“have given them [Israelis] a taste of grief”

Itamar Marcus

A song with an upbeat tune broadcast twice on PA TV celebrates that Palestinians are “not afraid of the enemy [Israel],” are “a bone in the throat of the Zionists” who “have given them [Israelis] a taste of grief.” The song identifies the “Palestinians” as people from cities of the West Bank and Gaza, as well as the cities of Israel. As the names of cities are sung, different people, adults and children, respond “We are!” while raising their arm with a clenched fist.

While singing the words "in place of one [prisoner] here are ten" - the singer points to the young boy he is holding: He is the "one" future prisoner who will be replaced by ten others.

The following is an excerpt from the text of the song:

Singer: "We are not afraid of the enemy - a bone in the throat of the Zionists
Palestinians - We are! We are!
The people of Jerusalem - We are! We are!
The people of Jenin - We are! We are! ...
O Al-Aqsa [Mosque], your wounds will heal
Victory is certain, it's inevitable
A rock thrown with expertise...
The people of Jaffa - We are! We are!
The people of Haifa - We are! We are!
The people of Lod – We are! We are!
The people of Ramle
The people of Acre – We are! We are!
The people of Nazareth – We are! We are! ...
We swear in the name of the prisoners
In place of one [prisoner], here are ten
We have given them [the Israelis] a taste of grief
We have given them a taste of grief – a bone in the throat of the Zionists"
