Abbas condemns terror attack in Egypt in which 7 were killed, says “this act of terror that contradicts all values… and the monotheistic religions”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 3, 2018
Headline: "The [PA] president expressed his condolences to his Egyptian counterpart and to [Coptic] Pope [of Alexandria] Tawadros [II] over the victims of the terror attack: We stand by the big sister Egypt before the dark terror"

"[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his condolences to his Egyptian counterpart [Egyptian President] Abdel Fattah El-Sisi over the victims of the terror attack that was committed yesterday [Nov. 2, 2018] against a bus transporting priests to a monastery in the Al-Minya district of upper Egypt, and which led to the death as Martyrs (Shahids) of seven Egyptians and to the wounding of an additional 14.
The president expressed his strong condemnation of this act of terror that contradicts all values, human norms and morals, and the monotheistic religions.
The president emphasized the solidarity of Palestine and that it stands alongside the big sister Egypt before the dark terror that has no religion or morals, and asked of almighty Allah to protect Egypt and its people - the brother in security, prosperity, and stability – to have mercy on the souls of the victims, and to grant a speedy recovery to the wounded."

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas rejects all negotiations with the US if Jerusalem and refugee problem are off the table
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Feb. 6, 2018
Official PA TV, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ speech at the opening event of the Jerusalem the Capital of the Islamic Youth 2018 conference at the PA headquarters in Ramallah

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “Not only have [the Americans] taken Jerusalem off the table, but they have also spoken about UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) in order to take the issue of the refugees off the table, while they caused the refugee problem. They are the central problem for the refugee problem. Nevertheless, they said: ‘The refugees are off the table, let’s talk together.’ What will we talk about? If you have taken out the refugees and Jerusalem, what will we talk to you about? We will not talk to you under any circumstances!"

On Jan. 25, 2018, US President Donald Trump held a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. Referring to how he officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital on Dec. 6, 2017, Trump told Netanyahu: "We took Jerusalem off the table.” When asked by a reporter whether Jerusalem being “off the table" meant that none of it would be part of a future Palestinian state, Trump refused to elaborate, responding: "Next question." Trump also said that the US would stop providing financial aid to the PA if they did not return to negotiations with Israel.

In early January 2018, the US froze two planned payments to UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) for more than $100 million, and the US administration spoke about the need to reexamine and conduct a reform of the UN body. This occurred after the PA refused to negotiate with Israel and cut diplomatic ties with America following US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital on Dec. 6, 2017.

Abbas: “Jerusalem is the gate to peace… only when it will be the capital of the State of Palestine, and …it is, God forbid, the gate to war, fear, and the lack of security and stability if it is not”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 17, 2018
Official PA TV, special broadcast for the Al-Azhar Conference in Cairo, on US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “After [the US] has stood unequivocally alongside the occupation and imposed a reality upon us that leaves us no choice but to turn to all of the other options available to us to defend our rights, we will turn to all of the options – but we will not turn to terror and violence. Indeed violence and terror are rejected [by] all states of the world and us, but we have our other means through which we will turn to receive our rights, with all of these options – [to turn] back to our nation’s public so they will fulfill their role in defending Jerusalem, in addition to internationalizing the conflict with the occupation, and continuing to join the international organizations and alliances as an authentic right of the State of Palestine…
[US] President [Donald] Trump’s decision does not give Israel any legitimacy in Jerusalem and does not give the occupation a right to its land or its skies. This Jerusalem has always been a Palestinian, Arab, Islamic, and Christian city. And it is the eternal capital of the State of Palestine, and without it there cannot be peace in the region nor in the entire world – as long as Jerusalem is not liberated in all of its borders that we want from the Israeli occupation. Jerusalem is the gate to peace for everyone only when it will be the capital of the State of Palestine, and it is also the gate to war if it is not already- it is, God forbid, the gate to war, fear, and the lack of security and stability if it is not [the capital of Palestine]. It is the gate to war and peace and Mr. Trump must decide.”

