Released prisoner: Salaries for prisoners and their families must continue

“Released prisoner Tawfiq Abu Na’im said: ‘… In light of the difficult situation, and in spite of the wounds, we must be united in the common issues and put to use the mechanisms of [creating] solidarity with the prisoners and [obtaining] their release.’ In addition, he demanded to increase visits to their [the prisoners’] families during the [Festival of Sacrifice] holiday and stated the need to continue [paying] salaries (rawatib) to prisoners or released [prisoners] because the families rely mainly on these salaries.”

Note: Tawfiq Abu Na’im – convicted of kidnapping and murder and sentenced to on life sentence in May 1989. PMW has been unable to verify the specific circumstances of his crime. He was released in October 2011 in the Shalit exchange – in which the Israeli government agreed to release 1,027 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prison in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who had been held hostage by Hamas for more than 5 years.
