Since a Palestinian terrorist murdered 3 Israelis last month, Fatah, which is headed by Mahmoud Abbas, has repeatedly emphasized his status as hero. Palestinian Media Watch reported that only a few hours after the murders, Fatah celebrated the morning scented with the fragrance of the Martyrs.

Subsequently, Fatah has issued and distributed a poster glorifying murderer Nimr Mahmoud Ahmed Al-Jamal who shot and murdered an Israeli border police officer and two security guards and wounded another Israeli at the entrance to Har Adar, northwest of Jerusalem, on Sept. 26, 2017.

In a PA TV News broadcast, the murderer's children and others were seen holding the Fatah issued poster which displays a large picture of terrorist murderer Nimr Al-Jamal, together with pictures Mahmoud Abbas and Yasser Arafat, with the text:

"With all honor and pride,
The Fatah Movement, Jerusalem district, Beit Surik branch, mourns the death of its heroic Martyr Nimr Mahmoud Ahmed Al-Jamal."
[Official PA TV News, Sept. 29, 2017]

The poster also featured the Fatah logo that includes a grenade, crossed rifles, and the PA map of "Palestine" that presents all of Israel as "Palestine" together with the PA areas.

In another show of admiration for the killer, Fatah's Bethlehem Branch posted a photo of him and a photo of a masked and armed member of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, Fatah's military wing with the following text on the image:

 "The Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades
The Al-Asifa (i.e., Fatah military unit) Army
welcomes the heroic Jerusalem operation
carried out by Martyr (Shahid) Nimr Mahmoud Al-Jamal
The revolution, intifada, and path go until victory

On the day of the murders at Har Adar, PA TV News reported on the murderer's family's demand that his body be released for burial "befitting of the sacrifice of the Martyrs and their heroism":

Official PA TV reporter: "The residents succeeded in reaching the home of the family of Martyr [Nimr Mahmoud Ahmed Al-Jamal] in order to console [the family] and stand alongside it in its time of tragedy. And they cried out in a demand for the occupation government to immediately release the Martyr's body, so they will be able to bury him according to the religious laws, and in a way befitting of the sacrifice of the Martyrs and their heroism in defending the land and the identity."
[Official PA TV News, Sept. 26, 2017]

The official PA daily called the terror attack "an operation" and the murderer "a Martyr." [Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Sept. 27, 2017]

Contrasting Abbas' Fatah and Abbas' official PA TV explicit honoring of the terrorist murderer, was a statement by Abbas' spokesman, that was presented by the international media as a condemnation of the terror attack by Abbas. In fact, the statement by the spokesman appeared as a parenthetical statement in an article that dealt in great detail with a different topic altogether, specifically, the Palestinian Authority need in having unity between Hamas and Fatah. It is critical to note that the spokesman did not use the term "terror attack" but called the murder of three Israelis "an operation" and the condemnation attributed to Abbas is primarily a general condemnation of all violence. These are the words of the spokesman:

"Regarding the Palestinian position regarding the operation that took place in Jerusalem, official Spokesman [Nabil Abu Rudeina] emphasized that the permanent position of President [Abbas] is to condemn all acts of violence, including this operation, and to condemn any violent operation, regardless of its source."
[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Sept. 29, 2017]

When Abbas wants to present an authentic condemnation of terror it is given prominence in the official PA daily, the attack is defined as a terror attack and is clearly and emphatically condemned. For example, following the terror attack in London in June this year in which dozens of people were killed or injured, Abbas made an authentic condemnation, which is completely different from this purported condemnation. First note, the headline of the story in the official PA daily condemned the attack and referred to it as "terror":

"The President conveys condolences over the victims, condemns the attack, and emphasizes: 'We oppose all forms of terror'"

The article likewise expressed authentic condemnation:

"[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas yesterday [June 4, 2017] condemned the terror attack that took place in London, the capital of Britain, in which dozens of innocent people were killed and wounded. The president said: 'We convey our heartfelt condolences to the Queen of Britain, the Government of Britain, and the British people, and also to the families of the victims of the terror event.'"
[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 5, 2017]

Clearly, his spokesman's statement that "the present position of President [Abbas] is condemnation of any act of violence, including this operation," is meaningless to Palestinians when they compare it to Fatah's open and prominent glorification of the killing of the three Israelis.
