PA official warns of Palestinian uprising ‎in response to proposed law allowing ‎both Jews and Muslims to pray on ‎Temple Mount

‎ “Fatah Central Committee member and ‎Head of Civil Affairs in the PA Hussein Al-‎Sheikh described the events in Jerusalem ‎as ‘a popular uprising, which may spread ‎beyond Jerusalem if Israel carries out its ‎plans regarding the city and the Al-Aqsa ‎Mosque.’ He said: ‘This is a natural ‎response to the expropriation of homes ‎and to the threats to divide the Al-Aqsa ‎Mosque. If Israel continues its present ‎policies, it may inflame the situation, ‎returning us to a [vicious] circle with ‎unpredictable results.”‎

Note: The “threats to divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque” ‎refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being ‎reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for ‎both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple ‎Mount. The law seeks to implement separate ‎prayer times for Muslims and Jews at the site.‎
