Mother of suicide bomber addresses students and administration at Palestine Ahliya University College: "Martyrs" died for "exalted goals"

     “The Progressive Student Action Front (i.e., the student organization of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP)) at Palestine Ahliya University College yesterday [March 28, 2017] honored the mothers of the Martyrs (Shahids) and prisoners for Mother’s Day, eternal Land Day, and the 39th anniversary of the death as a Martyr of Palestinian leader Wadi’ Haddad (i.e., PFLP terrorist).
[Greek Orthodox] Archbishop [of Sebastia] Atallah [Hanna], the wife of Secretary-General of the PFLP Abla Sa’adat, President of the University Dr. Awni Al-Khatib, Dean of Student Affairs Mahmoud Rahal, Financial and Administrative Director of the University Imad Al-Zir, and many mothers and families of Martyrs and prisoners from the Bethlehem, Jerusalem, and Hebron districts were present at the tribute rally held at the university’s outdoor amphitheater …
Dean of Student Affairs Mahmoud Rahal noted that Land Day is the anniversary of the Intifada of Palestinian rage that flared up among the original owners of the land, who rose up against the policy of expropriation and Judaization. He also noted the importance of noting the anniversaries of the leaders and Martyrs, and called for Land Day to constitute a stage of struggle in the confrontation against tyranny, settlement, and the situation of division (i.e., between Fatah and Hamas), and the beginning of the national awakening for liberation.
[Greek Orthodox] Archbishop Atallah [Hanna] praised the sacrifice of the Martyrs of Palestine and its prisoners who have sacrificed their lives to defend the freedom and honor of the Palestinian people. He called on the young people to escalate the national struggle and resistance against the occupation.
Representative of the [Progressive] Student Action Front at the college Ibrahim Arafah praised the sacrifice of the Martyrs and prisoners for freedom, honor, and the firm and full rights of the Palestinian people, and promised to the Martyrs of Palestine to be loyal to their sacrifice.
Mother of Martyr Abd Al-Hamid Abu Sorour (i.e., suicide bomber, injured 21) gave a speech on behalf of the Martyrs’ families, in which she said: ‘The Martyrs are lovers of the land. They died to defend the freedom and honor of the homeland and the rights of the Palestinian people, and for exalted goals. They bore the dreams and concerns of their people and sacrificed their lives for them in the struggle against this oppressive occupation that uses all forms of aggression.’”

Land Day – an annual commemoration of the general strike and demonstrations organized by Israeli Arab residents of the Galilee on March 30, 1976 to protest the Israeli government's decision to expropriate land in the Galilee for security and settlement purposes, which it later implemented. During the protests, demonstrators burnt tires, blocked roads, and threw rocks and firebombs. Six demonstrators were shot and killed by the Israeli army and police. Israeli Arabs and Palestinians consider Land Day a national day.

Wadi’ Haddad - a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) who was directly responsible for many of the PFLP's most prominent terror attacks, including a series of hijackings of Israeli EL AL planes in the 1960s and 70s. These included the hijacking of an EL AL plane flying from Rome to Tel Aviv on July 22, 1968 – the plane was forced to land in Algiers, where the 32 passengers were held as hostages for 39 days; the EL AL Flight 253 attack in Athens on December 26, 1968; the hijacking of 3 planes on September 6, 1970, which were forced to land, after which the passengers were released; and the hijacking of Air France Flight 139 on June 27,1976, whose passengers were freed in Israel’s Operation Entebbe.

Abd Al-Hamid Abu Sorour – 19-year-old Hamas terrorist who on April 18, 2016, carried out a suicide bombing attack on bus no. 12 in the Talpiot neighborhood in southeast Jerusalem. 21 people were injured in the attack. Abu Sorour died of his injuries a few days later in an Israeli hospital.