Fatah official: Abbas, like Arafat, used to support “armed struggle,” but now supports “popular resistance… [but] we have not given up the option of the rifle… the means need to serve the political goal”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Nov. 10, 2017
Official PA TV host: “I’m returning with you, [Fatah Movement Spokesman] Dr. Osama Al-Qawasmi, to the history of Yasser Arafat.... At the time of the self-sacrificing operations and armed struggle, Yasser Arafat and the Fatah Movement were at the head of the self-sacrificing operations that dealt with military activity on the ground. And when the time for policy came, Yasser Arafat excelled in this path as well, and it may be that he achieved more from it than was achieved in the military activity. [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas is continuing the diplomatic political activity, embarrassing Israel in the halls of the UN, and achieving the [fitting] status for Palestine.”

Fatah Movement Spokesman and Fatah Revolutionary Council member Osama Al-Qawasmi: “Certainly, when Fatah was established at the beginning of January 1965 relying on armed struggle, it did [not] think that armed struggle was the goal, but rather that the rifle was a means, and that this is a legitimate right for all of the peoples who are bowing under occupation. There was a disagreement in the [Fatah] Central Committee... President Mahmoud Abbas supported armed struggle because they wanted to let the world hear the complaint of the Palestinian people through the rifle, bomb, and battles… The wars have changed. Today we rely on the popular resistance and building the institutions, [but] we have not given up the option of the rifle at all, but because we have a goal – and the means need to serve the political goal – we rely on the popular resistance, national unity, strengthening of the Palestinian people’s resolve, and building of the institutions..."

Abbas encourages Jerusalem riots: “We are with you in all that you have done and are still doing, you are causing us pride”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 26, 2017
“At the beginning of a meeting of the [PA] leadership yesterday evening [July 25, 2017], [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas said that as long as the situation in Jerusalem does not return to being as it was before July 14, [2017], there will be no changes whatsoever (refers to Israeli security measures at the Temple Mount following a terror attack there that were later removed; see note below –Ed.). The president added: ‘All of the new Israeli steps on the ground from that date until today need to stop, and then the situation in Jerusalem will return to normal. Afterwards we will continue our work on everything regarding the relations between us and them.’ The president said: ‘Since Israel tried to change the situation, the [Palestinian] residents of Jerusalem have risen as one (i.e., they launched violent riots –Ed.) You have objected to all of the [Israeli] steps, and we have supported you in what you have done and what you are doing. We are with you in everything that you have done and are still doing, as you are causing us pride, and you are taking care of your Al-Aqsa Mosque, your land, your dignity, your people, your religion, and your holy sites. This is the response to everyone who wants to harm our holy sites. Jerusalem is ours. It is our capital and it is [under] our sovereignty, and therefore what you [Palestinians] are doing is right.’"’

Abbas: We will cancel the security coordination with Israel, but I personally am in favor of it
Source: Al-Watan (Qatar), Mar. 16, 2017
[Q:] "Your Honor the President… we will ask you about the circumstances of the issue of Martyr (Shahid) Basel Al-A'araj (i.e., head of terror cell killed while shooting at Israeli soldiers who came to arrest him, see note) and his five comrades that is preoccupying the Palestinian street... Do we understand from Your Honor that the security coordination between you and Israel was not the reason for Basel Al-A'araj's death as a Martyr?"
[Abbas:] "The Palestinian security coordination with Israel is a different matter, and what happened with Basel is not connected to the security coordination. We have decided to cancel the security coordination. It remains for us to choose the appropriate time for this, and that is the PLO's responsibility, in coordination with me. There are members of the Palestinian people who support the security coordination, and there are those that oppose it, and everyone has their own opinion. However, we must criticize it with respect for the opinion of the other, and there are those who criticize me on Facebook and other [places] because I am in favor of the security cooperation."

Fatah official: Shimon Peres was a "murderer and a criminal," Abbas attended his funeral because of international pressure
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Oct. 11, 2016
Official PA TV program State of Politics, hosting Fatah Commissioner for Mobilization and Organization and Fatah Central Committee member Mahmoud Al-Aloul, on the criticism against PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas for attending the funeral of former Israeli President Shimon Peres on Sept. 30, 2016
Fatah Commissioner for Mobilization and Organization and Fatah Central Committee member Mahmoud Al-Aloul: “Indeed in the last few days there has been a dispute and commotion, and that has a connection to the opposition that is being talked about, opposition to [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas in general], or opposition to his going to the funeral of… [former Israeli President] Shimon Peres, the murderer and the criminal. That is what I say about him: the murderer and the criminal. If I say that he is a murderer and a criminal, that is a different matter [than Abbas’ attendance at the funeral]. I can completely understand the step taken by the president when he went to the funeral. He is the president of the Palestinian people and the responsibility placed on him is different from the responsibility placed on me. I did not go [to the funeral], and I say that he (i.e., Peres) was a criminal. The president [Abbas] is a different matter; the president has different obligations regarding this. The entire world called him. French President [Francois Hollande], who intends to hold the international conference on which we are pinning many hopes, called him. The president has obligations that other people, who are heads of [Palestinian] factions, are free of. However, they have the right to criticize and oppose.”

