PLO official: Abbas has stated that “the allowances (to imprisoned Palestinian terrorists and their families) will not stop as long as the heart beats”

Headline: “Minister Karake participated in events in Lebanon as part of a campaign of solidarity with the prisoners”
“At the invitation of the PLO, Director of [PLO] Commission of Prisoners and Released Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Karake arrived in Lebanon from the homeland on Monday evening, Sept. 4, 2017, leading a delegation from the commission in order to hold a series of conferences and events as part of a campaign of solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners in the Zionist occupation’s prisons, which he is managing (i.e., the campaign)…
Karake mentioned the American and Zionist administrations’ attack now against the prisoners and their failed attempts to pressure the Palestinian leadership to stop the allowances (mukhassasat) of the prisoners and Martyrs (Shahids), and praised the position that [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas has taken against this extortion and his declaration that ‘the allowances will not stop as long as the heart beats.’ He explained that the main motive behind these acts of extortion by the occupation government is to present the Palestinian national struggle as a criminal matter.
Karake revealed that there are currently 6,000 prisoners in the occupation’s prisons, including prisoners who have served 35 years, such as Karim Younes (i.e., terrorist, murdered 1 with accomplice) and Nael Barghouti (i.e., terrorist, murdered 1 with accomplice), 19 who have served over a quarter century, and nine who have served over 20 years [and under 25 years] of imprisonment. He expressed his pride in these prisoners ‘who have sacrificed the years of their lives for the homeland’s freedom and dignity.’”

The article appears in the October 2017 edition of the magazine of Fatah’s Information and Culture Commission in Lebanon, Al-Quds, and was posted on the commission’s website Falestinona on Oct. 3, 2017.

Karim Younes - Israeli Arab serving a 40-year sentence for kidnapping and murdering Israeli soldier Avraham Bromberg in 1980 together with his cousin Maher Younes. Younes was originally sentenced to life in prison, but Israeli President Shimon Peres reduced his sentence in 2012. In May 2017 Younes was appointed by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to the Fatah Central Committee.

Nael and Fakhri Barghouti – Palestinian terrorists who murdered an Israeli army officer in January 1978, near Ramallah. Both were sentenced to life but were released in the Shalit prisoner exchange deal in 2011. Nael Barghouti was arrested again in 2014 for violating the terms of his release by offering Hamas to serve as its minister of prisoners' affairs, and is serving a life sentence plus an additional 18 years.
