Op-ed by Issa Abd Al-Hafiz
“[He was] born in Hebron on Feb. 14, 1952, and joined national activity early, while still in high school. He was arrested in 1968-9 before he finished high school… Among the important operations (i.e., terror attacks) he carried out together with Abu Hassan Qassem was the Daboya operation (i.e., terror attack, 6 murdered, 20 injured), in which the two succeeded in bringing a group of young fighters from the student brigade into the West Bank, and more specifically, into Hebron. The Daboya operation was a turning point of [high] quality in the activity of the Palestinian struggle in 1980. It was not a suicide operation, but rather an offensive operation against armed settlers in the heart of Hebron, which turned it into a quality operation in every way. 13 armed settlers fell in the operation, and members of the [Palestinian] squad succeeded in hiding in the city and its mountains.”
