“The prisoners from the PA Security Forces in Gaza said that the reduction that the [PA] unity government carried out in last month’s (i.e., March 2017) salaries of the [public] employees in the Gaza Strip also included them. Prisoners noted in separate interviews with the [independent Palestinian news] agency Safa that 30-40% was deducted from their salaries, exactly like all the rest of the PA employees in Gaza. The prisoners described the step that was carried out against them as ‘arbitrary, not national, and irresponsible,’ and demanded that the Fatah leadership and [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas intervene urgently to compensate them and again pay their full salaries. Safa spoke with a number of prisoners in the Nafha Prison, where there are 23 prisoners from the PA Security Forces in Gaza all of whom had part of their salaries deducted, along with [additional] prisoners in other prisons.”
