PLO and Fatah official in Lebanon: “we are moving in the direction of… a gradual intifada while using all of the means of struggle”

“The Al-Quds monthly met with Fatah Movement Revolutionary Council member and Secretary of the PLO and Fatah factions in Lebanon Fathi Abu Al-Ardat and conducted the following interview with him:

[Q:] ‘In your opinion how is it possible to deal with [US President Donald] Trump’s decision [declaring Jerusalem Israel’s capital] on the diplomatic, political, and popular level? And what is your evaluation of the Arab, Islamic, and international positions regarding this decision?’
[Fathi Abu Al-Ardat:] ‘…Currently we are moving in the direction of a combined effort of political and diplomatic activity together with activity on the ground, which is expressed in a gradual intifada while using all of the means of struggle against the occupation in order to make the occupation pay a price. This is particularly so because the UN guarantees the right of the peoples subjected to occupation to resistance in all of its forms, including that which is armed (refers to UN Resolution 3236; see note below –Ed.). At the same time, we must let our people in the Interior (i.e., Israel and the PA areas) consider what the appropriate form of confrontation is, as it is impossible to apply any specific attempt to another place and time, and the decision on this matter is in the hands of the Palestinian leadership and factions.’”
US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel - On Dec. 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and instructed the State Department to begin preparations to transfer the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Trump added that the final borders of Jerusalem will be determined during negotiations.
PA leaders and officials have legitimized Palestinian violence by quoting UN resolution 3236 which "recognizes the right of the Palestinian people to regain its rights by all means." The PA interprets "all means" as including violence against civilians, but has chosen to ignore the continuation of the resolution which states that the use of "all means" should be "in accordance with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations..." The UN Charter prohibits targeting civilians, even in war. Chapter 1, Article 1, opens by saying that "international disputes" should be resolved "by peaceful means."
