PA daily op-ed: Western countries had “colonialist malicious intent to carry out the crime of the modern era,” i.e. Israel’s establishment, “by giving a state to one who is not entitled [to it]”

Headline: “Happy new year to Fatah and the revolution”

Excerpt of an op-ed by Omar Hilmi Al-Ghoul, regular columnist of the official PA daily

“The [Palestinian] leadership has adopted several political directions, [including] suing the British Mandate state for issuing the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) even before stepping foot in Palestine, and before the League of Nations gave it the mandate to it (i.e., Palestine) in 1922. This proves that the colonialist countries of the West in general, and Britain in particular, had colonialist malicious intent to carry out the crime of the modern era, by giving a state to one who is not entitled [to it] on the lands of the original residents of the land, members of the Palestinian Arab people.”

The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people” and is seen as the basis for later international commitments to establish the State of Israel.
