On Sunday, a Palestinian terrorist drove his truck into a group of Israeli soldiers participating in an education study tour in Jerusalem, murdering 4 and wounding at least 15.

Attack is sanctioned by Islam
The official PA daily referred to it as “a car ramming operation” and wrote that the killer “died as a Shahid” (i.e., a Martyr who died for Allah). By calling the terrorist murderer a Shahid, the PA is telling its people that murdering the Israeli youths was sanctioned by Islam and seen as positive Islamic behavior.

PA TV went out of its way to focus on the religious value of the terror attack by using the term “Shahid” 7 times, mostly as a replacement for the terrorist’s name: “The Shahid executed the attack,” “The Shahid’s home,” “The Shahid’s sister,” “The Shahid’s parents home.” In contrast, the terrorist’s name was only mentioned twice, both times informing that he became a Shahid. [Official PA TV, Jan. 8, 2017]

PA will pay terrorist’s wife 2900 shekels ($760) monthly
According to its fundamental policy of supporting all Palestinian terror, the PA will reward the terrorist’s wife with a lifetime monthly allowance. According to PA governmental decision, the family of a Shahid receives a base payment of 1400 shekels per month. A wife of the Shahid receives an additional 400 shekels, for each child she receives 200 shekels, and for being a resident of Jerusalem an additional 300 shekels. In total the wife of this murderer will receive 2900 shekels ($760) per month for the rest of her life. In addition, within the next few months, she will receive a one-time grant of 6000 shekels ($1580).

Mahmoud Abbas’ silence
Mahmoud Abbas did not condemn the terror attack. Abbas’ silence is a strong message to Palestinians because it contrasts his fervent and vocal condemnations of the other recent car ramming terror attacks in Berlin and Nice.

Abbas after the Berlin car-ramming attack:

“[PA] President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas sent a telegram... in which he expressed condolences over the victims of the terrorist car ramming incident that took place in a Berlin market... The president emphasized... his condemnation of this despicable crime and his complete opposition to violence and all types of terror. He emphasized that it is necessary to consolidate all of the efforts to fight it (i.e., terror), and to take the necessary steps to prevent a continuation of the violence, aggression, and terror... His Honor emphasized his complete solidarity with Germany against this dark terror.”
[WAFA, official PA news agency, Dec. 21, 2016]

Abbas after the Nice car-ramming attack:

“[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas sent French President Francois Hollande a telegram of condolences over the victims of the terror event (i.e., truck ramming, 84 murdered) that took place two nights ago [July 14, 2016] in the city of Nice. The president informed [him] that the Palestinian people, the Palestinian leadership, and the Palestinian government stand by the side of the French people and the families of the victims, and identify with them. The president condemned this cowardly act in the strongest terms.”
[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 16, 2016]

By actively and vociferously condemning terror in all other parts of the world and refusing to condemn Palestinian terror against Israelis, Abbas is notifying his people that he doesn’t condemn or consider killing Israelis as terror.

Abbas made his opinion even clearer on Nov. 16, 2015. After 14 Israelis had been killed in a series of terror attacks, Abbas referred to the attacks as a “peaceful, popular, uprising.”

PLO’s PFLP and DFLP glorify the attacks
While Abbas sent messages to Palestinians through his silence, the Palestinian terror organizations that are members in the PLO openly expressed their support for the killings.

The PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) expressed happiness with the murders, “blessing” the “operation” and “congratulating” the entire Palestinian people. PFLP justified the attack as “part of the popular response to the crimes of the occupation,” and saw it as a direct continuation of last year’s terror wave:

“This operation proves again that the intifada of the young Palestinians continues, and is strengthening and improving from day to day...”
[Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Jan. 8, 2017]

Terrorist murderers who were killed during the recent terror wave were mentioned with honor by the PFLP:

“The front demanded that everyone, including the national institutions, bear their responsibility to strengthen the resolve of our people in Jerusalem and towards the relatives of the Martyrs (Shahids) of the popular response, which was paved by Martyrs Uday, Ghassan, and Alaa Abu Jamal (i.e., terrorist relatives who between them murdered 7 in two attacks), Baha Alyan (i.e., terrorist, murdered 3 with an accomplice), and the dozens of Martyrs who died during this intifada.”

