Article in PA daily denies Ethiopian Jewry's connection to Israel

“[At the Al-Karameh border crossing between Jordan and the PA,] it was business as usual, when suddenly, I was standing before a Falash Mura [Ethiopian] soldier. After checking my passport, he asked me to wait on a chair next to a man whose features suggested he was of Far-Eastern origin. The Asian man, like the Falash Mura soldier, has nothing to do with the country – the former came as a visitor, while the latter can let me enter or turn me back.”

Note: The Falash Mura are descendants of Ethiopian Jews who converted to Christianity. In 2003, the Israeli government passed resolution 2948, granting Ethiopian descendants of Jewish mothers right to emigrate to Israel. Since then Israel has helped bring most of the Falash Mura to Israel.
