while 861 Martyrs fell from Fatah”

Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party continues to call for launching rockets at Israel. In a video it posted on Facebook, produced by Fatah’s military wing the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, Fatah praises as a “heroic Martyr” a member of its military wing who was killed while launching rockets at Israeli cities from the Gaza Strip. A song in the video endorses launching rockets at Israel to “make the sons of Zion tremble and burn”:

“Fire RPGs, launch the KN rockets (i.e., mid range rockets)
Shoot, Muhammad, do not fear,
Sow terror among the enemy’s soldiers ...
Launch your rockets,
Make the sons of Zion tremble and burn.”

Fatah’s active military involvement in the Gaza War also was indicated by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, who announced that Fatah lost 17 times more people than Hamas:

“President [Mahmoud] Abbas said... during a meeting with Egyptian journalists and intellectuals, in Cairo... that the number of Martyrs (Shahids) from Hamas during the aggression against Gaza (i.e., Gaza war) was only 50, while 861 Martyrs fell from Fatah. He emphasized: ‘Israel is responsible and it is the one attacking our people in the Gaza Strip. It is responsible for what’s going on. Of course, it is Israel that killed.”

The new Fatah video repeatedly praises the dead Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades’ member Muhammad ‘Al-Za’anin’ for attacking Israelis during the Gaza war:

“He carried a rifle, and bombarded the depths of the [Zionist] entity with rockets”
“He believed that armed resistance was the only way to liberate Palestine”
“[He] loved military activity”
“[He] inflicted pain on the occupation (i.e., Israeli cities near the Gaza Strip) time after time.”

An earlier Fatah video used similar threatening language and showcased Fatah's KN rockets, as revealed by Palestinian Media Watch last year:

“Praise Allah, our Jihad fighters have managed to develop these rockets so they will reach the Zionist depth [Israel], Allah willing, to a distance of 45 km. inside the occupied Palestinian territories (i.e., Israel). We will strike the Zionist enemy on its own ground.”

The new video opens with a quote from the Quran promising that those who die for Allah are not dead but live with Him: “And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision." (Quran, Sura 3:169). Later, describing the terrorist’s death as a sacrifice “for Palestine,” the narrator refers to his “pure body” and explains that “his dignified soul rose to its creator”:

“On Aug. 26, 2014, one hour before the ceasefire agreement [came into effect], as he was preparing to launch his final rocket barrage, the occupation warplanes fired several missiles at him. His pure body gathered up the earth, until his dignified soul rose to its creator. He sacrificed his soul for Palestine.”

The following is a longer excerpt of Fatah’s Facebook post glorifying the rocket launching terrorist and the video promoting violence produced by the Al- Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades:

Facebook status text: “A video showing several operations of direct sniper fire at occupation soldiers, rocket launches and mortar fire at concentrations of vehicles belonging to occupation soldiers, carried out by the heroic Martyr (Shahid) from the resolute [town of] Beit Hanoun, and member of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades (Fatah’s military wing) Martyr Muhammad Majdi Abu Shawish ‘Al-Za’anin’ in the town of Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza during the recent war against Gaza.”

Caption on video: “The Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades (Fatah’s military wing) - Palestine”, “Martyr Nidal Al-Amoudi Division”

Quote from the Quran on screen: “And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision." (Quran, Sura 3:169, translation Sahih International)

Narrator:The heroic Martyr Muhammad Majdi Abu Shawish ‘Al-Za’anin.’
The heroic Martyr was born in the resolute town of Beit Hanoun on May 21, 1990.He believed that armed resistance is the only way to liberate Palestine. He joined the Palestinian National Liberation Movement - Fatah - and enlisted to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades - Nidal Al-Amoudi Division. The heroic Martyr loved military activity, and was among the commanders of the rockets unit of the Brigades in Beit Hanoun [in Gaza].He inflicted pain on the occupation (i.e., Israeli cities near the Gaza Strip) time after time until the final battle - the battle of ‘Tariq Al-Asifa’ (The Path of the Storm, one of the names given to the 2014 Gaza war by Fatah’s Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades).”

[Images of Muhammad Majdi Abu Shawish ‘Al-Za’anin’ and another fighter killed in action, Ahmad Al-Za’anin, launching rockets at Israel. The following caption appears at the bottom of the screen: “The Martyr-Commander Muhammad Majdi Abu Shawish fires rockets at our occupied lands.”]

Narrator:[in the background, images of Israeli army vehicle under sniper fire and images of mortar fire]: “The heroic Martyr would shoot at the invading soldiers during their ground operation.
[Cries of ‘Allah is Greater’ accompany the shooting at the vehicle]
He was a soldier of the mortars - the mortars that terrorized the fragile, so-called ‘army’ of the occupation. On Aug. 26, 2014, one hour before the ceasefire agreement [came into effect], as he was preparing to launch his final rocket barrage, the occupation warplanes fired several missiles at him. His pure body gathered up the earth, until his dignified soul rose to its creator. He sacrificed his soul for Palestine. He was enraged when he saw the bodies of his countrymen being torn to shreds.
He carried a rifle, and bombarded the depths of the [Zionist] entity with rockets. Today, we bid farewell to the heroic Martyr Muhammad Majdi Abu Shawish ‘Al-Za’anin,’ deeply grieved by the loss of this great commander.
We in the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades - the Nidal Al-Amoudi Division
will remain committed to the promise and path of the Martyr and of all our heroic Martyrs since the outbreak of our Palestinian revolution, Allah willing.”

Song in praise of Muhammad Majdi Abu Shawish:
“...Fire RPGs, launch the KN rockets.
Shoot, Muhammad, do not fear, sow terror among the enemy’s soldiers.

Fire RPGs, launch the KN rockets.

Shoot, Muhammad, do not fear,
Sow terror among the enemy’s soldiers...

Launch your rockets,
Make the sons of Zion tremble and burn.
O Muhammad Ibn Al-Za’anin, man of Fatah, you will not be humiliated...”
