Fatah official demonizes Israel, claims Israeli security guard in Jordan -who was attacked, killed attacker “with no justification”

"The Al-Quds monthly interviewed Fatah Movement Central Committee member, [Fatah Commissioner of Mobilization and Organization in the West Bank, and PLO Central Council member] Dr. Jamal Muhaisen.
[Q:] Do you think 'Israel' (quotation marks in the original -Ed.) is trying to marginalize the role of the PA by creating contact with regional parties regarding the Palestinian issue, far from the PA’s role in this matter?
[Jamal Muhaisen:] 'After the operation (i.e., terror attack, 2 murdered) that young people from Umm Al-Fahm carried out at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, a telephone call took place between [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas and [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu, in which it was stated that no change would be implemented in Jerusalem. President Mahmoud Abbas traveled to China, and afterwards the metal detectors were placed [at the entrances to the Al-Aqsa Mosque] (refers to security measures implemented following the terror attack; see note below –Ed.). Our position was clear, and it was that it is not possible to be silent about the new situation that was created after the morning of July 14, 2017. We appreciate all of the efforts invested by all of the Arab and Islamic peoples and our friends in the international arena, and especially Jordan’s exceptional position that differed from all of the positions of the other countries, particularly as the holy sites in Jerusalem are under the patronage of King Abdullah [II], and he is also the head of the Arab [League] Summit. Jordan's position was also more severe after the crime that ‘Israel’ perpetrated against Jordanian citizens with no justification (refers to an Israeli security guard who defended himself from a terrorist and accidentally killed a bystander in the process; see note below –Ed.), and the fact that Netanyahu received the criminal murderer and held a provocative telephone conversation with him."

On July 24, 2017, Israel decided to remove the metal detectors and security cameras it had placed at the site. The PA continued to demand that all measures including inspections at the entrances be removed, and Palestinians continued to riot. On July 27, 2017, PA religious leaders declared that all Israeli measures had been removed.

Moyal accidentally shot and killed a bystander in the process, and took refuge in the embassy. Amid Jordanian threats to sentence him to death, the following day Israel secured his return and the return of the entire embassy staff, opened an investigation into the incident, and agreed to pay compensation to the family of the bystander.