The terror attack was presented by the DFLP (Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine) as the Palestinians’ “legal right” endorsed by the international community. A member of the political bureau of the DFLP, Talal Abu Tharifa, stated:

“The [car] ramming operation that took place today [Jan. 8, 2017] in occupied Jerusalem comes as part of the Palestinian resistance... is a legal right anchored in international law and all the resolutions of the international bodies.”
[Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Jan. 8, 2017]

He called for turning the “intifada of the young people” into a comprehensive popular intifada that will include all sectors of the society, which will allow it to clash on a daily basis with the despicable Israeli occupation.”

Abu Tharifa also said the attack as a “natural response to the policy of crimes and terror that the Israeli occupation is committing today against all of the members of the Palestinian people, its holy sites, and its land,” thus repeating the PA libel that Israel is harming the Muslim holy sites, documented by Palestinian Media Watch.

Fadi Al-Qanbar - 28-year-old Palestinian terrorist who on Jan. 8, 2017, murdered 4 Israeli soldiers - officer Yael Yekutiel, 20, and cadets Shir Hajaj, 22, Shira Tzur, 20, and Erez Orbach, 20 - and wounded over 15 other soldiers in a truck ramming attack at the Armon Hanatziv Promenade, in southeast Jerusalem. After ramming into the soldiers at high speed, Al-Qanbar ran over the wounded soldiers again repeatedly, until an armed civilian, who was also hit by the truck, managed to get up and shoot and kill the terrorist. Al-Qanbar supported ISIS online.

The following are longer excerpts of the reports on the Palestinian reactions to the truck ramming attack in which 4 Israelis were murdered:

Posted text: “[PA Parliament (Legislative Council) member] Hatem Abd Al-Qader, responsible for the Jerusalem portfolio in the Fatah Movement, held the occupation fully responsible for the Jerusalem operation (i.e., terror attack, 4 murdered, over 15 wounded) in a radio interview with The Voice of Palestine (i.e., the official PA radio station), and emphasized that all the [Israeli] actions of violence, killing, destruction, and settlement that are befalling the city are the main reasons for this operation. He also held the occupation responsible for the consequences of these operations, and for its unlimited war against [Arab] residents of Jerusalem.”

Headline: “The Popular Front blesses the Jerusalem operation”
“The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) congratulated the masses of our people over the Jerusalem operation (i.e., terror attack, 4 murdered, over 15 wounded), which came as part of the popular response to the crimes of the occupation and the unbridled settlers against our people and our holy sites in Jerusalem and in the occupied homeland.
The front emphasized that this operation proves again that the intifada of the young Palestinians (Palestinian euphemism for several months of Palestinian terror attacks against Israelis 2015 - 2016 -Ed.) continues, and is strengthening and improving from day to day, and that all of the attempts to thwart it or conspire against it will not succeed.
The front eulogized the one who carried out the operation, released prisoner Fadi Al-Qanbar from Jabel Mukaber in Jerusalem, and emphasized its adherence to the option of intifada and resistance as a path to unity and liberation.
The front demanded that everyone, including the national institutions, bear their responsibility to strengthen the resolve of our people in Jerusalem and towards the relatives of the Martyrs (Shahids) of the popular response (i.e., 2015-2016 Palestinian terror wave), which was paved by Martyrs Uday, Ghassan, and Alaa Abu Jamal (i.e., terrorist relatives who between them murdered 7 in two attacks), Baha Alyan (i.e., terrorist, murdered 3 with an accomplice), and the dozens of Martyrs who died during this intifada.
The front said that the expressions of joy in the Gaza Strip and other places in the homeland came as a spontaneous popular response that emphasized the unity of the blood and fate of our people in all places it is located in the homeland and diaspora.”

