Fatah official: The PA should become an “authority of resistance”

Headline: “Shtayyeh speaks with Donia Al-Watan regarding the change in the role of the PA, the position of vice president, and the division of roles in the [Fatah] Central Committee”

“Fatah Central Committee member Muhammad Shtayyeh said… in an exclusive interview with [the independent Palestinian news agency] Donia Al-Watan…: ‘We should not continue in the existing situation, and we should not break up the PA… What I want is to change the role of the PA. It should not continue to be an authority of services, but rather it should become an authority of resistance, and we are not talking about armed resistance here, but rather popular resistance (This term has been used by PA and Fatah leaders to describe the wave of Palestinian terror attacks 2015-2016 which included stabbings, shootings, and car rammings –Ed.) that is anchored in international law. We do not want to break up the PA or to continue in the existing situation, and the PA is sinking daily and has become an upside-down pyramid that is deteriorating every day. We do not want to go back to square one.”

The terms "all means," "peaceful uprising,” and “popular resistance" are ‎often used by PA leaders to refer to events that include violence and deadly terror ‎against Israeli civilians such as rock-throwing, stabbings and even shootings. See ‎Mahmoud Abbas' reference to murderous terror as "peaceful" during the 2015-2016 ‎terror wave (“The Knife Intifada”), which included numerous stabbings, shootings and car ramming attacks in which 40 people were killed (36 Israelis, 1 Palestinian, 2 Americans and 1 Eritrean) and hundreds wounded: http://palwatch.org/main.aspx?fi=157&doc_id=16437
