“Yesterday [June 30, 2013] a 21 year-old man set himself on fire in front of the Ministry of Finance offices in the city of El-Bireh in a suicide attempt to protest the fact that the Ministry of Prisoners’ Affairs does not allot him a monthly salary.
The young man, Wisam Bilal Khalil Ma’aruf, from the Tulkarem District, set fire to himself yesterday morning in front of passersby after immersing himself in a flammable substance; however security guards saved his life…
Ma’aruf is demanding that the Ministry of Prisoners’ Affairs allot him a monthly salary. Any person who was imprisoned for over five consecutive years is entitled to this allowance.”
