎it.”‎
Fakhri Abu Diab, member of the Silwan ‎and Al-Bustan Neighborhood Defense ‎Committee: “This museum, all the ‎Umayyad palaces and the [archeological] ‎remains in Jerusalem that [Israel] stole. ‎‎[Israel] gathers them in this area and then ‎treats them in a way that obscures [their ‎origin], whether the remains are Islamic, ‎Byzantine or Roman. It obscures them ‎and then carves Hebrew inscriptions on ‎them, [to make it seem as if] this area was ‎the historical homeland of the Jewish ‎people, and as if these properties and ‎artifacts were from the period of the first or ‎second Temple…”‎
Official PA TV reporter: “These are ‎systematic crimes against the Holy City, ‎‎[carried out in order] to search for ‎‎[archeological] remains that support the ‎occupation’s Judaization narrative. PA Mufti warns of "Israeli plan to Judaize Jerusalem" and "steal" its "Islamic character" via "falsification of facts"
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Feb. 12, 2015
Headline: "Grand Mufti warns of the naming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque 'Temple Mount'"
"[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and Preacher at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein warned about the placement of a sign by the occupation [Jerusalem] municipality near the Council Gate ( i.e., entrance to the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount), with the inscription, 'Temple Mount.' The Mufti said this step came as part of the attempts to divide the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque between Muslims and Jews, extend their influence over it and establish facts on the ground inside it, like what happened at the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs) in Hebron, in order to realize their aspirations to build the alleged Temple on the ruins of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Mufti explained that with the elections of the occupation authorities approaching, all the parties are trying to draw the votes of the extreme right by increasing the attack on the Palestinian people and its holy places. He emphasized that the Israeli plan to Judaize Jerusalem and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to lay hands on them, is an illusion, because the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque with its courtyards, porticoes and all [other] parts, both those above ground and those below - is the exclusive right of Muslims. He also noted that Jerusalem would retain its Islamic character and Arab identity, and that the occupation would not steal its character and identity, no matter how long it continues its crimes and its falsification of facts."