Analyst on PA TV: Abbas visit to Peres' funeral will bring us positive international attention, just like our humanitarian treatment of Gilad Shalit
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Oct. 1, 2016
Official PA TV program Inside, about the treatment of captive Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit and PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ participation in the funeral of former Israeli President Shimon Peres, hosting political analyst Hani Abu Zaid
Political analyst Hani Abi Zaid is asked about the criticism against PA Chairman Abbas for participating in the funeral of former Israeli President Shimon Peres.
Political analyst Hani Abi Zaid: “However, those criticizing [PA President Mahmoud Abbas for participating in the funeral of former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres] do not know that [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas] made a humane visit that has no political standing, but rather as I noted [was made] to block the path of the ]Israeli] extremist government…
Let me give you an example. We, with our cultural and religious heritage, when [Israeli soldier] Gilad Shalit was taken captive, did we torture him? Did we starve him? Did we treat him harshly? No one has criticized this treatment [of Shalit]. Therefore, this treatment is part of the treatment of prisoners, even though he is a soldier, and possibly also a murderer... Despite this, the humanitarian side to his captivity [is that] he was treated as a prisoner of war. Therefore, in light of the expected results we guarded his life. For this reason we tried as much as possible to gain benefit and [positive] results from this treatment. Therefore, the visit of President Abbas and his participation in the funeral has very great positive ramifications.”

Gilad Shalit was an Israeli soldier who was kidnapped and held hostage by Hamas for more than 5 years. During that time, he was denied visits from the International Committee of the Red Cross and was not allowed communication with his family, in violation of his rights under the Geneva Convention. Day after murder of Israeli mother of 6, Abbas: “We are against spilling of blood… our resistance will remain peaceful”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 18, 2016
The day after 15-year-old Palestinian terrorist Morad Adais stabbed 38-year-old Israeli Dafna Meir to death in her home in the town of Otniel, south of Hebron, in front of her children, Abbas maintained that the Palestinian "resistance" is “peaceful,” thus denying the many shooting and stabbing attacks in which dozens of Israelis have been murdered and wounded.
Official PA TV live broadcast from the Armenian Theophany (anniversary of Jesus Christ's baptism) celebrations in Bethlehem, where PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas gave a speech:
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “We are against spilling of blood, the blood of any human being. Their sex, race, or religion make no difference to us. A human being is a human being… We are all human beings, and therefore we make every effort to prevent the spilling of a drop of anyone's blood. Therefore we say to our brothers and people: We are in a state of despair, and we know that the doors are shut before us, and that the Israeli leadership is trying to shut all doors, but our resistance will remain peaceful, and we will never ask to do anything different. On the contrary, every day we have 3 or 4 Martyrs (Shahids), without any reason or justification.”

Morad Adais – 15-year-old Palestinian terrorist who stabbed 38-year-old Israeli Dafna Meir to death in front of her children in her home in Otniel, south of Hebron, on Jan. 17. 2016. Adais was apprehended and arrested after two days by Israeli security forces.

Fatah spokesman: Abbas is leading the “popular uprising”
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, Jan. 7, 2016
Headline: “Fatah: The president [Abbas] strives to stop the suffering of our people in Gaza”
“Fatah Spokesman Fayez Abu Aita… emphasized in a press statement published by the [Fatah] Information and Culture Commission today [Jan. 7, 2016], Thursday … that it is necessary to take into account the difficult and sensitive situation our people is experiencing, as it fights the battle for independence and an [independent] state, led by President Mahmoud Abbas, through the blessed popular uprising and the unlimited political confrontation with the occupation in the UN corridors and the International Criminal Court.’”

