Fatah official refers to violent riots on the Gaza border as “peaceful resistance” and warns that the PA leadership will not be able to keep the resistance peaceful for long in wake of US embassy opening in Jerusalem

“Fatah Movement Deputy Chairman [and Fatah Central Committee member] Mahmoud Al-Aloul said: ‘The crimes and massacres that the occupation is committing against our people, and the fact that it is dealing with the peaceful resistance (refers to violent mass riots on the Gaza border that have included explosives and gunfire –Ed.) with gunfire will result in us being unable to preserve the peaceful nature of the resistance.’ He added: ‘This is not because we want it, but rather because of the occupation’s actions.’
During a press conference that he convened yesterday [May 15, 2018] at the Fatah Commission of Information, Culture, and Ideology building in Ramallah to mark the 70th anniversary of the Nakba (i.e., “the catastrophe,” Palestinian term for the establishment of the State of Israel), and on the topic of the consequences of transferring the American embassy to occupied Jerusalem, he explained: ‘We desire popular and peaceful resistance, and that is our choice against the occupation.’”
US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel - On Dec. 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Trump added that the final borders of Jerusalem will be determined during negotiations.
The US embassy opened in Jerusalem on May 14, 2018, the anniversary of Israel's declaration of independence in 1948 according to the Gregorian calendar.