Palestinian terror wave (2015-2016) - Palestinian violence and terror attacks against Israelis, ‎including stabbings, shootings, throwing Molotov cocktails, and car rammings. It started in September 2015 and as of July 2016, 40 people were killed (36 Israelis, 1 Palestinian, 2 Americans, and 1 foreign worker from Eritrea) and over 500 wounded.

Jerusalem Har Nof synagogue terror attack - On Nov. 18, 2014, two Arab terrorists, Ghassan and Uday Abu Jamal from East Jerusalem, entered a synagogue in the Har Nof neighborhood of Jerusalem and attacked worshippers with guns, knives and axes, killing 5 worshippers and a police officer. 7 people were injured, 3 of them seriously. The terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire with Israeli Security Forces that arrived on the scene. On Oct. 24, 2015, the 6th victim, Haim Rothman, died of his wounds.

Alaa Abu Jamal - Palestinian terrorist who deliberately drove his car into people standing at a bus stop on Malchei Yisrael Street in Jerusalem on Oct. 13, 2015, hitting three people. Yeshayahu Krishevsky, 60, was killed and the other two were injured. Abu Jamal then got out of his car and started stabbing people, wounding others. The terrorist was killed by a security guard. He was a relative of the terrorists who murdered 5 worshippers and a policeman in the Har Nof synagogue in Jerusalem in November 2014.

Baha Alyan and Bilal Ghanem - 22 and 23-year-old Palestinian terrorists who on Oct. 13, 2015, boarded a bus in Jerusalem's Armon Hanatziv neighborhood with a gun and a knife and attacked passengers, killing Israelis Chaim Haviv (78) and Alon Govberg (51), and Richard Lakin (76), and wounding 3 Israelis. Alyan was shot and killed by an Israeli security guard at the scene and Ghanem, a Hamas terrorist who served time in Israeli prison in 2013-2014, was wounded. Ghanem is serving 3 life sentences and an additional 60 years for these murders.

Headline: “Abu Tharifa: The [car] ramming is a natural response to the policy lines of the occupation”
“Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) political bureau member Talal Abu Tharifa said that the [car] ramming operation (i.e., terror attack, 4 murdered, 15 wounded) that took place today [Jan. 8, 2017] in occupied Jerusalem comes as part of the Palestinian resistance, which is one of the hoists of the Palestinian national struggle. Likewise, he said that this is a legal right anchored in international law and all the resolutions of the international bodies.
Abu Tharifa added during an interview with the Al-Ghad satellite news channel that all of the types of Palestinian resistance operations are included as part of the natural response to the policy of crimes and terror that the Israeli occupation is committing today against all of the members of the Palestinian people, its holy sites, and its land. Likewise, he noted that the resistance forces cannot raise a white flag before the occupation in light of its unfair policy lines, and in the shadow of the silence of the international community.
Abu Tharifa clarified that the occupation must learn lessons from this operation, and that as long as it continues its policy lines and actions, the resistance will not be able to be silent. The response of the resistance comes out of understanding that the equation is not only one sided, but rather also includes an active Palestinian side.
Likewise, he emphasized that it is necessary to turn this intifada of the young people into a comprehensive popular intifada that will include all sectors of the society, which will allow it to clash on a daily basis with the despicable Israeli occupation.”