Only days after 4 Israelis murdered, Abbas calls “uprising” “peaceful”, inflames Palestinians, says Israel desecrates Al-Aqsa Mosque
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 12, 2015
Headline: “Mahmoud Abbas: The occupation is responsible for what is happening, and the continuation of the settlers’ provocations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque will lead to disastrous consequences”
“The president met yesterday [Oct. 11, 2015] evening with Secretaries of [Fatah’s] sub-branches and representatives of Fatah’s Shabiba (i.e., Fatah student movement) in the homeland’s northern districts (i.e., the West Bank), at the Presidential Headquarters in Ramallah. He briefed them on the latest political developments and expressed his appreciation of their efforts to establish the Palestinian cause as a central cause in the region which must stand at the top of the international community’s priorities.  The president stated that the one responsible for what is happening is the occupation, which continues to desecrate our holy sites in Jerusalem, protects the settlers in their attacks against our people, and avoids fulfilling its obligations as stipulated in the agreements signed between the two sides until a permanent arrangement is reached. He added that the Israeli government gives free rein to the settlers, who are attacking our holy sites and our people, blocking roads, and burning crops.  The president emphasized that the Fatah movement will remain the backbone of the Palestinian revolution, and continue to lead the struggle for liberation through popular peaceful resistance, and to adhere to national principles, especially the establishment of our independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

Abbas made these statements only a few days after 4 Israeli civilians were murdered by Palestinians.

Abbas advisor says PA supports “peaceful acts of resistance” but justifies Palestinian violence as “defense” and a “result of the actions of the occupation
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 5, 2015
Headline: “Hammad: ‘The latest operations are a response to the settlers’ actions”
“Dr. Nimer Hammad, political advisor to President Mahmoud Abbas, stated that the Israeli escalation in Jerusalem and the West Bank are meant to drag the Palestinians into a cycle of violence.  Hammad said in a statement published by the Donia Al-Watan news agency that the Palestinian defense ‘is not interested in igniting the third intifada,’ and noted that Israel is interested in violence at this stage, because it thinks that it serves its interests to show the Palestinian leadership as encouraging violence…
Hammad emphasized that ‘the leadership will support all peaceful acts of resistance,’ and emphasized that this was always the position of the leadership, especially during the latest meetings. The president’s advisor said that peaceful resistance is the best way to confront the occupation, and brought as an example an event that occurred yesterday [Oct. 4, 2015], Sunday, in Jenin, when thousands of [Palestinian] citizens stood against the occupation forces which tried to arrest one of the citizens.
In regard to the events carried out by individuals that occurred recently in Jerusalem and the West Bank (i.e., stabbing and shooting attacks against Israelis), Hammad said: ‘These responses occurred as a result of the actions of the occupation and settlers, who are brought in buses under protection of the occupation forces.’”

Abbas to Israelis: "We don’t want an Intifada and have not called for one"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Oct. 30, 2014
Official PA TV broadcast an interview with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Israeli Channel 2
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “I told people frankly: We want to protect our holy places. To protect them peacefully, and therefore, people are going there to protect Jerusalem peacefully. Where is the tension that emerged from my mouth (This is an allusion to Israel’s claim that the present deterioration is the result of incitement by the Palestinian leadership, -Ed.)? I say: We must protect them… We don’t want an Intifada and have not called for one... It is the Israeli media and many Israeli leaders that are demanding and encouraging a third Intifada. We are not for a third Intifada. We are for peaceful popular resistance to protect our rights, neither more nor less... We extend our hands to you in peace. We say to the [various] layers of the Israeli people: Let us engage in dialogue, so that we may live in peace and stability… I entreat the Israeli people, which has demanded of its government not to miss the opportunity for peace – for evil is all around us, and you know the terrorism and violence that surround us… When the situation here changes; when peace comes, all manifestations of terrorism in the Middle East will cease and peace between us will return.”

