“Fatah Movement Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub demanded to strengthen the solidarity with our people, by the international community taking decisive steps regarding Israel.
Rajoub emphasized that the time has come for the same policy that succeeded in South Africa to be implemented, and the same peaceful and non-violent methods that the solidarity movements and states throughout the world use should be implemented.
He added that the time has also come to impose sanctions on those who violate the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
He said this during his participation in the 54th election conference of the ruling party [in South Africa], the African National Congress, on behalf of the PLO and Fatah, and as [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas’ representative… He asked: ‘Who is [US President Donald] Trump to determine the status of Jerusalem [by recognizing it as Israel’s capital]? One hundred years ago a British colonialist [Foreign Secretary] called Arthur James Balfour decided to give Palestine, which was not his land, to a movement that is not affiliated with our land (i.e., the Zionist movement.) We say to them - Jerusalem is not yours. Jerusalem is holy to the three monotheistic religions, and it is occupied land according to international law.’”
Jibril Rajoub also holds the following positions: Head of the PLO Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association, Chairman of the Palestine Olympic Committee, and Chairman of the Palestinian Scout Association (PSA).
US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel - On Dec. 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and instructed the State Department to begin preparations to transfer the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Trump added that the final borders of Jerusalem will be determined during negotiations.
The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.” In 1922, the League of Nations adopted this and made the British Mandate “responsible for putting into effect the declaration,” which led to the UN vote in 1947 and the establishment of the State of Israel.