Headline: "4 of the occupation's soldiers were killed and an additional 15 were injured in a car ramming operation in occupied Jerusalem"
"The chorus of the Israeli right, which [Israeli] Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu leads, did not delay in making inciting statements against the PA and holding it responsible for the car ramming attack that took place yesterday [Jan. 8, 2017] in occupied Jerusalem, in which 4 of the occupation's soldiers were killed, and an additional 15 were injured, 3 of them seriously.
In an unscheduled meeting that was held against the background of the car ramming operation, the reduced [Israeli] Political-Security [A1] Cabinet decided to demolish the home in the Jabel Mukaber neighborhood in East Jerusalem of the family of the Martyr (Shahid) that carried out the operation, not to transfer his body to his family, to reject any request the family has submitted or will submit for unification with their relatives in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and to blockade Jabel Mukaber and arrest anyone who shows joy over the operation...
The truck driver, a resident of Jabel Mukaber, died as a Martyr, shot and killed by the occupation forces (sic., he was shot by a civilian), after he crashed into soldiers in the park in the settlement neighborhood of 'Armon Hanatziv,' which overlooks the Old City of Jerusalem."

Article on website of Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, posted at 10:19 pm on Jan. 8, 2017 following truck ramming attack that murdered 4 Israeli soldiers in Jerusalem that same day. The statements of the Fatah official quoted in the article should be viewed as his response to the attack.

Headline: “Fatah: Netanyahu is entrusting peace to the hands of a group of settlers who are occupying the land of the other by force”
“Head of the Information Committee of the Fatah Mobilization and Organization Commission Munir Al-Jaghoub said that occupation [Israeli] Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu is entrusting peace to the hands of a group of settlers who are occupying the land of the other by force.
The Fatah Movement said that the Israelis can put an end to this conflict that has been waged for years due to the situation of rage that the Palestinians are expressing in responses that lead them to one option, and that is the resistance to the occupation of their land, getting rid of the last occupation in the world, and achieving freedom and independence.
The movement emphasized that the Israelis can put an end to the conflict by forcing the Israeli extremism and terror government to withdraw from the occupied Palestinian territories, which in its arrogance and bloodiness has caused the Palestinian people to feel that the prospect is closing on the peaceful and political solutions.
Al-Jaghoub said that the occupation prime minister helped sell the illusion of security to the Israelis, and he does not know how to do anything other than sell illusions to the Israeli society. It is illogical that the Israeli society and its secure lives will be dependent on placating a group of settlers who live by force of weapon on occupied Palestinian land, and the decision is in the hands of all of the Israelis, and they must say with full courage: ‘The time has come to end the occupation of Palestine.’
He concluded by saying: ‘The bullying state will not exist forever, and no occupation is without a price. The freedom of the Palestinian people and the establishment of its independent state are the only magic solution for ending the existing conflict and bringing security and peace.’”

Headline: “The Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades [in Gaza]: The Jerusalem operation points to the adherence of the Palestinian people to the brigades’ path of revolution”
“The Martyr (Shahid) Nidal Al-Amoudi Division of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades [in Gaza] (not connected to Fatah in the West Bank and PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas -Ed.) of the Fatah Movement blessed the heroic [truck] ramming operation that was carried out by released prisoner [Fadi Al-Qanbar] today, Sunday [Jan. 8, 2017], in occupied Jerusalem, and brought about the deaths of 4 settlers (sic., Israeli soldiers) and the wounding of over 20 others.
The brigades said that this operation comes as part of the natural response to the ongoing crimes and violations that the occupation is committing against the Palestinian people, and noted that this is a brave resistance act that emphasizes that there is no option that surpasses the option of the rifle and the armed struggle.
They clarified that this heroic operation is a natural response to the occupation’s crimes, and that it points to the adherence of the Palestinian people to the brigades’ path of resistance...
The brigades called to continue and escalate the pace of the resistance to the occupation, in all its forms (i.e., including violence), throughout the occupied Palestinian territories. They also emphasized that they completely bless the heroic operation that was carried out by a free Palestinian resident of Jerusalem.
They added: ‘We call on our people in the West Bank and in Jerusalem to carry out more quality individual [operations] like this, and to aim the rifle’s muzzle at the occupation’s soldiers and the herds of its settlers.’ In addition, they emphasized that this does not require a decision or approval by any party.”