Abbas: PA will not disarm "the Resistance [Hamas]"
Source: Sada El-Balad TV (Egypt)‎, Aug. 23, 2014
Sada El-Balad TV host: “Mr. President, honestly, and tell me clearly in front of everyone ‎‎– did Egypt, at any point, say ‘we’ll disarm or agree to disarm the Resistance [Hamas]’?”‎
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “It [Egypt] never said that. It was the US Secretary of ‎State who once said that to me … He told me: ‘disarm.’ I told him: ‘Yes, once I have one ‎state, one law, one rifle and one government, then you ask me to disarm. Not now. ‎Give me a state and then I’ll decide.’ Egypt didn’t demand this – Israel did… Since the ‎coup against the PA and to this day, we’ve been transferring more than 50% of our ‎budget to Gaza, including [salaries] to 60-70 thousand civil servants who aren’t ‎working. They are [in Gaza] and are receiving salaries. We pay them, because they’ve ‎been prevented from working. Hamas came [to power after the coup] and appointed ‎other people in their place.”‎

Fatah: Abbas promotes violence in name of Islam
Source: Facebook, Fatah - The Main Page, July 28, 2014

"Fatah - The Main Page"
Abbas: "In the name of Allah the Merciful 'Permission [to fight] has been given to those who are being fought, because they were wronged. And indeed, Allah is competent to give them victory.'"
Song accompanies scenes of violence:
"Protect the sanctuary and protect them
Knights of the sanctuary are holding the flags
Whenever they [Israelis] go crazy, and when our eyes are closed
We open our eyes on the sanctuary and its borders
When the land calls its men, it finds us as shining swords
There's nothing more precious. We kneel only to the Creator
When the land calls its men, it finds us as shining swords
There's nothing more precious. We kneel only to the Creator."

Abbas "gave the sign to let the West Bank street loose"
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, July 25, 2014
Op-ed by Muhannad Ubeid
Headline: "
A single Quranic verse ignited the West Bank"
"[Mahmoud] Abbas realized that by staying outside the arena, he would be excluded from the political game. He also knows that the [Palestinian] street in the West Bank is ready for an explosion. Therefore, he gave the sign to let the [Palestinian] street in the West Bank loose. Isn't the Quranic verse he quoted during his last speech, "Permission [to fight] has been given to those who are being fought, because they were wronged. And indeed, Allah is competent to give them victory" [Sura 22:39, trans. Sahih International] a clear sign to loosen the reins on the street?
Furthermore, what is the meaning of Fatah Central Committee member Tawfiq Tirawi's statement regarding the West Bank's need to enter into an armed Intifada? It's been a long time since we heard a member of the Fatah leadership talk about weapons. The West Bank's entrance into the line of confrontation will reshuffle the cards, and the action is still just beginning. Israel will not agree to a third Intifada, and this is precisely what Abbas wants. He wants Israel to knock on his door in order to find a solution."

Abbas promotes violence quoting Quran: "‎Permission [to fight] has been given to those who ‎are being fought‎"

Abbas' quoting the Quran at the end of this speech - ‎“Permission [to fight] has been given to ‎those who are being fought, because ‎they were wronged. This speech sparked Palestinian rioting in Jerusalem and the West Bank. ‎

PA Chairman ‎Mahmoud Abbas concluded the speech ‎with a quote from the Quran:
“Permission ‎‎[to fight] has been given to those who ‎are being fought, because they were ‎wronged. And indeed, Allah is ‎competent to give them victory.” [Sura ‎‎22:39, trans. Sahih International]

Abbas defends PA search for teens, criticizes Israel for wreaking "havoc and destruction"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, June 18, 2014
Official PA TV broadcast the conference of the foreign ministers of the Islamic countries
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: "As for the Israeli government, it is causing a sharp escalation, and this is a new problem we are facing. The reason is the kidnapping of three boys near one of the settlements. Naturally, despite their [Israel's] presence in Area C, which is not under our security control, and despite the fact that they did not report the incident when it occurred, but over 12 hours later, we are [working] in coordination with them in order to find these boys, because they are, first and foremost, human beings, and we want to protect human lives. Even the Americans have told us that one of them is an American, and we answered that, whether American or Israeli, for us he is a human being and we must look for this human being and return him to his family. But the Prime Minister [Netanyahu] has found a suitable opportunity to use violence against us, to destroy everything and wreak havoc and destruction throughout the land, especially in the Hebron area... The truth is that whoever committed this act (the kidnapping) wants to destroy us; therefore, we will talk to them differently and hold a different position, whoever it was that committed this action. Because we cannot endure such actions; we cannot confront the State of Israel - neither militarily nor in any other way."
